  1. When we sailed in Havana in Jan, they were checking cards - all around the deck, not just as you walked in. There was only one family with a kid, and several days in, there was a different person working back there, and he made them get out of the pool, get their card and prove the kid was over 12 and in a Havana cabin. We appreciate them enforcing the rules.

  2. I just returned a couple of days ago with out group of 70's, 50's, 40's and 13 yr olds. We sailed Carnival - mainly because it offers a good value price, and everyone was a first time cruiser except myself (12 cruises), hubby and 13 yr old. The Carnival Legends is an older ship and shows it in some ways, however I loved it's layout over other Carnival ships. There was A LOT of open areas with seating near windows to view the sights. The 13 yr old enjoyed there being kids on board - quite a few, but not as many as normally in Caribbean. Carnival tends to be more Family w/ kids oriented, but this sailing skewed much older than Carnival's normal demographic. Very different vibe that when in Caribbean, more sedate and less partying, but still LOTS of fun. Our itinerary included Glacier Bay, which was BEAUTIFUL!!

Princess is excellent in Alaska, just not as much for kids. NCL might be another good choice, they just aren't my favorite cruise line.

  3. We just returned on Tuesday, and it was mid 50s-60s, cloudy, slight drizzly rain occasionally all week (except in Seattle area). I got by with jeans, 3/4 length sleeve shirt, and a windbreaker most days. Had a fleece jacket, but only wore that underneath in Glacier Bay.

  4. We just returned from Skagway and rented a 4 door jeep from Alaska Green jeeps. It comes with an audio guided tour, and a guide book with maps, history and directions. We went all the way to Emerald Lake, with stops at Carcross, Caribou Crossing to see the Sled Dogs, Bridal Veil & International Falls. We rented at 8am, drove straight through to Carcross, stopped for about 30 min. Then on the Caribou Crossing to see the dogs. ($8.50 to go through the tour, petting zoo. We didn't do a sled ride). Then continued to Emerald Lake. After returning to Skagway, we went out to Dyea and the tidal flats area. We returned the jeep by 4:30-ish. Then spent a little time heading back to the ship. We had a great day!!

  5. My 76 yr old mother has convinced my 21 yr old son to take her on a trip. She'd prefer NYC, but her other idea is a European river cruise. I was against the NYC trip because of the amount of walking - She uses a cane and is very slow and unable to walk long distances due to arthritis. I really against the river cruise, simply because I worry about him being "in charge" of her overseas. She is not to the point of wandering off, or forgetting who people are, but does get forget conversations you have had repeatedly just minutes earlier.

Would you be concerned or have reservations, or should I let them go (not that I can really stop them) and enjoy probably her last big trip?

Any other suggestions for cruise trips for them staying closer to US? She's done Canada/NE, and she's not a sun & sand caribbean person.

    Thank you,

  6.

Does anyone know if there is anything similar for Alaska? We hope to drive the Yukon Highway from Skagway next summer and it would be great to have an app that tells us a little bit about the sights along the way.

I'm not sure what type of vehicle you are using, but we are renting a jeep from Alaska Green Jeeps, it comes with a gps and a DVD narrated tour and maps.

  7. I have 2 questions:

I had previously done research and found a shuttle/car service that could do a package rate of airport to hotel/hotel to pier/pier to airport - all for 1 price. But now I can't remember of find who that was. Anyone heard or seen something similar?

Also, anyone know where a good spot for fireworks would be on July 4th? We get off the ship that day and are staying another night.

    Thanks

  8. I am thinking about taking school supplies with us on our cruise and leaving them here when we port since it isn't a real wealthy area. I did this in Honduras and absolutely loved it! Anyone have any experience doing this?!?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Paradise Beach Club in Cozumel accepts school supplies. Check their website for the list.

  9. I have been to both, and prefer Paradise Beach. It's a little quieter (for me) and there's plenty of shade & Sun. The pool is better - if the water is rough or too chilly, The food is about the same at both. We usually pick 2 appetizer type items and the 5 of us share. Have breakfast on the ship, and a lunch/snack at PB, then an afternoon snack on the ship when you get back. They make most of their drinks in the non-alcohol version. My kids loved it - We will be back there in 2 weeks.

We did Sanchos when my youngest was 8(oldest 18), Paradise Beach when she was 11 and 12, and now 13.

  10. I had already done my online check in and chose my check in time for my Liberty cruise in 2 weeks. THen I found a FTTF available. So do I stick to my original check in time, or does FTTF get me on sooner? Don't want to be one of those people who thinks they are more special than they really are. lol

  11. There are reviews for the liberty. They're just a little hard to find. She's going into dry dock either at the end of this year or beginning of next. We are on her in 2 weeks so I was looking for reviews too. Will try to link the one review I've found helpful

I was on her right after she came out of dry dock with the 2.0 upgrades about 5 years ago, and will be on here in 2 weeks.

She had guys & the blue iguana, alchemy and the red frog bar, sports bar. No waterworks, just the slides. Love her back then. Looking forward to seeing her again on our 5 day.

  12. Obviously you are not the only one...but not everyone is like you.

We have only been on four cruises, and with each one, the pre-cruise excitement gets less and less. Frankly this last one, the planning and packing was approaching chore status. But once we stopped at Buc-ee's (I45 exit 17 as you approach Galveston), the mood lightened and excitement ramped up considerably. Could not wait to see the ship!

Last year, I booked on a Friday, and set sail on that cruise on Monday. Talk about no time to overplan - ha! I would recommend doing that at least once for everyone.

  13. We did Little French Key last Spring Break. If you tell them when you get there that you want to see the Monkeys, your waiter will come get you when it's time. He did it for us, we were in a group of about 6 who he took and we had time with 3 different monkeys to hold and play with for about 20-30 min. We also got to pet the lion (I know, it's a lion, right?! But we did pet him and all came back with our fingers)

We loved LFK and would totally go back again.

  14. Found it thanks to your email used some of your wording in my email search- it was hidden three layers down in an email. We are also booked on 11:00am.

Tap me if you see me & say hey- Suzy. I am guess based on cool weather will have raincoat on outer layer- either eggplant color or bright purple!

Who did you email to book this? We are cruising Alaska next summer, but trying to plan ahead.
