  1. Hi Steve & Sue,

I've seen Tonic and Club Soda both out of the guns and in cans. The pool bar, mast bar and sunset bar for instance all have the guns but have cans upon request. While other bars, such as the Molecular bar for instance does not have any guns (they do have a gun but only used for water, they don't have anything else on it). On one of our cruises our tradition was meeting at the Molecular bar after dinner. One of the members in our group drank vodka club soda. They didn't carry this at the bar, but after requesting it one time the bar manager made sure that every night they had a few cans of club soda for my friend.

Just ask for the can of tonic and you should be fine. If they don't have it, just ask if they can get it for the following night. Once they know your routine they will make sure to have it for you.

    Cheers & Happy Cruising!

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the information.

Looks like we are on the same cruise on Silhouette on December 14th, so if you see a pair of Brits staring disconsolately into their over sweet GnTs or zigzagging towards the dining room, Manhattans in hand, please do come over and say hello.

    Cheers!

    Steve and Sue

  2. Sorry for the triviality of this question, but our favourite pre-dinner tipple is a nice G & T, and wondered if the tonic served up in the bars on Celebrity is out of a bottle/can or the horrible flat stuff served from a squirty pump thing. If the latter then we may have to buy the tonic to top up our Tanqueray ashore. I know we've seen canned stuff in our minibar before, but can't recall the brand except that it was very sweet.

And as a side question….our second favourite drinks are Manhattans and Old Fashioneds; does anyone know if we'll be able to squeeze these out of our Classic drinks package? We are not too fussy about the brand of the bourbon etc. or the size. We know this info. is out there somewhere, but pulling it together from multiple threads and/or the dreaded Celebrity web-site is like trying to knit fog. Sheer laziness on our part, sorry!

    Thanks in advance

    Steve & Sue

  3. We have a late evening flight out of Miami post-cruise in December and would be grateful for any advice on what we could do to make the best use of a few hours in the city – we’d prefer not to lounge about in the hotel.

We have a day room at the Sheraton Miami airport; at a guess, after disembarkation and transport from Port Everglades, we’ll probably arrive there mid-morning. Our flight is just before 9pm, so we’ll expect to be collected from the hotel some time after 5pm.

Ideally, we’d like to see the South Beach/Art Deco area. Would this be feasible, building in a good margin for error in getting back to our hotel in good time? We know it's only 12 miles, but we are neurotic - if we get it wrong we’ll most likely be spending Christmas in Miami, where it would be unlikely to be a white one!

If so, what would be the best, safest (and if possible most economical) way of doing this? Is the Miami Airport Station, which appears to be right opposite our hotel of any use?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

    Steve

  4. Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply.

Our TA has now been in touch with Celebrity and apparently they forgot to book the post cruise hotel! They have now done so however; good job we checked. We are in the Sheraton MIA, where they put us last time.

It's likely we'll have a few hours to spare, so we now need to find out whether it's feasible to have a look around part of Miami and how best to do it. Last time we just stayed in the hotel, which was a bit dull.

We'll post a separate question about this

    Thanks again

  5. For our last Caribbean cruise with Celebrity back in 2010, they transferred us post-cruise to a day room at the Sheraton Miami as our flight back to London was late evening (our flights, transfers, pre-cruise hotel were all booked via Celebrity).

We have booked the same sort of package for our forthcoming cruise on Silhouette in December, but our TA is uncertain as to whether Celebrity still provides post-cruise rooms/hotels. There is no mention on our paperwork, but there wasn't last time either. Can anyone clarify?

If not, it looks like we may simply be transferred to the airport very, very early, unless we choose an excursion of course.

Thanks in advance for any info.

  6. Hardcore Beatles fans might also wish to consider a visit to the childhood homes of Lennon and McCartney, though they'd have to book in advance as the number of places is limited to 14 per trip (max 3 trips per day I think, so as not to wear out the carpet).

    Booking is via www.nationaltrust.org.uk/beatles

Also, they could visit the sight of the original Cavern club and sample a pint in one of the pubs where they used to drink (The Grapes on Matthew St)

  7. Our favourites are Rome (Civitavecchia) - masses to see (in both senses of the word), Barcelona (apart from the Ramblas - don't understand the appeal of this over-touristy, crowded street), and Naples (far too much to see on just one visit).

Not particularly impressed by Nice or Florence (Livorno).

It's a pity to miss out on the Eastern Med though. I'm not aware that there are any particular dangers there. In fact it's probably safer than the likes of Barcelona and Rome.
