  1. I think UK pax get a raw deal all round from Royal (and possibly/probably others)

Yesterday I read a post about their UK website showing all available cabins and as I have my eye on an upgrade I logged on to check it out. What I found was that the price of the cabin I booked last weekend via my US TA was priced at almost £1800 more on the UK site than the US site. I use a US TA due to flexibility mainly and their ability to be responsive to customer requests, and whilst I knew I had a good deal I was stunned at the difference.

I sailed Celebrity last year maybe it was the same with them I don't know, but I do know that £1800 is a huge differential.

  2. It depends on budget and whether you want to be close to the terminal.

If you want to be close; Hotel Olympia, Hotel Santa Chiara, Hotel Abbazia, for budget Al Malcanton.

For really nice hotels but further away from the terminal so you will require transport to get there: Hotel American Dinesen, Hotel Columbina, Danielli, in fact loads of them if transfer to the port by water taxi is not an issue.

  3. Everyone in the cabin can have a different beverage package or none at all.

The mug can be refilled anywhere or you can get a soda in a glass at a bar. You have to use the mug at the freestyle machines. My kids rarely used the mugs, they would just go to a bar for the soda. The freestyle machines were often broken on our resent Allure trip. SUPER ANNOYING!!!!

With the royal replenish you can get freshly squeezed oj, which was $4.50. You can get non alcoholic frozen drinks which include strawberry daiquiri, pina colada, they have a mixed berry flavor, frozen lemonade, lava flow, tropical fruit, chocolate, vanilla, Oreo cookie (tastes just like a milk shake).

Small bottles of San pelligrino and regular bottled water. Not the Evian water that's in the rooms though.

Has that changed recently? I thought that Royal insisted that if one person had a package everyone had to have one. I am really pleased if that is now the case as I wouldn't want the top package but my husband probably would.

  4. Not budget, but simply the nicest, most welcoming hotel in the capital, with the most obliging staff. The Montague on the Gardens is close to the British Museum and walkable to Covent Garden, Shaftesbury Avenue and is served by Russell Square tube station. We always stay here, we have tried others but this is the one we always return to.

  5. We have gone on the train from the port into Rome, and from the dock the town is right there at the dock gates. The berth location did need coaches to get to the dock gate though.

From memory it seemed a quiet place with a few market stalls and cafes and bars. I think we may well take this option too this time, as like you we have done Rome previously and DH has worked there.

The other option is car hire and explore a little further afield that way. We will also consider this option.

  6. OP are you really the age you contend or are you really a parent who has rules for their children which are more lax than other parents and are trying to prove a point?

Ships are a microcosm of society. I would not be happy with my young teen being out alone in the area we live in after a set time, so why would that differ on a ship?

I agree with the poster who said that when you pay the piper you call the tune.

  7. We are wine and beer drinkers mainly, so if we purchased the classic package is it just the Martinis and anything over $8 that would be not included?

What about children could we use our package to get coke and juices for our son or is there a separate package?

What is the cost per day of the classic alcohol package as opposed to the premium package.

    Many thanks

Has anyone done the Pool of Life Tours Beatles tour. At £98, it seems very expensive. But this guy Tim seems to get amazing reviews for it on Trip Advisor. I wonder if, for the casual Beatles fan, the Beatles Story Museum would suffice.

    I think unless you are an ardent fan, it seems very expensive and that the museum would suffice, or perhaps this would be a good add on;

    Much cheaper too;)

This is a hotel quite central to the station. Liverpool is quite a compact centre so everything is reasonably close.

2 minute walk to Concert Square & St. Peter's Square

2 minute walk to Liverpool One

    2 minute walk to F.A.C.T.

5 minute walk to the Liverpool One bus terminal

    5 minute walk to Chinatown

10 minute walk to ACC Liverpool, home of the Echo Arena & BT Convention Centre

10 minute walk to The Albert Dock and the River Mersey waterfront

10 minute walk to the Beatles Story Museum and The Tate Gallery

10 minute walk to Liverpool Lime Street Mainline Station

10 minute walk to Matthew Street and the Cavern Club

10 minute walk to the Anglican Cathedral

12 minute walk to the Commercial District

15 minute walk to the main Mersey ferry terminal

Short taxi ride to Anfield (Liverpool FC) and Goodison Park (Everton FC) football grounds (please allow time for busy traffic on match days)

To explore Merseyside’s many sporting and tourist attractions, there’s quick and easy access to public transport:

Short taxi ride or 5/10 minute walk to Liverpool Lime Street, the city’s main railway station

Merseyrail service from Liverpool Central Metro station, two minutes walk from the hotel, takes less than 15 minutes to Liverpool South Parkway station, with the free shuttle bus service taking only 10 minutes to the airport

Regular buses to and from Liverpool John Lennon Airport - 86A, 80A, 82A, 82B, Arriva AirLink 500 from the main Liverpool One Bus Terminal, a 5 minute walk from the hotel

Hope this helps, we stayed here regularly whilst our son was at university in the city.

  10. Thankyou, I think we will leave the Tux at home and he will opt for a lightweight dark suit. I will take black trousers and a variety of evening tops and a couple of dresses. From your responses I think those items should see us through.:D

  11. We are sailing out of Venice in March and flying in by RYANAIR:( so luggage allowance is limited. On RCI my husband wears a tux, but would he need one on MSC? how many gala nights are there in a 7 day cruise and when are they likely to be? My son will be 12, will a smart suit be sufficient or should he pack a tux too?

Should we know in advance when our sitting is? from memory I *think* we booked late sitting, but there seems no mention of it on our cruise docs.

Will there be a table tennis table/tournaments?:D

  12. They're not all men. They're a couple with two lively teenagers as I recall. The places you mention are all really nice, but probably more suited to a nice dinner than a quick family lunch. Probably best to wait until Margalit tells us what sort of food they want and then we can work something out for them.:)

Yes, you are probably right, and as you have met them you will have more idea of their tastes than I. Maybe a quick bite at the Phil would suit?

  13. I also have lots of US friends who would love that sort of atmosphere, but my guess is that the boys will want something quick and easy. Anyway, I'd do the Panoramic any day before the Raquet Club, if only for the fantastic view.:)

ooH yes, that too, not for me though....I am afraid of heights, and none too keen on lifts:o Pan Am is quite good on occasion too. As are Monro,

London Carriageworks, and Simply Heathcotes. I also didn't appreciate they are are all men;)

  14. Hiya! I'd almost forgotten you were coming to Liverpool. It seems like an age since we were on Brilliance. My LA hat is still going strong and gets an occasional run-out on the golf course.

The Panama Canal cruise was spectacular, thanks, although I got sick in San Diego and didn't quite get better until we got home. Met some great people on the cruise.

As for lunch, I've met you and your family but I'm not sure what your taste is. Tell me what you'd like and I (or one of the other 'locals' who visit this thread) will sort you out nicely.

No offence, Poet, but I used to be a member of the Raquet Club in the 1980's and unless it is completely different it wouldn't be a great choice for these Californian free spirits!!!:):):)

Why?.....we lunch there quite often, more recently than the 1980's:p and it is the epitome of "britishness" imo, and the Americans I have met..(quite a few) would love it. Not free spiritish, I accept, but still nice:D so I bow to your superior judgment on these particular cruisers:)
