  1. I have noticed that Viking is not scheduled to do the In the Wake of the Vikings Itinerary in 2025 or 2026. The September 2024 sailing is not close to being sold out, unlike other 2024 Iceland/British isles itineraries which are practically sold out. Thoughts on why?  It looks like a great trip, what am I missing?

I agree with Andy.  Prepare for the worst, hope for the best...  And the infamous Bay of Biscay is the roughest I ever experienced on a passenger ship.  Including years of North Atlantic crossings.  Baaaaad....🥃

What itinerary was Bay of Biscayne? Thanks for the input!

  3. Having only sailed on very large ships previously, and looking forward to trying Viking, I am eager to hear about which itineraries have the best chances for smooth sailing and which are often a challenge. Currently booked on Neptune for In the Wake of the Vikings and have been a little concerned from some comments here about rough seas during that itinerary. Thank you!

On Mars right now for In the Wake of the Vikings.  Missed Shetland Islands, but made Faroe and both Greenland stops.  If your cruise can't stop in Greenland, you're not missing much.  Nice stop for an hour, but tough to kill more time than that.

    Thanks, I appreciate the insight.

We were on Saturn Iceland to NY Aug. 16. Greenland was one of our top priorities!

First: the absolute highlight of our 2 weeks was Prince Christian Sound: indeed the most spectacular we've seen anywhere. The captain took his time circling and we just soaked in the sheer mountains and glistening glaciers. It was mostly overcast but the rain held off until we reluctantly departed!

We did miss two stops due to rough seas: our first, at the Westman Islands, and L’Anse aux Meadows.

Luckily, we stopped at both Nanortalik and Quaqortoq, tendering to both.

It was drizzling/raining/cold all day at Nanortalik but without wind. Lots of folks walked around carrying Viking's big red umbrellas.

The day started gray and wet in Quaqortoq (so folks with early excursions were very bummed), then turned beautiful. I had a wonderful time walking up and around town for different viewpoints. They are very well set up here for tourists, with locals directing you to key spots with native activities.

I had fretted that I couldn't find good excursions but, really, just walking around the towns and seeing the locals was quite fascinating. Feel free to ping me if you want more info.

My parents are on the Saturn right now, Iceland to NY. They had to cancel their first stop in Iceland (don't ask me the name of the port. LOL!). It was a tender port, I know that. But they did both stops in Greenland. However, for yesterday's port, my parents ended up cancelling their excursion. It was raining pretty hard all day, and while my mom is mobile enough, she has to be a little more careful. I'm sure it just wasn't worth risking a fall/injury as hard as it was raining. They did go into town today where they docked, even though it was raining for part of the day, but not as hard.

Thanks very much for this info. It seems like a canceled port here and there for this itinerary, no matter when the sailing!

My mom just got back from a NYC => Reykjavik voyage on the Neptune. L'Anse aux Meadows was canceled for rough seas, but they made both stops in Greenland. Unfortunately about 12 passengers got Covid about halfway through the voyage. They had to isolate in their staterooms for the rest of the trip.

Thanks so much for this info. Did the canceled port/rough seas make the trip difficult or did they avoid the discomfort to passengers by canceling?

  8. Question about the blackout curtains on the forward Explorer suites. We are sailing on Neptune and I have read that the curtains need to be pulled from sunset to sunrise so as not to interfere with the bridge. Does this include every curtain in cabin, including the ones on the sliding doors to the balcony? Does this mean no going out on the balcony after sunset/before sunrise unless there is complete darkness in the cabin?  Please advise! Thank you!

  9. Has anyone rented the full or half day executive vans through Regent?  Any thoughts about the quality and the ability to really customize your trip and avoid crowds?  According to customer service, all arrangements are made onboard and you talk to your driver for the first time when you meet them for the actual trip.  Would appreciate any feedback or thoughts, am considering this for St. Petersburg.
