  1. We took our son on his first cruise at the age of 2 and he loved it. The kids club was a no go as he didn’t like it. Try to maintain as much of the normal routine as possible and go with the flow.

Pack more diapers than you think you’ll need. I added up what we used in a day, added 4 additional to that number and then multiplied by the number of cruising days. You never know if the ship might be delayed or your little one gets sick.

Pack infant/children’s Tylenol and any other meds you might need.

We packed a small back pack with miniature play doh, a blank pad of paper with new crayons and some fun little new toys.

A portable DVD player and some favorite movies. We even downloaded a few movies to our cell phones.

Our son has been exposed to dining in restaurants from a very early age and did quite well in the dining room. The Maitre d’ was able to get us our own table. I didn’t want to ruin anyone else’s dining experience.

I brought snacks from home to have in the cabin. Shelf stable carton milk. I don’t trust the little “coolers” in the room to keep the milk cartons from lido at the right temperature.

Find an empty lounge during the day and let your Littles run around and have fun!

All in all, just go into it with no expectations and just enjoy the time with your family!

  2. We had the Captain’s Suite a few years back. I recall we received a bottle of wine and a small fruit basket. We also received many “gift cards” to the spa and the art auction/gallery in the hopes of us spending more money. You don’t get escorted to the Captain’s Suite. For the amount of money spent, the perks were definitely lacking. With that being said, I would book it again just for the balcony and the views alone. Not to mention having my family of 5 in the same cabin.

  3. I have emailed the maitre'd of the ship a few weeks prior to cruising to request a table for just our family. I've never had any problems with this. I always stressed I didn't want my toddler to disrupt the dining experience of any other passengers.

(replacing the first 2 letters with the correct letters for your ship)

I don't have a full list of the ships Letters. If you use the search option, you'll find it.

  4. We stayed in 11205 this past May and I will agree with the information posted in the link. While our experience wasn't as consistent as theirs, we did have a few nights and early mornings with a very loud and monotonous thud or banging almost like someone taking a ball and throwing it against the wall. It happened around Midnight and then again as early as 5am. I am a very light sleeper, but I didn't let it bother me. The consistency of the noise actually let me drown it out.

We actually liked the cabin and would stay there again. The noise wasn't everyday all day. We had our 3.5 year old with us that still naps mid day and he had no issues at all.

  5. We cruised last June with our then 2 1/2 year old son. He is WELL versed in eating in nice restaurants, but even so I'm always prepared for a possible outburst or whatever. I emailed the maitre d of the Freedom about 2 months before we sailed requesting a private table, specifically a booth, for our family so as to not disrupt the dining experience of anyone. I also brought packaged snacks (gold fish crackers, fruit snacks, etc.) to have as an "appetizer" for him. We also had mini play doh containers with us at all times and a few small cars or trucks. In addition to that, we would have multiple movies downloaded onto our cell phones as a last resort. He did great with all of the above and lasted through a full dining experience every night. We tried Camp Ocean and he hated it so it wasn't an option for us during the week. We cruise again this May and he will be 3 1/2 and I will do all of the above again. Of course we will try Camp Ocean again and fingers crossed he will like it!

  6. We took our 2 year old (at the time) on a cruise last June. I kindly emailed the Maitre'd on the Freedom to request a booth and if that wasn't possible to be seated with just our family. I explained while my son is typically well behaved in restaurants he eats quite slowly and I didn't want any others dining experience to be ruined. I receive a prompt response with 24 hrs and was assured we would have a booth. It all worked out perfectly.

  7. Their might be one outside of the kids club. The playground on the Freedom was directly outside of Camp Ocean. The unfortunate part was it had no cover to protect it from the sun so it was BLAZING hot. Every time we were near it there was never anyone using it.

  8. We carry on a small soft sided cooler with a plastic insert. We fill it with juice and horizon milk boxes for our toddler. Once on board, we put the juice and milk in the fridge and we ask our cabin steward to keep the cooler filled with ice. It's the perfect set up for us!
