  1. Cartagena was one of our favorite stops, and we would love to return there. The old city is beautiful but it is true that people are constantly asking for money or for you to buy something.  If you don't wish to go into town, there is a lovely shaded area at the port where we saw a local dance / music group perform.  There is an emerald mining exhibit, exotic birds and animals, nice gardens,  a shop with jewelry, handicrafts, a coffee shop.  All inside the secured port area.

  2. I forgot to mention in my previous post that in Montreal you pre-clear US immigration and customs (in Montreal),  so when you arrive in the US, you do not have to go through immigration or customs there. It's just like arriving on a domestic flight. Flying from Quebec City, they do not offer pre-clearance, so you will be arriving as if on an international flight when you arrive in the US. That to us is much less convenient.

  3. The last time we did this itinerary, we flew from Quebec City, but we wouldn't do it again. Flight choices were very limited, and we had a connection in Newark, which was awful. After claiming our luggage and going through customs and immigration then rechecking the luggage, we were outside the secure area and had to go through security lines again.  We have taken the train from Quebec City to Montreal, which is very pleasant. Montreal has a lot more flight choices, at least for us. That's what we would do in the future.

  4. Has anyone taken the HAL Curacao Food-Hopping by Night: In Partnership with Food & Wine Magazine?

It includes stops at Restaurant Gouverneur de Rouville, Motown Bar, Tabooshh restaurant, and Papagayo Bech Club.  It sounds like fun but is expensive, so I was looking for some reviews before we decided to book it.

  5. On Zuiderdam in Nov. 2019, we were out on the bow at 5 a.m. and there were already plenty of people at that time.  We managed to get a place along the rail, but it filled up quickly.  We chose to stay on the ship and were glad we did.  It was fascinating going through the locks and I enjoyed the opportunity to see it again on the way back through, when there were fewer people on deck.  We enjoyed it so much we've booked the cruise again for this fall, and we're planning to stay onboard this time as well.

  6. We recently stayed at the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas and loved it.  Water taxi right outside the hotel, could walk to lots of restaurants and shops.  CVS also within walking distance.  We will stay here again for our next cruise out of Fort Lauderdale.

  7. We always were seated at a nice table, whether we requested to sit with others or at a table for two.  When we sat with others they didn't have the CO menus so it wasn't a specific section of the dining room.  There is a separate podium for CO so you don't need to wait in line for a table.  We were always seated immediately.

  8. We just got off the Zuiderdam on Nov. 10, and Club Orange wasn't a separate area of the dining room.  We were seated at tables with others some nights (our choice), and we were given the Club Orange menus while others at the table had the regular menus.  We chose the CO special menu item about half the time and they were all very good.

  9. We always take the public bus, $2.50 per person (they accept US $).  You can board them and get off anywhere along the route, doesn't have to be at a bus stop.  We just start walking towards the beach and when the bus (mini van) comes along the driver will honk to see if you want a ride.  Just wave at the driver to stop and tell them where you want to be dropped off.  We usually go to Royal Palms ($2 entrance fee).

  10. We have done this 3 times on our own, most recently in June, and would definitely recommend doing it that way. Taxi is $12 each way - easy. We brought our own snorkeling equipment last time so I don't remember the cost of renting, but it was reasonable when we did it in 2017.
