  1. Hi:) All the major car rental firms are represented in Ålesund. Not all of them are within walking distance from the port but I believe they all deliver the cars at the port area.

One of the companies within a 5 minutes walk from the port is Avis.

Its situated at the street Nedre Strandgate. You reach Avis by taking to the left when you get out of the port area. Pass Qualiy Hotel Waterfront to your left and continue walking straight ahead. Avis is opposite the grocerystore "Rema 1000" and next to a petrol station/ 7-11 shop.

Yes, there are lots to see walking around Ålesund. I suppose this entire thread is dedicated to what to do in town;)

Highlights are walking or taking the tourist train to Mt. Aksla for the wonderful views.

Walking around and look at the Art Nouveau architecture.

    Visit the Jugend Museum.

Walk the Apotekergata and look at the small art shops. Stop at the lighthouse for a different view of Ålesund.

Have your picture taken at Brosundet (The bridge)

Have an overpriced lunch or coffee at Cafe Invit:)

By September fall has arrived and remember to dress i layers. It can be cold and wet.

If you have more questions I will try to answer them:)

Thank you! I appreciate it! I think we will walk around, can we walk to Mt. Aksla? We don't mind the 400 steps (as long as I'm not pregnant by then :D )

  2. Please excuse me for jumping in, but I saw that Lars has contributed to this posting, and I owe him an enormous thank you!

Lars, you gave us some advice in 2011 that resulted in one of our most memorable and wonderful travel days ever. We visited Alesund on the HAL Eurodam, and we were flirting with the idea of renting a car and driving out into the countryside. You encouraged us to do that, and even plotted out a route for us which included three ferries (complete with links to the ferry schedules), the Geirangerfjord and the Troll Road. Our day was nothing short of spectacular and it's a day we'll never forget. We would have never done it without your advice and encouragement. I looked for you on Cruise Critic when we returned but you seemed to be taking a break. Anyhow....hope you're reading this now because we are very grateful for your help. A belated but huge thanks from us to you!

:) Thank you very much - this is so very kind of you.

I am thrilled you had such a memorable day and I am happy I could help working out the itinerary for your day.

Lars - we will be in Alesund in September, can you share the details about renting a car?

Also - if we don't plan anything, is there lots to see just wandering around town to shops?

    Thank you in advance! :)

  3. We're booked with Buelah for a hike on Nevis next January. She responded to my e-mails very promptly.

How did you get in touch with her? Directly on her website or via email at info@tourstkittsnevis.com? I don't know if you could tell her that I am trying to get in touch with her for me lol ;) My email is ashleydimauro at hotmail.com My name is the email too.

I did try through the website twice and then I emailed directly last night. As of right now, I don't think my email has gone through yet. I got a Delivery Status Notification (Delay)‏.

  4. I did not get the impression that she lived in England in for any length of time. She grew up there for several years, and I believe her mother is there. Her home is in St. Kitts.

Maybe she had a family emergency and had to go there, but this is their busy time for tourism in St. Kitts, so I don't think it would just be for fun.

I hope you do get a hold of her, as her tour was great.

I just thought I saw it on a post earlier, but might have been mistaken! I do hope I can get in touch with her! :)

  5. This morning I sent off an e-mail to her direct instead of through her web site. We shall see.

    info@tourstkittsnevis.com

I'm not sure if this is a different adress. I may call at

    869 663 2527

    869 466 1820 or perhaps give up.

did you get through?? I decided to try again and email them directly info@tourstkittsnevis.com instead of through their website. I got aDelivery Status Notification (Delay)‏. sigh....hopefully it'll go through eventually! I want to go to a beach dang it!! :p

  6. One possible issue might be the spam filter on your email. I had a similar issue recently where I emailed a different tour operator (Clay Villa) in St Kitts and didn't hear back. I emailed again about a week later to let them know I hadn't heard from them and they emailed me back right away using their personal account with their original response attached (which they had sent promptly following my first email). The first email was from their business account which didn't make it through to my inbox. You might want to touch base again to see if that is the case with your situation.

Thanks, I do check my junk folder regularly and there wasn't anything. It's ok, I figured out other plans that day. Thank you!

  7. Just sent my 3rd request for a tour through her website. Still have not gotten a response.

Starting to wonder if I am going to need alternate plans.:(

Me too! Guess we are going to have to find other options. Maybe she's not living there right now? An earlier post says she lives in UK 6 months and St Kitts 6 months

  8. Highly highly recommend http://www.shareashoreexcursioninitaly.com

The pic is with our driver in Rome. Loved him! :)

Rome tour - We absolutely enjoyed our tour! The driver was amazing & knowledgeable of the sights. It's the best to have a small group and get undivided attention and not hard to keep track of everyone. The Vatican guide was also great & very knowledgeable. We will definitely come back & hopefully have a guide again in the future! 8 hours was not enough to learn all about Rome, but we got a great glimpse into the history! Loved the front of the line tickets! Thank you for providing a great service that is a reasonable cost. The cruise ship's tours are outrageously expensive and a huge bus of people that take forever.

Livorno/Florence tour - We enjoyed this tour as well! The driver was very knowledgeable as well and a great guide. There was so much to see & we got to see the highlights of Florence. Pisa was great, we were there first thing in the morning before the crowds. Also very nice to have a small group & get through the sites faster. Had a few hours to shop in Florence which was great. Definitely recommend seeing the David - having the reservations definitely got us in faster. Thank you again for providing a great service at a low cost!
