  1. We both worked very hard for 40+ years so now that we are retired we are enjoying life to the fullest.

525 nights with RCCL (70 nights on others)

    16-night Transatlantic was the longest

    Only three different continents

Best B2B we ever did was 65 nights from Bayonne, NJ to China. It included the Trans Atlantic, Europe, Suez Canal, Dubai, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Viet Nam and Hong Kong. Ended with a 12 night China land cruise. We have taken longer B2B cruises but this itinerary was by far the very best. We were able to drive to the ship in Bayonne, so the entire trip only required one flight.

  2. Many times the first price that is released is the best price that will be available for a cruise, but it's well worth it to constantly monitor your fare until the final payment date. Either book with a TA who will monitor for you or use an automated fare checking program that will email you immediately whenever there is a fare change. We have used the latter method for years and saved an enormous amount of money.

  3. Hi Fun33,

While this is old news, I can fully understand why you would think it is new. I am annoyed that MSC have not emailed me (and most others it seems) to let us know about this change. It should not take following cruise forums to find out about these things.

I, like you, am considering cancelling. Partly because I was really excited about this Port (like MarkusToe said, it provided a day’s entertainment which can’t be replaced without extra cost), and also I don’t like the poor communication.

On the flipside I’m excited about other aspects of the ship.

I am awaiting reports of the first few sailings and will decide from there.

Fortunately we live in Florida. If Ocean Cay isn’t up and running 90 days prior to the sail day, we’ll just cancel and move our Seaside reservation to a future date. Agree, MSC is remiss not notifying existing passengers of this major itinerary change.

  4. MSC Cruises’ private island Ocean Cay Marine Reserve in the Bahamas has been mysteriously removed from all open sailings until March 2019. No specific reason has yet to be given for the change to the original itineraries, but there is speculation that building materials shortages and recent damaging storms throughout the Caribbean may be causing delays in the construction.

Probably will be cancelling our Seaside cruise for 1-5-2019. Really wanted to experience Ocean Cay

  5. I personally would not want to lose $530. I would rather cruise and if I miss St Martin it would give me a reason to book another cruise in the future. I would hope your wife would be happy with whatever you did for her and whatever islands you visit. Happy sailings!!

Hopefully they will be able to receive cruise ships by Spring 2019. Can't imagine any meaningful recovery in less than 18 months. MSC has been building their new private island in the Bahamas for almost 3 years - it's still not open.

  6. We used to visit St Maarten 3 times a year. I would be stunned if any cruise ship returns to St Maarten in less than 12 months for any reason other than the delivery of emergency supplies or the ongoing evacuation of survivors. There is no power, no water, no sewage, no fuel and no food. Their infrastructure is in shambles. The devastation is massive. If Hurricane Marie hits St Maarten as a Cat 3 this week it will be apocalyptic.

  7. Population density of the west coast just doesn't support a large cruise presence, and at least for the time being the Mexican riviera is dangerous. As much as I would love to venture west and cruise, it just doesn't make much business sense? .

The only way more ships are coming back to the West Coast will be if the Chinese build some new islands for us to visit. When the only ports to visit are Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta and and Cabo it just gets too repetitive. Of course, it doesn't help much when the drug gangs are shooting people in the streets of 2 of those ports. Too many better alternatives to home port a billion dollar ship.

  8. Only been on MSC once, but the foods were the highlight of the trip. Their buffet is superior to anything we have experienced on other lines. We loved their MDR but most Of my fellow Americans probably would prefer a quicker and larger meal. We enjoyed the slower pace and the European sized portions and superior quality. Only disappointment was their specialty restaurants; stick to MDR and buffet
