  1. I sent an email a few days ago to mariner_society@hollandamerica.com regarding two cruises in December that are not showing up in my history.  Here is the response:

Thank you for your recent correspondence with Holland America Line regarding your recent December sailings.  We are experiencing technical difficulties resulting in the cruise credits for the sailing, onboard spending and suite bonus (if applicable) not populating to guest profiles.  We are working diligently to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

At this time we do not have an estimate of when the issue will be resolved and your history posted to your profile. Please know we value your loyalty and sincerely apologize for the delay.  Once this is resolved, all pending information will be processed and visible in your account.  No further action of follow up will be required for this to be processed.

Again, we sincerely apologize for the delay.  If you have any questions please let us know.  We hope to welcome you back onboard with us in the near future.

  2. Can anyone think of a better way for HAL to handle drink receipts for people on a drink package?  On a few occasions my card was swiped and returned without the receipt.  But most of the time, it was printed and handed back for me to sign.  Since the tip is included, I almost always added no additional tip and signed.  I found that "extra" step slightly inconvenient. I realize they don't know if I'm going to add an additional tip or not, so they are just giving me the option.  My question is this, do you typically add a second tip to bar tabs or not?  If most people do not, then I'm thinking those that do want to tip extra could ask for the receipt when ordering so they can add the tip or just use cash if they prefer.  I'm suggesting that the default for HAL should be to not print a receipt for us to sign.  I recall being on another cruise line without the receipts and I liked that way better.

  3. Nice write up @PointsNerd.  I'm on Rotterdam this week and was able to get Chromecast working just as you described.  I tried plugging the Chromecast power USB into the TV (instead of the wall) but it didn't work for me.  So I used a long cord to the wall like you did.   Maybe the TV can't supply enough current.  I like your way better any way because it makes it easier to switch back and forth to HAL TV - just unplug or plug in the power.  That is hard to do with such a tight fit behind the TV!  Did you sign up for the meet and mingle on 12/6 at 10am?  It's in the Crows Nest.   Hope to see you there!

  4. I'm going on a 12-day cruise in December and see the option to buy an Unlimited Fitness Class Pass for $99.  Are these passes offered on board as well, or do I need to purchase this before hand?  Also, I see this strange wording in the details:   "Available on cruises of 8 days or more, and classed must be booked for 10 consecutive days. I don't know what this means.

    Thank you!

  5. @blender41 I would not recommend this tour from Celebrity.  The guides were nice enough, but the bicycles and stops were all low budget.  Maybe we got a chance to see the "real" Cayman Islands, I don't know, but it was not worth the money for sure.

After the drive from the port, we met at some random house with no restrooms.  Then we were shown to our bicycles which were very basic.  Then we rode to a few stops - Hell, Rum Cake store and then a view of the Dolphin swim place as a spectator only.  The stops seemed like excuses to get us to a gift shop,  When we got to the 7 mile beach portion of the excursion, my wife and I had had enough and just went back to the ship.  I talked to a couple that actually went to the beach and they said it was too crowded and they wished they hadn't.  Let me know if you need more info.

  6. Hello - I wanted to know if anyone here has done a bike tour in Grand Cayman.  This particular one is offered by Celebrity:

Bike from Morgan's Harbor along the countryside lanes and roads as you wind your way through the West Bay District and explore the rugged coastline through the curves and turns around Boatswain Bay and Cobalt Coast.

  7. Hello All -

I tried to search for this and didn't find anything, so if there is an existing post, please let me know.  I'm booked as a Solo on the Equinox next month.  Originally my wife couldn't join me.  Well now there's a chance she can!  Can I add her online via the X web site or is this best done by calling in?  The wait times have been so long, I'm dreading that call.

    Thank you,

    David

  8. Thanks! My email address is poa1 - at - instituteofcheer.com

    I really appreciate it!

I finally was able to send you those images of the Brewhouse menu. I had to get off the ship and find a decent WiFi connection. (@ Little French Key). Also had to use a VPN so I could upload to Dropbox. Let me know if you got the link.

As a side note. Our cruise critic meet and mingle at the Brewhouse was very good. The perfect spot!!

  9. Thank you POA1 for a great review. I just boarded the Escape a few hours ago. Reading your posts really helped me get ready for this cruise!!! I'm traveling solo because I have a week off between my old job and a new one. My wife has a business trip in NYC and she couldn't come. It's ok with me though. I could use some "me" time. Looking forward to your next review . .
