  1. The Queen Elizabeth has a 4 day land tour for $3600 pp that has an overnight in Agra to view the Taj. The cruise segment is only 10 days so the cabin was cheaper than Princess and about $700 more than Celebrity Century. All were next March/April 2015.

  2. Hi, we are thinking of taking Celebrity Century March 2015 Dubai to Singapore with Mumbai, Goa,Mangalor and Kochin. Did anyone find a reliable tour to the Taj Mahal from any of those ports that is more reasonably priced than the ships tours mentioned in this thread? I am not sure we will even book the tour if we can't figure out how to visit the Taj. All suggestions are appreciated. Even other cruises under 20 days.

    Cheers! Ilene

The celebrity century TajMahal excursion is $1995pp for 3 days/2nights. It's a little hectic to get to the taj in the AM via train from Delhi. Then head back to Delhi in the PM via motor couch. But it is a cheaper way to see the Taj and get it checked off you bucket list.

  3. The group that took the tour on the QE world cruise this year all loved it and said it was an amazing experience. Most long tours are tiring even the ones that are 11 hour days, but we always do them as we look it as a once in a life time experience. I went to the Taj Mahal years ago and it is wonderful. However this year on We we visited Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Mosque and that was absolutely magnificent! A new wonder of the modern world.

Our day in Mumbai this year was spent with a local guide and we had an awesome tour to remember. I arranged myself and 10 cruise members joined in and it was a great day out.

You are in for a treat so enjoy it.

    Thank you Maggie!

  4. I did it while on a world cruise with QM2 in 2011 and I strongly recommend it. Of course it was tiring, which is what one would expect when travelling in India, but it was definitely an enrichment and I would do it again! If I began to tell you more, I wouldn't stop anymore ...

    Thanks for the input!

  5. I would love to sail on the QM2 again (first time was with the girlfriends) but DH will not go for it. We did a short cruise on the Queen Victoria and he had to wear a jacket to dinner every night and hated it.

Being from Hawaii, the only time I ever get to wear a dinner tuxedo is on a cruise (except for my Senior Prom many decades ago) so it's a different and nice deviation from aloha shirts...for me.

  6. We are travelling with our American cousins on the QE in November. They have an option of a direct flight back to Dallas from Rome at 11.30am on the final day. Do you think that is cutting it too fine? They should be able to get off at 7.30am and if we book them a taxi will be at the airport by 9am, so that gives them time for check in.

    Anyone done this before?

    Thanks

Rome airport check-in is pretty hairy, expecially when travelling to the US. I'd give myself much more time. Take a later flight or stay a day or two in Rome.

  7. We are looking for hotel recommendations in Bangkok, Singapore and Bali/Benoa for our upcoming Crystal Symphony voyage.

We stayed at the Bangkok Shangri-La for 3 days after our cruise. It was great being on the River, good location to catch a water taxi and short 5 minute walk to the Rail system to get to other interesting places in the city. The staff was just superb and the rooms were first class.

  8. Hi there,(to the OP)

Just a brief heads up on Cunards Queen Elizabeth as we did our first cruise with them this July around the eastern med.

Food is good and plentiful, IN Lido and elsewhere, in MDR if you want extra just ask.

Cabins are beautiful as is the rest of the ship. Very clean and classy.

Public areas are very nice too but especially the Commodore Club up on deck 10 at the front overlooking the bows, so classy and elegant.

Drink prices are ok but they absolutely rob you with the price of their wines, however they are really easy going about bringing wine on board, both initially and at each port.

Excursions really expensive but DIY and enjoy the ride.

Clientele are slightly older but fun and all in all a great experience. If you are unhappy with anything, ask and they will help.

I am sure you will love it.

Have a hoot and live life.:D:D:D

Thanks. I appreciate the quick reply.

  9. In July all black jack was deal from a machine, which we personally do not care for.

I used to play on the machines too. It seemed to have certain patterns that repeat but you have to play for hours to notice them.

  10. We were on the Golden Princess for this past Christmas and New Years. They had celebrations in the Atrium, Pool Deck, Vista Lounge, Explorers Lounge, even in the Casino.

Check with the staff. Some preferred loud. They had a celebration for those who speak Spanish as well.

  11. Please explain.

I originally looked a booking a Princess World Cruise segment in Asia. I was not allowed to book a specific room and a room would only be assigned at the time of embarkation. Both the website and 6 Princess phone reps told this to me over the course of 2 months of inquiries.

On Cunard, the similar route on the World Cruise segment was significantly more affordable and I could reserve the specific cabin number/room both online or via Cunard's phone rep.

On Princess, if I wanted to sign up for a specific available cabin, they required me to book the whole World Cruise or one that was significantly of longer duration (like 60 days or more). I understand they want to keep their specific cabins/rooms for anyone who might book the longer and more expensive cruise segments. I chose Cunard's World Cruise segment because they adopted the restricted smoking policy as Princess and they let me get a specific cabin assignment.

  12. We did a 4 night taster last year on Cunard.Loved it and don't see why you wouldn't.:)

Wanted to try Cunard earlier on one of their shorter cruises like the one you went on but we couldn't get our schedules lined up. Then we checked last week and saw this World Cruise segment opened up with a great low price so we decided to book it. With the airfare from Honolulu, this is going to end up as a Around-The-World trip for us anyway, just a lot shorter than the a complete World Cruise timeline.

  13. I've finally decided to go on a Cunard World Cruise segment on board the Queen Elizabeth. I'm glad Cunard implemented a restrictive smoking policy similar to Princess, but I recently noticed they had World Cruise segments that matched my destination, cost, and room availability requirements in Asia, Arabia, and Africa. Not sure why Princess didn't do the samething Cunard is doing now with 3 ships. I like that Cunard still allows me to pick my cabin on these World Cruise segments...Princess now assigns rooms just prior to embarkation...which makes me a little nervous.

Anyway, I'm looking forward towards my first Cunard cruise...maybe just the start.

QUESTION: Has anyone been or signed on to the Cunard Taj Mahal land tour in India? I see it on my shore excursion options but I'd like to hear anyone's experience or opinions on it.

    Thanks.

  14. Ditto. Great Review. We were on the Golden this past December/January. The captain and crew were great. The ship was ok, we never encountered the problems of other reviewers but a few of our dinner tablemates had problems in their Aloha deck mid-ship cabins. But overall a nice South American adventure.

  16. Just found out that Joe May who was a regular port lecturer on board Princess for the South America itineraries passed away last night in his sleep from a cardiac arrest. He will be missed.

    We will miss you Joe!

Joe helped us a lot on our South American cruise this past December/January. He also gave us a lot of personal advice on how to handle problems we encountered with Princess on several land tours.
