  1. Be careful what you wish for, Celebrity sends out a lot of dumb e-mails.

I wasn't getting any for a long time. Went in and signed up again and then they started coming.

You can find the exciting deals here every week. Just bookmark the site and go there to check.

    Thanks for the link!

You may need to help her with this. In Gmail search for: in:spam ExcitingDeals@email.celebritycruises.com (that exact phrase). The archive should have an email stored. Display it, and then click the little "x" on the Spam label.

That will move the email to the inbox and remove it from the spam filter. You should get a notice like this:

    lyOyflrFlO8Nt_eiwriGnb8KlswpVDsghI2cBiG8wxIVz30cleWwrFEZAsYPMR-h9MeyZd_4Zg0tkmnX5fUmccVY4Npau-d3F7H2ksxZRLRa4Mk8aANQ26_PaP7_X8Dp2vDO5DHh69q0meSv7XR8mH5ZZOgu6sdm7lRHCGvfM6KSuoZznYWt6TZ9uqRCeTdXyqgJ8X4O5ydN0GHi-sHNv-m0Tz2m5g9D1CkVW05miYJXjHWx25bDTCule8lo2fFYGY_WQya8JC3IfHBo4WgSCxWB88NjkLMKwFfF3GSoMJ-4XL1m2f9rh_kfCR1T1clhTNmy-UwuKMC7Bjr7SvtvsPfcPIoeA52QXXuNWilNrX3NWJxGNr273AaTEWA3ftmHXzcJlECuNX6zL00g7p2YhIUnuqS9KMBRy-jEvBSWKeQo60VYVDeMSY7u4-Xmwdv-L0m2u--NSeGcsSLrzHjCd1GajHs1A6a5CsLHpVJDWjMC8bjl3KQf2zZAHl2oUqhAkg5Oc6HjiS3e-fKhGnWw9QlQ3c_phih5Dx51UQiZYevyyRnWLHWhw6O2ed3dO_e7xNZNCkTObryKyTgTBSqEeO6Zd6zR99kCeUMWNtSt4xfNoZaEJkGV=w617-h98-no

Then, search for in:spam News@email.celebritycruises.com and repeat the process.

Gmail automatically moves email to the spam mailbox based on a couple of things, including whether you actually read the email or not. So it's not necessarily that she added the messages to spam. Because the vast majority of email is considered "unsolicited commercial email" ... well over 80% ... the amount you see in your inbox is just the tip of the iceberg.

The other option is to create Google Contacts with those email addresses, but that's a bit harder.

Spam is all clear, and she actually has both those addresses in her Google Contacts already. Thank you for the help though. I guess I will just keep signing her up, hoping they will start coming one day. Unless you are purchasing a cruise, Celebrity is pretty worthless.

  2. After all of the 'fixes' has she tried re-subscribing outright to X's mail? If that is not successful, how about trying a different email address.

    bon voyage

Yes, I have done this many times by going to the website and signing her up again, however it does not seem to work. Usually, you would get the "Welcome to Celebrity Cruises" confirmation email once you signed up, yet she does not get that. That usually fixed it in the past when one of us stopped receiving emails but not this time.

  3. Hi everyone,

My mom and I have been receiving Celebrity promotional emails for a long time, however, she stopped receiving them for the past few months (I still get them). I have contacted Captains Club numerous times and they still can not figure out why. First they saw her email address was blocked from receiving marketing promotions and unblocked it. That did not do the trick. Then they saw that the "delivery status was invalid" for her email address and made it valid, but that did not fix it either.

To me this is not a big deal, but my mom likes to receive the "exciting deals" that are sent out every Tuesday. This is not a big deal to me, however, I am getting tired of forwarding all the Celebrity emails to her all the time now. Has anyone else had this problem before where you stopped receiving emails for no apparent reason and what did you do to finally fix it? FYI, we both have gmail accounts and she does not have any Celebrity email addresses blocked that would prevent her from receiving emails.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Thanks for the input everyone! I will keep checking the visitflam website and see if anything opens up. If not, there is no way I will cancel the cruise tour and chance it by trying to get tickets that day. We will be there at the end of the month, and I am sure it will be very crowded. I will likely never be in Flam again, so I will just pay the cruise price if nothing opens up prior to leaving.

  5. We used Norled a few days ago, and they were very good. The boat was modern and comfortable, with seating inside and standing on open decks outside for photos. They stopped to feed some mountain goats which was fun, and gave plenty of time for photos at Pulpit rock. The down side for us was that the weather was awful that day, with rain and low cloud, so it wasn't a very scenic trip.

Finally booked with Norled also. Looking forward to it! -- just praying for good weather. We will be there at the end of month.

  6. Decided to do the cruise tour of the troll path since it universally gets great reviews from people who have done it from various cruise lines, and since we are in docked in Alesund until 11, we will have plenty of time to walk up the stairs to Mt. Aksla after the tour.

