We monitor the pricing daily. It is something that Edward checks on literally every single day when he gets to the office to see if pricing has declined. By doing this he starts to understand the trend in pricing and what is really a good deal versus what is not. We tend to initially book a cabin / room category we are satisfied with. Usually that  means concierge class (since we want the extra points) and we upgrade from there. Many times we are upgrading after final payment as that is when we see pricing drop most often.

With this cruise, specifically, Edward saw a suite guarantee one morning and immediately put a hold on it. As soon as he held it he saw pricing jump up meaning there was likely only 1 or 2 suites they were putting on guarantee for that price. He put it on hold with Celebrity and then immediately reached out to our TA to have that hold transferred over.

Thank you for describing how you look for possible upgrades. I was going to post a question to you.

  2. Just got back from Maya chan and wanted to post a few quick items.. Also answer any questions if I can.

First off - they are very upfront about what to expect (Bumpy roads, sea grass on the beach and cloudier water). Their team could not have worked harder to greet everyone, make everyone feel at home, welcomed and taken care of! Great food - and lots of it, the drinks were flowing and plentiful! Lots of beach toys, paddleboards, kayaks, floaty chairs. The massages were a nice touch - $45 for an hour is super reasonable. I did see a Jellyfish while in the water so beware there but that's not really anything they can control. Snorkeling to the reef we were told wasn't recommended, was hoping to see some sea turtles or fish and that was the only thing we didn't. You didn't feel like you had a crowded area, everything was well managed!

As they said to us - if you're looking for the crystal blue waters, this isn't the place but if you're looking for a relaxing beach break - it was great. Last tip - DO NOT FORGET BUG SPRAY!

We are booked for December & I am looking forward to it. I just have one question, did you tip servers or bartender?

  3. Does the bus stop at all hotels along Palm Beach? We have a day pass arranged at Occidental Grand and are wondering about taking the bus over a taxi. If the bus doesn't stop at the Occidental, what is the closest stop? Thanks for any help.

  4. Day 1, Port Everglades:

We have one of these "sideways" rooms, 6051. After seeing your pictures, I'm a little leery of the room. It seems very small in your pics. Maybe I'll see if we can upgrade...

I can't determine where the door is, either. Can you explain the door location? We will have our bed separated, will that make the room seem larger or smaller? Thanks.

  5. Is there a restaurant near Port Everglades where you can watch the ships sail away?

Also, we are thinking about renting a car for the day while we're in Fort Lauderdale. We'd prefer just renting for the day and not overnight. What would be the best option for doing so? We're staying 2 nights pre-cruise and will have all day Sunday before sailing on Monday. We're staying at a Best Western. Would the best option be to take a shuttle to the airport & rent from there?
