  1. We have a 3-day pre-cruise in Prague and join the Viking Var in Nuremberg later this month. How long do you think this trip will take with rest stops? Thanks for your help. I really enjoy your Blog. ;)

It's about 4 hours with a half hour stop mid way. Very comfortable bus with restroom on board and bottled water provided. Bring small Euro coins (.50) for the pay toilets at the rest stop!

  2. Thank you all for the updates/info. I'm hoping, doing rain dances, etc., between now and next week in hopes of improvements.

It was raining in Budapest Friday morning when we left and current weather shows rain.

  3. We were not offered anything for our trouble, not even a free drink!!!

I was also on Viking Var/Tor and our biggest disappointment was not making port in Budapest and being able to see that wonderful city at night.

In defense, when many complained about missing the daytime cruise through the Wachau Valley, Viking arranged for a river cruise with lunch on the river cruiser "Austria" while we were in Melk at no charge. Also, when we arrived in Vienna there was an evening Opera additional excursion @73 euros pp that Viking made available to everyone without charge...and I did somehow get a free drink on our last night.

The CD did everything he could to work within the limitations. While we were not happy with the cruise overall,it was nature related and out of the control of Viking. We were told our recourse would be to complain to Viking Customer Service and negotiate restitution.

  4. We are sailing from Budapest to Amsterdam, set to begin on Sept. 14. Has the unrest with the migrants caused any cruisers problems? Just wanting to be prepared if necessary.

    Thanks

Probably best to start your own thread. This one is about water levels on the Danube not Budapest.

  5. Again from the River Ambassador, Vienna to Nuremberg. We got to Passau OK, had our walking tour whilst the boat sailed without us up river to Vilshofen where we boarded and the boat set off again immediately. We then sailed all afternoon and through the night, passing the shallow part of the river about 3am yesterday (Wednesday) morning. We have been moored at a tiny landing stage at Bach an der Donau since yesterday morning and have been taken to a palace and an abbey near Regensburg to make up for missing Melk abbey and a palace in Vienna.

Whilst moored here we have only seen one other river cruiser pass us, just this morning, an Ama boat.

Again, Uniworld are trying their best to make the best of a bad situation and at least we are getting somewhere by river, albeit having to miss out a couple of our scheduled stops. There was a downpour near Regensburg yesterday afternoon but the river is still very low indeed in places.

    Thanks for the update!
