  1. flowers44, Thank you for the tips! I think it is a good idea to be close to the dockyard on the second day and doing as much exploring on the first day since we have no set time we have to be back on the ship.

Just a thought; I would bet that the ship is offering a beach excursion on the departure day. It probably goes directly to Horseshoe Bay, but you can still explore some of the small beaches walking toward Warwick too (to the left). You would of course need to get back to Horseshoe Bay for the excursion pick up.

This is the onetime I think it's worth considering using the ships excursions, as they usually guarantee you will get back to the ship (the ship will wait for their excursions if needed). The extra cost gives you the peace of mind to enjoy without worrying about getting back to the ship.

  2. First this is NOT a recommendation as I don't have first hand experience. That said I've been looking for things to do too, and am considering Great Bay; I found one of the hotels/bars on the boardwalk have a FB page and on there they should a board they have with the following offer: 2 chairs, 1 umbrella, 4 drinks and use of facilities (Wifi, Shower & Bathroom) for $25. I think it the bar that is part of Holland House Beach Hotel.

  3. Thanks for your review! We will be on this cruise in a few weeks and wondered if they still have the "Beyond the Podium" series of lectures or something similar. Something interesting to do on sea days. Thanks!

For what it's worth; I was looking at recent dailies (from the 11/28 EC itinerary) and saw three Beyond the Podium offerings; one on each of the three sea days.

  4. For what it's worth, we've had two very enjoyable NCL cruises, both on ships much smaller than the Breakaway (the Dawn and Star). In fact it was the largeness of the Breakaway that resulted in us being booked on our first Celebrity cruise, also to Bermuda, on the Summit. The truth is our experience on both NCL trips was so good, we are hoping that Celebrity will be at least similar; based on this thread, I'm feeling good about the prospects.

  5. This is from the Celebrity site regarding suites:

•One complimentary dinner for all guests in suite (cruise of 6 or 7 nights) and two complimentary dinners for all guests in suite (cruise of 8 nights or more) in a specialty restaurant

So, 8 or more nights gets you an extra specialty dinner.

  6. ... Can or does anyone really able to taste the difference or have any ill effects from drinking non premium bottled water?

@miched, I think tasting a difference comes more into play when you're talking about mineral or sparkling water, which I would think are the ones considered Premium ... so like a Pellegrino or a Fiji, versus just a purified drinking water.

  7. We were first timers to Bermuda and just returned. We highly recommend Byways Tours by Heidi Cowen. www.bywaysbermuda.com This was advertised as "uncommon & unusual tours" and it included all of the tourist highlights plus some unusual stop and insights from a Bermuda native who grew up living in Gibbs Hill Lighthouse as her grandfather was the keeper when that was a 24/7 position of great responsibility. Heidi was joined by her sweet dog, Buddy, who is blind. Save your pity as Buddy does very well thanks to Heidi. As a dog lover missing my own, Buddy graciously met my need for a "dog fix". We were impresses with our 6 hr tour which covered the entire island, but even more so when we compared notes with our tablemates that evening. When we thought about all of our stops, included admissions, included lunch and even an afternoon ice cream stop, we were very thankful we had booked with Heidi! We are snorkelers and she showed us Tobacco Bay, Horseshoe Bay, and Warwick Long Bay where we checked out Jobson's cove. Knowing we wanted to snorkel on our next two days, she also checked on weather forecast which, unfortunately wasn't promising. Rain was coming, but Heidi then checked with the island's true forecasters, the silk spiders, and pulled us over for a photo op with these amazing creatures. (they come down low in the trees when a storm is coming). My husband is a history buff and was pleased that he knew the answers to questions asked by our table mates that evening (thanks to Heidi's pointing out places and answering his questions on tour!) While Heidi is proud of Bermuda, she does not gloss over the high cost of living there and the struggles of hurricanes and drought. But she wouldn't live anywhere else and that enthusiasm and love shines through! While first timers to Bermuda, we have been on many cruises and tours and have to put Heidi's tour up there as a don't miss opportunity!

I can't speak to Heidi's tour, but I did find that the provided link is incorrect, so I thought I would provide the correct one:

  8. We are going July 6. You? We have 3 young kids of our own but are leaving them behind for a much needed adult-only vacation. Since there are going to be so many kids on board, I hope I don't miss mine too much!

We are sailing July 6th too, along with 2 other couples, gives us something to look forward to during these cold dreary days in NJ :D

Hope you register for the "Meet and Mingle", we need at least 25, then Celebrity will organize it for those who are signed up.

Here's the link to Celebrity's registration page; you'll need your reservation number:

There are lots of complaints about it not working, but it worked for me about a week ago.
