  1. What hotel?

    Rich

    Hi Rich,

It's the Century Hotel South Beach. It's art deco vintage, but gets good reviews, averaging 7+ out of 10. Probably partly because it has a new owner (as of a year or so ago), and has updating (like marble bathrooms and showers).

I did a lot of looking, and most of the older hotels don't get as many good reviews as this one does.

It's also on the southern end of South Beach, where reviewers say it's quiet, but walking distance to the sights and sounds. And it's close enough to the ship alley leaving Miami port that you can walk along the beach and watch the ships coming and going. I plan to watch NCL Sky leaving on Friday evening (I depart Sky Friday morning) after having a day on the beach ...then explore South Beach Friday night.

Disclaimer: I have not been to this hotel yet, nor do I have anything to do with it ...it's just the best reviewed budget hotel in the area that I could find.

    Hope this helps.

  2. I just booked NCL Sky 4nt October 29th sailing ... Halloween in the Bahamas ... for $440 including fees and taxes, single occupancy, inside guarantee. Plus on-board credit and a bottle of wine (from NCL).

Itinerary: Miami - Grand Bahama - Nassau - Great Stirrup Cay - Miami

BTW: I also got an art deco South Beach hotel, right on the beach, for the night before and the night after the cruise -- Friday night in South Beach! ;) -- for about $100 each night.

Great Halloween getaway ...2nts in Miami, 4nts at sea, 3 Bahamas ports ...for under $700.

  3. I have tried 4 times to get info from Crown & Anchor. Every time they deny there are single occupancy cabins on Radiance. But that's only because no one knows what's going on at RCI. They seem determined to become a worse and worse cruise line ...their PR is especially poor and seems to get worse all the time.

But Cruise Critic reported on the addition of the single occupancy cabins during Radiance's recent drydock, and they do show up on the deck plans posted on at least one travel agency (can't mention the well-known vacation company). They are on deck 4, in a great location.

I think top mgmt. is giving them to VIP's, and denying their existence to the rest of us (and to their own agents).

  4. Heads up you solo travelers. I have to cancel my unique 1A, with 2 large unobstructed oceanview windows, on Carnival Victory (great 7 day itinerary) out of San Juan to 5 islands, departing February 27, 2011 (best time of year for the Caribbean too).

There are very few 1A cabins in the whole fleet with the two big windows.

I'm cancelling today, so call your TAs if interested. You snooze you lose.

  5. This must be Celebrity days.

Celebrity also has great prices on Summit for 7 day sailings out of San Juan. I got a midship oceanview cabin, with $80 OBC (through a TA), for the Dec. 4 sailing. If you subtract the $80 OBC, I'm paying just over $100 a night for single occupancy oceanview (not obstructed) on Celebrity!

And it's not some repo cruise, it's 5 of the best ports in the Caribbean (six including San Juan), then a sea day at the end.

I'm staying in San Juan for 2 nights post cruise, in a charming Old San Juan hotel for $100 a night.

BTW, Dec. is a great time to sail the Caribbean ;) ... no hurricanes, and the ports are decorated with their H o l i d a y s trimmings; and so is the ship.

    Come join me! :)

  6. Hi all! I just booked the Caribbean Princess for Dec. 12, 2010. Princess has good prices right now for a solo. I booked an obstructed OCEANVIEW for $809 (total price, plus $75 OBC thru a travel agency), single occupancy, with past guest discount; but w/o the discount, it's only a few dollars more (and no age or residency requirements).

That's a good price for a 7 day cruise for single occupancy, with a window, and on Princess, which has a good product.

I love the Caribbean, and 'cause it's the Holidays season, the ship and all the ports will have their Holidays decorations up.

After sailing on the Sapphire Princess (a near-identical sister ship) I know the ship is beautiful, with great amenities, and with all the features I like.

Come on and join me for the Holidays!

  7. Hi Ryan:), not sure what type of rate you are looking for but I know

Celebrity has SUMMIT going out of San Juan. It is a 7 day cruise

but it is very port intensive. Prices (in my opinion) are quite good, even

    for a solo.

If you check the Celebrity website you can see the sailings they offer.

Thanks Lois, and Zoncom. Summit does look like a good itinerary and price. I also found Carnival Victory out of San Juan with a port visit every day! (which I like), for a good price.

