  1. This is very helpful. We have a D1 cabin on deck 10 and it has the triangle for the room. Odds are we will have the sofa by the balcony. I don't mind having the sofa by the balcony. All the cabins we've ever been in has had the sofa by the balcony. I'll report back after the cruise on what our cabin configuration is.

I think it finally sunk in. Any cabin with the ^ (That's supposed to be a triangle) has a sofa bed. Other cabins have a sofa but without a bed built in. All cabins with a sofa bed have the main bed by the closet and the sofa bed by the balcony. All cabins connecting to those have the sofa at the closet and the bed by the balcony. Not all cabins that have a sofa by balcony have a bed in the sofa but to locate them simply find a balcony room with a ^ then move every other cabin for sofa by the balcony. For cabins with the bed by the balcony move one cabin either direction then every other cabin after is that configuration. Do I have that right?
  2. Enjoying your review.

I don't want this to turn into a flame war or a question of whether I am "Stiffing" the staff. She will still get the basic gratuity, but with the couple of mistakes that should have been avoided, I am wondering what people think.

No flaming here. She's getting the recommended gratuity amount, anything above that is at your discretion. If that person isn't going above your expectations you shouldn't have to tip her more.

  3. My directions from MA. (Saw these posted and was excited since its close to my house. I'll catch the Mass Pike in Millbury or Auburn.

    Directions to NJ

I495 to I290 through Worcester to the Mass Pike in Auburn. Go one exit west to Sturbridge to pick up I84 west to I91 south in Hartford (Charter Oak Bridge exit). On I91 take exit 17 marked W Cross Parkway. This becomes the Merritt Parkway at Milford.

The Merritt Pkwy becomes the Hutchinson River Pkwy at the NY/CT line. From the Hutch take exit 15 in New Rochelle to get on the Cross County Pkwy. Stay in the middle left lane, which will become the left lane when the road "scrunches". This leads onto the Saw Mill River Pkwy South which becomes the Henry Hudson Pkwy at the NYC line ($5 toll - if no EZPass they will bill you in the mail and you need to pay it!). The toll is worth every penny.

You take the George Washington Bridge exit - left exit - stay in right lane to get on the ramp that up goes and around directly onto the bridge. On the bridge slide over to the middle left lane. Follow the NJ Turnpike signs. When you get on the turnpike, follow the first set of Lincoln Tunnel signs to get on the eastern spur of the turnpike, but don't get off at the actual tunnel exit. Continue on to Exit 13A

My plan is to try to park at the port even though it will cost a bit more, but figure the convenience of being so close outweighs the cost.

I haven't worked out driving back to MA yet. I figured it would just be the opposite way I came.

Thank you. I guess I'll need to watch the signs really well when we drive to the port. I don't want to drive in circles. NJ isn't known as the jersey state for nothing.

  4. I'm excited Port Canaveral has a ship sailing from there. Nice to have 2 ports to choose from now.

My Oasis cruise in April 2017 is stopping in St. Thomas, but no private island stops. :(

Oasis in Fall of 2017 is going to stop at Labadee for Eastern and Western voyages. That's an improvement over no private island on eastern trips.

    No St Thomas though :(

  5. I hope someone can help me. We are driving from MA and staying at either the Embassy Suites or Country Inn Suites, both in Elizabethtown, NJ). Is the road from these hotels to the port easy to get to?

Have they finished up all the road construction that was going on to get into the port from the highway? I've read from the hotel descriptions that it is easy to get to the port but not sure if that's true or not. Is it easy to get there, easy signs to follow? Should I consider leaving my vehicle at the hotel and take advantage of their shuttle?

We will have at least a 3 1/2 drive back home so I am trying to avoid hitting all the major traffic on Thanksgiving weekend when we get off the Anthem.

I've printed out the directions some have posted in previous posts but that was awhile back.

  6. I just booked the very last cabin on deck 10 on the Allure for 2018. Though it will be my first time on the Allure, it will be my 4th time on the Oasis class. All the times we've walked the Boardwalk (day and night) we've never found it noisy. I like the idea that I'll be able to see the ocean from our cabin and watch the diving show from our balcony. Plus, I wanted to change it up a bit from staying in the Central Park which is another of our favorite areas to stay.

  7. We just did a B2B on the Dream in January. There were a lot of kids on both cruises. I'd make sure to have him go to the meet and great so he can meet up with others. Even if he doesn't want to do attend the kids area, there's still plenty of things to do. He will more likely make friends on a longer cruise than the shorter ones though since he would be running into the kids daily.

January's weather can be unpredictable. One day we had great weather at one port, next one it was cold. Next time through, we had great weather at the port that was cold and rainy weather at the other.

  8. I am looking to try the Comfort Suites to take advantage of the Atlantis passes for my next trip.

How do you book the room? Do you book a room like it is an overnight stay?

What is the earliest they allow you to check in? My ship will be docking around 9:30.

Approximately how much is the taxi cab ride to the hotel?

I can book a room for $460 through Expedia, the cruise line wants to charge $701 for 4 for Atlantis, that's a big savings.

    TIA

  9. Orlando Airport is a busy airport, the line going through security can be very long so I would definitely give yourself at least 2 hours to get through. Last year when I went through the airport, the line for security was long and I got concerned we could miss our flight.

I am researching things for my future cruise out of Port Canaveral so I don't haven't done this yet but it's based on what I've read.

You could rent a car and visit the Kennedy Space Station.

Or try the search feature and search for day rooms. You might be able to find some suggestions.

  10. Price doesn't always go down. I got a great deal on my November cruise booking it almost 11 months early. I just checked and my cabin type is no longer available and a guarantee cabin is almost $600 more with less than 30 days to go.

I always book early to get the cabin type I want and all my cruises prices have only gone up.

  11. Happy you are enjoying the review. I see we are on the same Disney sailing in January. Are you doing the Castaway Cay Challenge along with Marathon weekend at WDW?

I booked the cruise before they added the Castaway Cay challenge to it. We are spending a few days at Disney before the cruise also. (Had Disney vacations points I needed to use). I have some friends running at Disney so I might go cheer them on. I can't imagine running now. Haven't decided if I'll do the challenge this cruise or the one after it, most I'll do is walk most of it. My daughter said she'd do one.

  12. The best times we've cruised has been November/early December. Our very first cruise was a 5 day, first week of December. It was our first cruise, so it was a nice way to introduce ourselves to cruising. We got hooked. Our last cruise was the week before Thanksgiving, we are doing the same week this year but a longer cruise.
