  1. On the Princess website Soda and More is $8.69/day.

Is it cheaper to buy it on board?

It was showing as $9.06 on the website before we left. The problem seems to be with the website converting the Australian price of $7 per day a second time, using the current exchange rate. According to a number of previous posts on CC this has been on-going for some time, and is known to Princess. If you pre-purchase you can get the difference credited back to your account once on board. We thought that was too much effort, so we waited until we boarded before purchasing both the soda and more and the coffee card. :D

  2. There are tours to Seal Rocks and the penguin parade tonight. I'm not sure what else is on. Doesn't look like many are getting off. They didn't even bother with tender tickets. We were supposed to tender into Cowes but it looks like they are going to Rhyll instead. I'm not sure why. It's a bit overcast, and cooler than expected, but still all good on board [emoji16]

  3. We've also been looking out for happy hour, but sad to have to agree with Trish, there hasn't been one so far.

Promenade deck only has wooden benches. It's not wide enough for loungers. It's still very nice to walk around though, but is unusual in that there are stairs at the front so you go up to emerald deck, walk around the front, then back down on the other side.

  4. Hey, we're currently on board too! We're an extended family group of 14 ranging in age from late 70's to mid teens.

We've had fantastic weather and smooth seas. There were a few bumps the second night, only enough to rattle the hangers in the closet but not enough to cause any problems.

To answer some of the questions, the ship is aging but generally OK. We're on deck 8, starboard side near the rear, and there was a leak in the corridor near our cabin. The carpet still smells, but it's only noticeable in the the corridor.

Movies on muts includes Wonderwoman, Battle of the Sexes, Pirates of the Caribbean (I assume the latest).

Food and staff all great. Coffee card $36 and soda and more $7 per day. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

We're all having a terrific time!

I'll try and answer some more tomorrow.

  5. Best to download the PDF from any policy and read very carefully, as they can vary a bit.

I second this. We also have a Westpac card, and I was planning on relying on the free insurance until I read the PDS. Our cruise has domestic Australian ports only, so isn't covered. I'm glad we didn't find out the hard way!

So glad it worked out for you, and all my best wishes for your daughter-in-law.

  6. We had insurance with Insureandgo for our trip to the USA earlier this year. I managed to break my leg at Disneyland and received treatment at a hospital in Anaheim. I had no trouble getting the medical expenses refunded. The only problem we had was contacting them on the number they provided for calling from outside Australia. My husband tried on a number of phones but he couldn't get through. I ended up emailing them.

  7. We sailed on the Spirit earlier this year with our 14 and 15 year olds. I was able to nominate a limit on their cards using the kiosk on deck 2. I don't know if it actually worked though as neither of them hit the limit. As far as the amount goes, we decided the limit and then broke it down to an approximate daily amount to make it easier for them to keep track.

  8. How did you book? If it was through a travel agent then you would cancel through them. If you booked via the web site then you'll need to contact Carnival Australia directly. I don't think there's any way of cancelling directly on the web site though. I also can't find an email address. That may mean a phone call which could be pretty expensive from the UK. Their web site only gives local Australian or New Zealand numbers, which can't be used from outside those countries, but this Sydney number should reach them. Try 02 8424 8800. Country code is 61. Another option is to try contacting your local Carnival office and asking them for advice.

  9. There is one Australian credit card that does not have international transaction fees. It is called '28 Degrees Platinum MasterCard'. There is also no annual fee for this card.

The 28degees card is only available to Australian residents, so that's no good. Pity, because it's a great card for overseas travel.

Try this site. It lists details of cards available to non-Australian residents. The cards (at the bottom of the page) all have minimum income requirements. The site seems to be aimed more at migrants and temporary residents, not tourists, but there may be something that will be useful for you.

Is there a particular reason why you need an Australian card? I guess it could be easier to replace if you lose it while you are in Australia.

Edit: I just saw that you are based in Mackay as well as Texas, so the 28degree card maybe ok for you.

  10. Me too. What ship and sailing are you on? I'm in legend leaving March 26. I picked what I hope would be two cabins with the least obstructed views. Guess I'll know on Saturday [emoji2][emoji2]

We're on the Spirit leaving on 27 March, so one day after you! I tried to get two with good views too, but only managed one between the lifeboats (hubby's and mine!) and another two doors down for the kids. Hopefully they'll both be OK.

Your kids must be growing up now. Our daughter will be 16 on the cruise, and our son will be 15 a month later. Not too many years left for them in the kids club, so I feel like we have to make the most of it and fit in as many cruises as possible in the next couple of years. That's my excuse anyway :D

  11. I'm reading that as saying the 1.5% is the card processing fee, not two separate things.

Ah! I see. It does depend on how you read it. I think I got confused by the bit where it says the account processing fee is due when the account is opened. I read it as separate from the 1.5% fee, when they are actually the same thing. Clear as mud :D

Thanks for your help. Maybe I'll just use cash next time too, and save any hassle.

  12.

    24. ONBOARD ACCOUNT

If credit/debit card method of payment is selected, a card processing fee and the total amount of charges incurred by those authorized will be billed to the credit/debit card provided; the card processing fee is non-refundable, due at account opening, and the equivalent of 1.5% of the total amount of charges incurred on board.

Sorry to dredge up this oldish thread, but does anyone know what the card processing fee is? I recall the 1.5% fee on total charges from our previous cruise, but don't remember seeing a card processing fee.

    TIA

  13. Hi Jo

Do you and the family still cruise? I remember you from the Pacific Dawn a few years ago

I remember you too Jacqui! Yes, we do still cruise. We've been doing one a year for the last three or so years now. Last year was the highlight - 24 nights around the Med on the Nieuw Amsterdam! The next one is on the Carnival Spirit on 27 March, possibly going to Fiji, but we'll have to see how things go over there. I'm not too fussed either way to be honest. How about you? You've obviously got at least one coming up soon.