I booked Victory for Feb. 26 sailing, but I can always cancel if I find another more appealing option.

By the way, since there's talk now about TA vs. Cruise line booking ...I booked with a TA, with the guarantee they will honor any price reductions, and with no cancellation fees or any add-on fees, ...AND they gave me a 11% discount over the cruise line price, which is just enough to pay for the gratuities.

  8. Hi all. I see that the Celebrity Summit 7 night sailing, 12-12-09, roundtrip San Juan, Puerto Rico, has a fare of approx. $650 including taxes, for an ocean view (!), single occupancy and no senior or residency requirement.

I've done cruises between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they are fun. The ship is decorated for the holidays, and so are the ports of call.

This cruise has 5 ports of call, one sea day, and San Juan too (making 6 ports) -- all in one 7 day cruise.

  9. Hi again.

The RCI Serenade of the Seas 12/12/2009 sailing has a good senior, single occupancy price for BALCONY cabins now. You can get one for about $915.

It's a port-intensive 7 night sailing from San Juan, to St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Kitts, Dominica (not to be confused with Dominican Republic), Barbados, sea day, San Juan. That's 6 ports and one sea day in a 7 day sailing!

    Great ship too.

Also, the ship and all the ports will have their Holidays decorations on display.

  10. Royal Caribbean has many good rates now.

    For instance:

I have a midship oceanview on Serenade, 12/12/09, single occupancy, senior rate, for $744 ...great itinerary out of San Juan, 6 ports in 7 days plus one sea day.

I'm considering Mariner, 7 day Mexican Riviera out of Los Angeles, for $653, senior/single occupancy.

And Radiance has some great rates, out of San Diego.

Go to RoyalCaribbean.com and search cruises, be sure to mark the "special rates" options.

  11. Hi Ryan, great price:)

Actually that is so low because it is 2 weeks BEFORE the holidays;)

Whenever I look at December sailings I always find early in the

month is really good:D...the actual Holiday Sailings are sky high:eek:

I guess you're right ... sorry if my post is misleading.

I consider it "the Holidays" from Halloween to New Year's Day. ;)

  12. Hi all. I just booked a single occupancy cabin, OCEANVIEW, senior rate, on 7 night RCI Serenade of the Seas, 12-12-09, for just shy of $750 including taxes. :D

It's a good Caribbean itinerary, port intensive for those who like that (I do): San Juan - St. Thomas - St. Croix - St. Kitts - Dominica - Barbados - sea day - San Juan.

The ship will be decorated for the holidays too. :)

  13. Ok everbody ...lots of people say that Oceania sometimes has good prices for solos ...and lots of people say they don't want to pay Oceania prices.

Well, right now Oceania has 25% single supplement for ALL categories on the Regatta, Jan. 14, 2010, 16 night PANAMA CANAL full transit, Miami to Los Angeles.

You can get an inside for about $3200. That's $200 a night (single occupancy) for Oceania, and Panama Canal (which is always expensive even for double occupancy).

Sounds like a great opportunity ...if you have 16 days and $3200 .

BTW, can we keep the chit chat down on this thread? There are more chatty posts than good solo prices posts. I get lots of emails alerting me to a new post on this thread, I go check it out, and it's usually just chat.

  14. I'm looking for someplace warm to go in December (solo) out of NY/NJ or Florida. Any suggestions on any singles deals? Ideally, I would prefer a more upscale ship, but will compromise. Anybody know of anything?

My sailing on Serenade of the Seas, Dec. 13, is having some very good prices ...but they come and go almost daily, so if you're interested, just keep looking on the RCI site.

It's a beautiful upscale ship, with a fabulous 12 story atrium, and it will be nicely decorated for the holidays. And the itinerary is great if you like ports ...6 Caribbean ports and one sea day on a 7 day cruise, you can't beat that. :)

It's roundtrip out of San Juan, so I don't know if you like that, but it goes to St. Lucia and Barbados, which can't be done from Florida on a 7 day cruise.

  15. A thread for single supplement/solo bargains is very helpful for solo cruisers. :)

There used to be one, but it disappeared  ...maybe it got too big.

So let's start another one and see what happens.

:D Post all those great deals everyone! :D

But remember, you can't mention specific travel agencies, just general info like:

"Cruise line .... currently has good prices for solo occupancy on .... sailing".
