We did them November it was spectacular, the cruise behind us (by a day or two) missed out due to sea conditions. It really is the luck of the draw.

We had lovely weather cruising mid February or March.

It really is pot luck but whatever you decide best wishes for a great holiday. 🖐️

Cruising Fiordland was one of the top highlights of our Auckland --> Sydney Cruise (via the Celebrity Solstice).  My blog review with photos, stories, etc. of such an exceptional day is here:

I still wish to add more info / photos, but until then - it will give you a general idea.

Spectacular Heather, thank you for posting the link, hope you had a great cruise.

We've done this area six times by cruise ship, it's always spectacular, but so lovely when the sun is shining.

  3. I've just received an email from friends on board QM2, their first time on Cunard.

They are on the Sydney to Singapore sector and I've been anxious to hear how it has been going considering some negative comments on CC.

I was delighted to read they are having a wonderful cruise so far. The food has been delicious, they are in the Britannia restaurant, their cabin very spacious with the most comfortable bed and they can't speak too highly about the attentive staff.

I hope it continues to be an enjoyable cruise for them, so far so good.:)

We too live in Mt. Waverley and have done so for the past 34 years. It is a great place to live, not too far from the city and yet so handy to lots of good shopping centres. Perhaps we have bumped into one another when at the Glen or the Village in Mt. Waverley. Small world!

    Hi Jennie,

We have actually corresponded before, a few years back, we live off Oxford St in one of the courts. We love the convenience of our suburb, hard to leave this area.

I shop mainly at The Glen, love the undercover parking.

I always take note of what you post, you are a wealth of information, do hope Peter is doing well after his health issues sometime back.

    Kind regards,

    Trish

  5. Lived in Mt Waverly for 4 years (Minerva Ct)! Went to Syndal and Monash. :D

It's such a great suburb, close to everything, hope you enjoyed your time here. You would notice a big change if you came back, a lot of redevelopment with many older homes being replaced with dual occupancy homes.

    Kind regards,

    Trish

  6. We have had 8000 three times on the Ocean Princess - it is our favourite cabin - as it is just so quiet, no noise at all from above and we have always had a queen or king size bed when in that cabin. Our friends were in 8002 in March/April and they also had the queen/king combination so unless 8004 is the one with the twin beds, they can all be moved to either twin or queen. We have 8008 in April and are hoping that eventually we can move a few cabins as I do know what the noise can be like from above in those mini suites. We have had 8040, 8053 and 8057 and they can be quite noisy early in the morning.

    Hi Jennie,

On your recommendation we are just home after the Land of the Midnight sun cruise and stayed in mini 8000.

It was a wonderful cruise, very good weather most of the time and we loved our cabin and we know you do.

Unfortunately we did have one night where we were woken at 2-45am by loud banging above our cabin. After hoping it would stop, which it didn't, my husband went up to deck 9 to see what was going on.

He couldn't believe that for some reason the card room was being emptied out, there's heavy furniture in that room, and the carpets were being shampooed. The fellow was making so much noise that the ceiling in our cabin was vibrating.

We called the desk and explained that this was totally unacceptable and after another thirty minutes the noise stopped, by this time it was nearly 3-45 am. We were wide awake by this stage and had trouble going back to sleep.

The next day we sent a letter to the Hotel Manager explaining the situation which was promptly replied with an apology and an assurance we would not have this problem again which we didn't. I think someone slipped up scheduling this at that hour, it could easily be done on a port day or at a more reasonable hour.

The Ocean Princess, and especially the cabins are so spacious, we look forward to another cruise on her.

  7. I am in my 70s but not yet 75. I'm not sure of the NZ situation but I have just taken out travel insurance in Australia with InsureandGo - not sure if it is available in NZ. Covermore who I have used in the past, would not cover my pre-existing at all because I was going to the USA. Another one wouldn't cover anyone over 65. I had to pay a premium of what amounted to an extra $1,000 for my pre-existing with InsureandGo but at least I got cover. Best of luck.:)

We had the same problem, going to the US is the problem. My husband had a couple of stents which was purely precautionary ten years ago. He is 72 and only needs to see his specialist for a annual check up. We never had any problems with insurance to the US until last year. Co's that use Great Lakes as an underwriter seem to be the most difficult to deal with.

Insure and Go were very good to deal with and suggested we take out an annual policy which is what we did so we're set to go for another cruise in June.

Hope you can get some cover.

  8. Do we have to pre-buy the transport ticket? It is a little while since we have been into Melbourne on a cruise ship, and at that time there was a desk in the terminal building where we could buy day passes. Is this system still in operation? I am thinking from the earlier posts that it doesn't operate and that we will need to organise our tickets before we leave home. Could someone please advise.

The cruise terminal will still be selling the passes, the details are on the Myki website in the earlier post.

    Have a great cruise.:)

  9. On a cruise ex Australia on a "formal" night if :

    * you wear an open neck shirt and smart sports jacket you will be the norm

    * you wear a regular suit and tie you will have others in the same garb

    * if you wear a "monkey suit" you will stick out like a "sore thumb", so leave the dinner suit at home .

    :)

I disagree, on Princess we have always found formal nights to be just that, formal. Can't comment on P & O they may be different but on Princess much more formal.

Men in the majority wear dinner suits, dark suits and ties and they look terrific. Very rarely have I seen men in open neck shirts.

My husband bought a new light weight wool dinner suit, it weighs less than any of his business suits so travels with us on our cruises every time.

Have a wonderful trip to our shores, hope the weather cooperates.