  7. Yes, you can get off at the summit and take pictures. Just make sure that you dress in layers as it was windy and cold when we visited. It was 21 degrees at the base and only 6 degrees at the summit.

The bus usually stops at the Flydal Viewpoint on the way down, but we were the first bus away and we stopped on the way up.

It's interesting when there are lots of buses as the road is quite narrow in places and with many, many sharp turns. Sometimes your bus will have to stop and reverse in order for two buses to pass.

Thanks for the heads up. We are definitely prepared for anything and everything for this trip. Are those temperatures in fahrenheit or celsius? Also, when were you there? We will be there in early August so I would think the temperatures will be significantly warmer (at least at the base).

We did 2 excursions with HAL. The best by far was Mt Dalsnibba & the Eagle Road. Excellent guide a great sights, wonderful pace. The driving aournd hair pin turns was half of the excursion. The views were just amazing.

The most shameful was the Voringsoffsen Waterfall and Eidfjord cruise, This 2 hour excursion was $110. It was for a 35 minute bus ride up to the Vorringsoffsen Waterfall for a 15 minute stop (along with 7 other HAL bus loads), which made the sight way over crowded. Then back on the bus for a 35 minute drive back down through the town and on to a property of a power plant to board a ferry boat(not a sightseeing boat). The ferry boat ride was adverstized at 1 hour, but it was 30 minutes at bus. We were together with 4 other bus loads and if you wanted to see anything you needed to be upon the open deck in the cold wind. Of course we later learned that what we were being shown on the ferry we were about to see in 3 hour from the comfort of the Koningsdam as it sailed the FJord from Eidjford.

Thanks for the info! The problem with Eidjford port is either do an excursion or opt for basically nothing since there is not much to see at the port itself. Might do the "waterfalls and waffle" excursion instead (not that will be much better). Did you do the the Flam Railway on your trip? I am pretty ticked because I am going to have to likely purchase this through HA at their outrageous price since the cruise booked all the available times (visitflam.com is all booked for the times that we will be there that day). Also, do you know of anyone who did the Troll Path excursion at Alesund and what they thought of it? This excursion may be too hard to pass up, albeit super expensive.

  8. It will be good if they make changes to the e mbarkatiin process. It was one of the things that I provided feedback when we got on the ship. It was speedy, but very confusing.

We did two HAL excursions: Eidfjord Cruise & Voringsfossen Waterfall and the Mt Dalsnibba & the Eagle Road in Geiranger. If you have a fear of heights, the Mt. Dalsnibba will test your fear. It was 21 degrees at sea level and 6 degrees when we reached the top of the mountain.

We are thinking about doing those exact excursions as well with HAL. How did you like both of them? Also, as far as Mt. Dalsnibba, are you able to get off the bus at the summit to take pictures? I read on the excursion page that the bus stops at the Flydal Viewpoint for pictures, but I am hoping (or thinking) they let off people once you arrive at the summit as well?

  9. Or I am thinking about doing the Trollstigen excursion through the boat albeit very expensive ($229 PP). This may be to good to pass up. Has anyone done this? It is the Romsdal & the Troll Path excursion with HA:

Take a short sightseeing tour of Ålesund city, passing the town of Spjelkavik en route to Sjøholt village.

From Sjøholt, you'll follow the shoreline of Storfjord, enjoying beautiful scenes from the road. You are now in an area known for both salmon fishing and furniture making. The furniture crafted here is exported all over the world. In Stordal alone there are several furniture factories.

Pass the old, octagonal Stordal Church (1789) and through Liabygd and Valldal, renowned for growing sweet strawberries. You will follow the valley towards Trollstigen (the Troll Path), passing the impressive Gudbrandsjuvet Gorge. On top of the mountain you can still see signs of the old road built in 1028 by Viking King Olav.

In the center of the Trolltindene mountain range you will stop for a typical Norwegian buffet lunch of hot and cold dishes, desserts and coffee. A bottle of mineral water or light beer is included per person.

From the highest point on the road, at 2,800 feet above sea level, you will drive the famous Troll Path with its 11 exciting hairpin bends leading down to Isterdalen Valley. Stop to visit the famous Troll Wall -- well known to mountaineers all over the planet. This wall has the highest overhang in Europe and is visited by world-famous climbers every summer.

  10. Hi everyone,

Does anyone know once we disembark the ship at Alesund what street we walk to where we would begin to walk the steps to see the Fjellstua viewpoint at Mt Aklsa?

Also, once were done doing that, does anyone have any recommendations what to do. We are thinking about just walking around the city. Our ship is there from 8 AM until 11 PM. We leave the port unusually late compared to the other fjord ports, especially when you consider there is a not a ton to do. Does anyone know why that might be?

