  1. I understand the brain overload!!!! :D

Actually, I think one was wrecked due to the reefs, the other was a fire in the engine room. The ship was full of lumber and the captain dumped all the lumber so as not to lose it in the fire. Lots of folks in Roatan got the lumber that washed ashore and did some building with it. :)

THANKS!!! He must have only told the story about the shipwreck due to the reefs, b/c the fire story I would have remembered (my brain still functions somewhat anyway :D )!!!!!!!!

  2. Hi nasvhillecruise, I booked with Victor Bodden in Oct. I was very specific in what I wanted to do and that I wanted an air-conditioned van. The Van was booked for 4 people and another couple joined us at the last min. Unfortunately my husband and I got stuck in the back of the bus where the air- conditioning had a very hard time reaching and it was very, very hot and uncomfortable. My husband and I wanted to visit a school and an orphanage while our friends visited the Iguana farm. Both of us had no interest in the Iguana's.Our friends had no interest in either the school or the orphanage. Our guide drove us all to the farm and we had no choice but to wait in the heat while our friends spent some time touring the farm and then there wasn't enough time for us to visit both the school and orphanage so we ended up just dropping some things off at the orphanage .I was not happy with this tour. I unfortunately can't remember the guide's name but he ignored the requests on the sheet Victor gave him and he was not paying any attention to what I was trying to tell him. Victors home isn't worth visiting and I can't stress that enough .There is nothing there but a monkey and an ant-eater that is tied up and we were told not to touch as he bites .We were told to pay $2. each to a women sitting on the porch . She was very unfriendly and never spoke to any of us. I did a lot of research before I left home and I had read a lot of good reviews about Victors tours and his home . The island itself is beautiful but I have to say I was very disappointed in the tour and would not recommend it to anyone. B.L.T. :(

I hate to hear you didn't enjoy. We REALLY loved going to Victor's house & playing with the monkeys. That was a highlight for my son. The young monkeys must not have been around when you were there. Victor's pre-teen daughter was there to greet us & was super friendly. I told her I was from Nashville & she asked about the recent tornadoes, so she was definitely well-versed in English & US current events. Victor was sick but still took time to come out & see us. I guess we were lucky in that it was only the 3 of us & we wanted to zipline, see the shipwrecks, see sunset at the beach, & go to Victor's. It was HOT that day, but the van we were in was air conditioned. I'm sure it was miserable if yours wasn't.

  3. They did tell the story behind the shipwrecks. I'm on brain overload from the cruise, but I'm thinking they were both around 50 years old. Weather, misguided captains, & reefs did them in. I was expecting to see older shipwrecks, but they were still unique. I haven't made it home yet (flew in this a.m. & came straight to work), but I'll post pics of the shipwrecks in the next few days.

  4. We did the tour with Victor Bodden tours, with Caesar being our guide. He was GREAT. We ziplined with our 5 year old, who loved it. He's fearless & went by himself on the very 1st zip. He loved the bridges & got across them MUCH quicker than we did. Alex was our guide on the zipline at Jungle Canopy (think that's the name) & he was GREAT, both with us & our son. He offered to use our video camera to tape us zipping across. We also went to two of the shipwrecks & to Victor's to see the monkey. Victor was ill, but still took time to come out and talk to us. It was one of my favorite ports & would have been my absolute favorite if we weren't on such a tight schedule on the NCL Spirit.

  5. Rahn,

Thanks for the great review & pics. I LOVE the monkey pictures. I think that's one of the things I'm looking most forward to on the cruise. Well, that & the ziplining. I know you can't please everyone, but from what I've read, Victor has a 90% or greater success rate. Did they let you pet/hold the anteater? I know I read one thread about a guy holding the anteater & getting nibbled on a little, but he didn't seem to mind too much.

  6. I have booked Victor for our cruise in March. We're planning on doing the ziplines, touring the area, and going to his house to see the animals. Though most posts on this board RAVE about Victor and his guides, I have read one post saying they did not like the tour guide they had.

If you used Victor, did you love the guide? If so, who did you have? & finally, does anyone know if you can ask for a particular person?
