  1. About a year ago I cruised on the Navigator. While on board we attended the Martini tastings (a cruise favorite). At the tastings we received a whole packet of their Martini recipes. During the Thanksgiving weekend ours grew legs and walked off somewhere. I am hoping that there is someone out there who has those and that I can get a copy of them. Thanks in advance.

  2. We also pick up shells from beaches we go to. We have a large jar at home where we put them. When I look at our collection I recall all of the blessing that God has given us through the privlidge we have to travel. I am also reminded of the beauty of the works of His creation as I think of the beautiful beaches, shores, and other works of His hands.

  3. On my daughters first cruise on the Carnival Holiday, she quickly made friends with our waiter Vikktor and asst Ne (?). But she became especially close to our cabin steward, Barrett, from India. She's a very friendly child, asking lots of questions of people about themselves, waving and hugging when she sees them. He shared with us that he was going home after this cruise for his vacation and that it had been several months since he'd seen his family. He made sure she had towel animals that he'd decorate with things from our cabin (he didn't go as extravagently for my parents room.) He gave her gifts of a stuffed teddy bear with its own t-shirt with the Holiday ship logo on it, a stuffed puppy dog in a little carry purse, a tin of hard candies, and the book of how to make your own towel animals. He also wrote her a very sweet letter of how she reminded him of his children, how sweet of a little girl she was, and how she would always have a friend in India. She cried on the last night and all the adults, Barrett included, teared up too. He went well above and beyond what was expected, establishing a very personal relationship with our family. It's been several years, and she still talks about him. That's just one more thing that makes us loyal to Carnival!

Great story--I bet you tipped him very well!!!

  4. I am so glad I found this hilarious thread. I just started reading it yesterday and I'm only up to page 13, but it is so funny I have almost had tears at times. I read this at work so I have to hold in the laughter (a very difficult task!) and I end up turning red and tears well up. I thought I would add my story to the thread.

Sailing out of Juneau in May 2009 on the Rhapsody of the Seas a lot of us were at the railing on the Promenade Deck when we saw a group of about 20 college age kids run down to the shore to wave us goodbye. I was filming with my camcorder and thought this would be a nice thing to show my non-cruising relatives, how when you leave a cruise port people on the shore wave goodbye.

I was watching this scene of the college kids thru the tiny LCD screen on the camcorder and they were far away, so I couldn't see much except little figures far away. I get home, transfer the video to the computer, and make DVDs for a lot of my relatives, including those with small children and those who are very religious and prim and proper. I mailed the DVDs off the next day then sat down to watch my own copy on my big screen HDTV. The video was filmed in HD too so it was crystal clear.

Imagine my horror when the DVD gets to that part of the college kids waving us goodbye and I see they were not waving us goodbye, THEY WERE MOONING US!!!!!! 20 bare butts all lined up in a row shaking at us! And I sent this to all my relatives! OMG! Luckily no one said anything, but in the future I will watch DVDs I make on a big screen before sending them out.

For what it is worth. I am a Baptist Pastor--very conservative--I think that is funny.

  5. We were on a Baltic cruise, several years ago, Joy Behar from The View was on the ship, my husband saw her several times in the casino, I saw her coming off the ship one day, she was traveling with a lot of other people. Apparently HAL asked her to do an afternoon "Talk" in the theater on one of our sea days. It was casual talk about vacationing, she was funny, but a lot of people did not have a clue who she was, including my husband.

There would be alot of celebrities that I would think it "was pretty cool" to see on a cruise. Joy Behar would NOT be on any list like that. Did she ride a broomstick around the ship?

  6. Like another poster, I had just come out of the buffet with a plate of nachos and once I hit outside, a big gust of wind carried then away and a massive glob of cheese and nachos landed squarely on the face of this older woman. Meanwhile, the wind is continuing to blow and the nachos are continuing to fly and she was batting them away like Wonder Woman bats away bullets. It only lasted about 2-3 seconds but it was like slow motion. She had all of these nacho chips stuck to her with globs of cheese. Thankfully, she was laughing about it.

Another time, I was riding the elevator with this gentleman - just him and me - and you could see him shift from left foot to right. I then heard the beginnings of a fart and, not to be gross, but you could hear the fact that he was trying to contain it by the difference in 'pitch'. Again, not to be gross but it must have lasted 30 seconds. Meanwhile, I'm facing the door, praying the elevator goes faster and trying not to blow my ear drums out by not laughing. Finally, we got to his floor and he dashes out. I followed and took the stairs the remaining two flights.

Great stories. You painted a great word picture of the woman swatting away nachos. Too funny.

  7. I fell on the dock at the last port of my first cruise. That doesn’t sound too embarrassing but it didn’t end there. The ship doctor said the fall had fractured the radial cusp in both of my elbows so he put both of my arms in these peach colored foam sling things. I couldn’t use my arms for the rest of the cruise, was unable to lift my arms above my shoulders (so I was stuck in the top I had on), was in pain or loopy from the pain pills, and looked ridiculous. I couldn’t even feed myself. It very embarrassing and the worst way to end my first cruise.

I feel so bad for you. Usually I laugh at the posts in here--But not yours. I hope you are doing better and that this did not sour you on cruising.

  8. We do enjoy elevator fun. We have cruised with family a couple of times, my wife and sister-in-law will start to dance in the elevator and try to get other to join in. Though they always do it for the security camera. I like to get in the front of the elevator and then stare at everyone. Makes some people uncomfortable. Another fun elevator thing is to look at everyone in the elevator and announce something to the effect of "I bet you are all wondering why I called you here today." Always good for a chuckle.

  9. On my 1st cruise last year my best friend and I eagerly set our alarms to wake us up in enough time to get ready for CoCo Cay. We got up, got dressed, packed our bags and headed down the hallway to the elevator and we couldn't figure out where we had to go for the tender. Luckily a guy stopped us and informed us that we missed CoCoCay. OOPS! We had to look a tad stupid, but hey we didnt hear the announcement in our room and weren't up as early as everyone. We nonchalantly walked back to our room and got ready for a day at sea!

Do you mean that they decided not to stop at CoCo Cay? Why did they not stop?

  10. On our first Alaska cruise, we were on deck admiring the scenery, when we overheard someone loudly state "God, this is nothing trees and water!"

As we were smiling to ourselves, the same person loudly asked us "Are we in Alaska yet, or still in America?"

Keep in mind, this was the first sea day, and the person was from the US.

We still chuckle about that one

And some of those people still vote----now you know how Obama got elected.

  11. I always call my stuck at home friends from the lido with a drink (or 3). Believe me they have called me when I was stuck at home too! I have made this a tradition now & I suppose it's a bit odd.

My 2nd oddity is I love seeing those lifejackets hanging in the closet. Means I'm on a ship!

I have to tell you---that is one great picture you have on there---I love it.