    Thanks in advance

  11. Hi everyone,

It appears that all available times to buy tickets are sold out at visitflam.com for the day our cruise is there. My question: is there any other sites where you go can possibly buy Flam-Myrdal round trip tickets, or am I stuck having to buy it through the cruise at their outrageous price?

    Thanks in advance.

  12. Thank you for all the responses everyone! Based on what everyone said, people dress similar to Celebrity on HA cruises for formal or "gala nights." Basically sounds like people wear anything from tuxes to suits to CC casual, or basically, whatever you are most comfortable with. As far as gala nights, I found out there are 4. I know many of you said either 3 or 4, so I calledl HA to clarify.

  13. Are there other companies that do this other than Rodne? Unfortunately, the day we are in port, 10 AM and 12 PM cruises are sold out. The 2 PM is only time available and that would be too late since our boat leaves at 5. Two ships (including ours) are in port that day so clearly one or both of them are using them as the tour operator. Ideally, we would like to go independent to save money, but if there are no other options, we will just purchase through ship.

    Thanks in advance.

  14. LOWS: No surprise, as it has been mentioned before, the entertainment on board is disappointing. The shows in the World Stage did not really make use of the stage. One night was a juggler, another a singer, another night a BBC movie, another a dance group, and another a variety show featuring the juggler and singer.

The BB Kings were disappointing. Most nights the back ground music over powered the voices and the song choices didn't excite.

Thank you for your review. We will be sailing this boat next month as well in Norway. Quick question: is the World Stage the main theater for the ship? The reason I am asking is because I looked at Holland's website and it says there is a "Main Stage Show Lounge". Are these theaters the same thing or different? Sorry, I am just a bit confused.

  15. Hi everyone,

We will be taking are first Holland America cruise this summer on the Koningsdam. We typically cruise Celebrity, but we have heard great reviews of this boat and they offer a Norwegian Fjords itinerary that Celebrity does not. On Celebrity, most men usually wear suits or even tuxes on formal nights. I was just wondering if men typically wear suits on formal nights or is it more casual on HA? My family may be in the minority, but we really enjoy dressing up on formal nights. We just want to make sure we are not the only ones!

Also, does anyone know how to find out how many formal nights are on your cruise? We are on a 14 night cruise.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  16. Hi everyone,

We will be docking in Dover and was wondering if anyone has walked from the cruise port to the White Cliffs of Dover. Google maps says it is a little over 1.5 miles to the White Cliffs of Dover Visitor Center. We are in great shape and don't mind walking (even steep parts).

Also, has anyone done the White Cliffs Boat Tour that leaves from Prince of Wales Pier? If so, how did you like it?

We are trying to decide if the viewing would be better from atop the cliffs or from the sea. I do not think we will be there long enough to be able to do both.

    Thanks in advance.

  17. The Classic Beverage Package still covers martinis in a regular sized martini glass. The larger martinis are at the Martini Bar and will cost full price. Some ships will also serve the regular sized martini at the Martini Bar as well.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Beth and kenevenpar. That sure looks like a martini to me pictured next to the classic package. I recall someone saying in the past they are "mini martinis". Just wanted to make sure.

    classic_package.jpg

  18. Hi everyone,

For those of you who have recently cruised that have purchased the classic package, did it cover martinis? On Celebrity's website, there is a picture of a martini next to the classic package, but it says the classic package only covers cocktails up to $8. I recall on the last Celebrity cruise I was on, Martinis were more than $8 -- at least most of them. If anyone can clarify, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance.

  19. Hi everyone,

For those who have done the British Isles cruise, has anyone does this 4 hour tour? Ideally, I would like to do a private tour but based on our arrival and departure (1 - 8 PM), along with docking at Invergordon, make it very difficult to do a private tour. I have no idea why Celebrity arrives there so late (most British Isle cruises arrive way earlier), but it is what it is. At $50 pp, the price is not bad for a cruise tour. For anyone who has done this excursion, your review would be much appreciated.

Also, if a private tour is still possible considering are limited time docked at Invergordon, is there any company that you have used that you would recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

  20. Hi everyone,

We will be tendered at Dun Laghaire and want to know the best way to get to Dublin.

For those of you who took the train, what is the train station called and where is it located in proximity to Dun Laoghaire port, what is the best station to get off in Dublin (city center) , and how much is a round trip ticket?

For those who took a taxi, where do you catch it, and how much is the cost to get to the Dublin city center?

For those who have taken Celebrity, do they offer a shuttle?

    Thanks in advance.

  21. Hi everyone,

We are thinking about doing a British Isles cruise with Celebrity this July. For those who have taken the cruise around July, what are the sea conditions like? Some in my family can get sea sick if the waters get pretty rough. Please share your experiences and overall thoughts on the British Isles cruise.

    Thanks in advance.
