  1. We were on the Equinox for the November 30 sailing.  We usually eat in the buffet most evenings, but for this cruise decided to give the MDR a try.  The food and service was excellent.  On one night only I didn't like the main course, but it was my fault not the galley's.  I ordered trout which I had never eaten before and hope never to in the future.  I tried to hide it under whatever was left on the plate hoping the server wouldn't notice as I didn't want to cause a problem.  But sure enough he did and was so apologetic saying I should have asked for something else.  Truthfully, after a Caesar salad, potatoes and broccoli I was full but not full enough to have dessert.  We had absolutely no complaints

  2. I'll be purchasing a smart phone before our 11/30 sailing. Please take pity on a technology challenged individual.  No laughing...I still have a flip so I could use some advice.  I only want to use the phone to contact home once or twice during the 7 days or if there's an emergency.  I noticed Celebrity's site has their Surf Internet Package – Single Device for $116.  Is that the least expensive way to go?  I appreciate any help you can offer.  Thanks.

  3. Thanks all for the input.  I know cool and warm are subjective, so I guess the best way to deal with it is a wrap as suggested or layers.  I'm so looking forward to this trip that I can adjust to anything.  Thanks again.

  4. I'm getting clothes together for a 12/1 cruise on Oosterdam.  In general are the public rooms on the cooler or warmer side?  I don't want to pack evening blouses with long sleeves if I'm going to roast.  Thanks for any input.

  5. We were on the Cozumel Bar Hop a week ago Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our ship docked outside downtown so we had to take an $8 taxi ride and met the tour bus at Carlos and Charlie's. The bus was immaculate, our driver Carlos was very pleasant and the tour guide Colleen was very informative and friendly.

We stopped at 4 bars right on the beach. The first stop had a pool if you wanted to take a dip. The surf is very rough and not recommended for swimming. The complimentary drinks were small, but you could order whatever drinks you wanted and food was also available. The beer was very cold and refreshing. The people in the bars were very friendly and the scenery rustic, but pretty.

If you want to relax at a beach and swim in calm waters, this isn't for you. But if you want a tour that's different and not the same old same old, this is a fun way to see the non-touristy side of Cozumel, have a few drinks and not worry about driving. I'm not a drinker either, but I'd highly recommend this tour.

We're cruising on the NCL Dawn in February and will be in port with 22,000 other cruisers that day! I'm feeling pressured to solidify my plans. I've already cancelled with a private tour company, now I can't decide between Nachi and the Cozumel Bar Hop? We're doing an AI Beach Resort (Almaplena) in Costa Maya and it sounds like you can get some beach time during the Bar Hop too.

I'm not a big drinker, but always enjoy meeting people and would like to see more of the scenery. At the same time, I'm always up for a day at the beach when I can.

Would love to hear about personal experience with either place or if you've done both? I can't make up my mind!

  6. Our first cruise was in the early 70's on the Leonardo da Vinci (the Italian Line) from New York to the Eastern Caribbean in January. It was built in 1960 and was 33,334 gross tons carrying around 1300 people.

Being young without much money to spend on vacations, we had an inside cabin, bunk beds and no porthole. During the first night we hit a terrible storm around Cape Hatteras and I thought we were going to sink. My poor husband was so sea sick I can't believe he ever went on another cruise after that. It took a couple of days to reach calmer waters.

My husband did have a bit of a smile on his face when I told him that the ship caught fire in 1980, sank and was sold for scrap.

  7. Last year on the Westerdam we enjoyed our balcony until we found out the man in the next cabin was a cigar smoker. It made the balcony unusable while he was puffing away. I don't know if it was the same person, but another man was smoking a cigar at the pool. Cigarette smoke is bad enough, but cigars are just too much. If it happens again on the Nieuw Amsterdam, that will be our last HAL cruise.

  8. Upgrade fairy visited yesterday. We booked a VF guarantee on the Nieuw Amsterdam and received an upgrade to VA6179. Will this cabin and verandah be larger?

We're awaiting a cabin assignment on the NA for the 12/1 sailing. We booked a VE. May I ask if you're leaving sooner than that? I'm just curious how far in advance they might make a visit to us. Thanks.
