  1. Luggage storage is genius! I think that is what we are going to do! How far is this one from the Seabourn port? I'm assuming this is safe. It's only 1 minute from the airport shuttle which will be convenient the next morning.

  2. Can we take the water bus from the Seabourn port to a hotel in St. Mark's square with luggage? And does anyone know how much it is? Also, can we take it back to a point where we can take a taxi to the airport the next morning (early - around 7ish)?

  3. Yes, I meant St. Mark's Square in Venice. We really want to stay in the center of Venice and not in Piazzale Roma. Is it going to be a pain to get our luggage to a hotel in St. Mark's Square without spending a lot of money. The hotel quoted 195 euros for each way (from the port to the hotel and then to the airport the next day) which is over $400 and almost as more than the hotel. Any other ways to get to St. Mark's square from the port and then to the airport the next morning and approximate costs?

  4. At this point, I would use the MC and Visa cards you have. If you charge $1,000 you'll lose $30 in fees. No hassles and the route you are taking, no problem with CC acceptance. Changing currency is going to cost more than you need to spend in time, aggravation and cash. There are plenty of credit cards offering no foreign transaction fees......for those not cutting it so close.

Thank you. Agreed, the transaction fee is pretty minimal (3%). Next time I will arrange to get a no fee card. We will take a little cash for places that don't take cards. THanks for the information everyone! :)

  5. I recommend sending an email to the concierge at your hotel to see what they can offer you. Will you be there during the Grand Prix? If so, give yourself extra time to get to the airport which is normally less than 30 minutes.

Another tip, if the transfer from the ship to the hotel offers a bottle of water, take it with you to the hotel. Those little bottles of water will cost you 6€ at some of the hotels in MC (SBM group). The transfer to the hotel will be only 5-10 minutes.

Thank you for this information!!! It is helpful. We will take some water bottles off the ship. And I do think the day we need to leave for the airport it the Grand Prix. :( I sent the hotel an email asking about transportation but so far drivers.com seems to be what we will most likely go with. Friends in France does not do the transfer from the cruise port to the hotel. THANKS EVERYONE!!! :)

  6. Agree it is worthwhile sourcing card/s which do not have the 3% ftf. I use Citi debit and 28degrees CC and almost get the XE rate of exchange. The Citi to withdraw cash and the 28deg for CC use. Have saved paying the bank the 3% every O/S trip ... well worth it.

Where do you get these and how long does it take? We are leaving next Tuesday.

  7. Not too important about the Mercedes but would like a nice/higher end car. Friends in France didn't have a good site to customize the trip. It just gave standard rates from the Nice hotel to certain parts of France and Italy. Maybe they have contact information that I could ask them directly.

  8. What is the best option for spending money when off the ship? We are sailing Barcelona to Monte Carlo and know that we would like to have drinks/lunches at some of the ports when we are off the ship. Prepaid credit card (3% foreign transaction fee); cash; Travelers checks (do they even have these anymore? LOL)......

    Thank you for your replies..

  9. Hello all,

We are scheduled to cruise with Seabourn from Barcelona to Monte Carlo next week. We will be staying in Monte Carlo for one night after the cruise. We need to get from Monte Carlo to the Nice airport the next day. We priced the transfer with Seabourn (they call it own hotel transfer) which takes us from the ship to our hotel in Monte Carlo (Columbus - Monte Carlo) May 16th and then a pick-up at our hotel the next day - May 17th - take us to the Nice airport. It was $430 for both of us. Doesn't seem too bad considering it's a private transfer and it's through Seabourn (we have Seabourn air) so it will be more reliable.

But.....I'm checking to get feedback if there are any other cheaper options. I wouldn't know where to even begin to think of other options.

Thank you in advance for your advice. :)

  10. We did want to see some of Barcelona but didn't want to carry suitcases around. I would love to have a nice lunch and glass of wine on the ship but also want to see Barcelona a bit. Decisions-Decisions #firstworldcountryproblems :'). Maybe we will go straight to the ship, have lunch and get off the ship for a little bit to explore.
