  1. We were on the February 23 - March 1 sailing on Edge. When we boarded, all they did was look at our passport photo page. I asked if they were flipping through the passport to check for stamps to see what countries people had recently traveled to. They said no, they were just asking if anyone had traveled to those countries recently. So it was all based on the honors system, nothing was actually being checked. I hope they are being stricter now than they were then.

I haven't been to the "new" Coco Cay", and am considering a short voyage that stops twice at the island. I've searched on "Coco Cay" to try to find a post that will give me a complete rundown of what there is to do there, best activities and food, best place to relax, etc. I can't seem to find such a post. If you know of a place where I can read an excellent review/summary, I would appreciate it if you could please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Would you mind posting which cruise you are looking at that has 2 stops at Coco Cay? It's been a couple of years since we've been there and would like to go back.

  3. The use of balcony when in port only information was actually from the Costco Travel website. M105 and M106 on their deck plans both have icons that the key indicates.

  4. Thank you for the suggestions. I don't think we want to pay extra for the Club Class, as we want to stay within a certain budget. I thought when we looked at the front ones on the Marina deck, there was a note that you could only use the balconies when the ship is in port? What about C417 or C423 on deck 10, the Caribe deck? Is there a certain side of the ship, port or starboard that allows smoking on the open air decks, like Clebrity does? We like to avoid booking a cabin on the outdoor smoking side.

  5. We are considering booking our first ever Princess cruise in a mini-suite on the Regal Princess, and wondered where the best cabin locations would be. We are long time Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruisers, and don't know much about Princess at all. My husband wants to start trying other cruise lines and this cruise works well as far as ports, sail week, and price. We usually book starboard on X ships so we don't get any smoke drifting on our balcony. Thanks for any information, we will have to decide soon.

  6. In February, we were on the Edge in an S2 sky suite. We loved our cabin. Glad to see the rockers were all taken off the ship and sent back to the vendor (they were taking up too much space and were obstacles for people). We were told that they do read/monitor cruise critic and were listening to the feedback. The cabin could use a cocktail or other table in front of the sofa (now it is just a small round cylinder -not very useful) and the balcony table is much to small to even think of eating a meal off of.

We really enjoyed the retreat sundeck area and lounge. Around the ship, there were a lot of venues with ample seating - Eden, Martini Bar, Rooftop, etc. What we did notice was some areas felt more enclosed. We missed the soaring spaces of the S Class ships. The merchandise in the shops was not to our liking. Most of the shops sold jewelry and not much else. Restrooms were an issue. A lot of areas had a single restroom (Retreat, Luminae, near the Martini Bar). When there was a ladies restroom with multiple stalls, it was impossible to tell when they were occupied. Definitely a learning curve with the technology in the bathrooms which at times malfunctioned.

We were traveling with friends and had booked this cruise over two years ago when cabins first opened up. We were taking an informal poll while we were on-board and a lot of people had booked when we did and got cabins at a much lower cost than what they are currently going for. We will most likely not be sailing on Edge again in the near future at those prices, and most people we spoke with said the same thing. So it will be interesting to see if prices come down once the backlog of first-in bookings passengers clears.

  7. We were emailed an upgrade offer on a cruise we took in February 2018. The way it worked was someone from Celebrity's pre-cruise concierge desk chose the people to offer the upgrade to. We are elite, and the way the process worked was the first person responding to the email got the first pick of available upgrades. Our choices were Celebrity suite, Royal suite, or Penthouse suite. We were originally booked in a sky suite, and chose to upgrade to the Penthouse suite for $1500 total for a one week cruise. We asked and were told we would receive points based on what we had originally booked, a sky suite, We were also told that only people who booked directly through Celebrity, not through a travel agent were offered upgrades.

Now that they have switched to the Move-up program, there probably will be no need to spend time sending emails or phone calls to selected guests trying to up sell empty cabins. Probably a more efficient move on their part, and the bidding process will give them valuable information on what people are willing to pay for the various categories.

  8. Thank you. In the meantime, I decided to send them a message via Facebook and this was their response:

Hello there, Thank you for your inquiry. We are pleased that you are considering visiting our resort while you are here. We do indeed offer a day pass at a charge of US$280.00 per person (including service charge and VAT). The pass includes return transfers to the port, a two-course lunch and soft drinks, along with access to the resort pools and the beach. If you are interested in making the booking, please contact our concierge team at: concierge.skbph@hyatt.com Warm Regards!

In case anyone else is interested. We have decided to spend the day elsewhere.

  9. I'm not a fan of the minimalist design approach. In my opinion, function should always be the most important part of good design, not a room that just looks good. Cruisers want comfortable furniture and storage space. What good is that desk and chair design with a mirror that is so high you can't see to blow dry or flat iron your hair when sitting in the chair? The bathroom outlets generally can't be used for those functions. Also agree with other comments about open shelf space - just not practical. Nightstands that you can't even fit a magazine in. I already bring collapsible fabric bins and a shoe bag for storage on S class ships because of the lack of storage space.

  10. I was told that it did, but who knows the real answer as there is so little information...

You are so right! So maybe it does... she could have been in an S3. I looked at renderings of the outside of the ship someone else posted and those balconies where the magic carpet slides down (S3's) look like they have the traditional sliding doors.

  11. Booked a side S2 on deck 10 for $2899 per person (cruise fare only) for the February 10 sailing. From Celebrity's Facebook page, the innovation lab video where the host is standing in a "sky suite", it appears that the sky suites don't have the french door infinity balcony, but the usual sliding door balcony. I would have thought the sky suites would have the more innovative balcony as well... does anyone know if this is correct?

  12. Front bed was great with eggcrate. Bring eye shades, it was not completely dark, some railing lights were on and even the crew member who came to check couldn't figure out how to turn them off. Also when docked the maritime light is on up front. We stuck it out all night and watched the sun rise. Hubby went and fetched coffee from TOY and they would have brought breakfast but we went back to the cabin before that could happen.

  13. Wow, that sucks. If we all played that game there would be no cabins to book. I suppose in the end it is the cruise ship that loses as it now has JS and suites that it can't sell because no one wants to pay big bucks right before sail time. Maybe the balcony/ JS cruisers win if the upgrade fairy comes calling to fill those empty rooms. I guess if you can't beat 'em, join 'em and start reserving...

We leave on a four night Bahamas cruise in little over a week and just got a call from Royal Caribbean today asking if we wanted to upgrade to a Grand Suite (we were booked in a JS) for $200. We said yes! My husband took the call and apparently there were several GS open. Rep didn't say why but it was his job to fill them.

  14. Sorry I haven't checked back here in awhile. I'm glad the review was enjoyable and helpful to others. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our SeaDream cruise. We definitely plan to sail again on SeaDream II, would like to try the Caribbean next time, and would love to someday meet some of the regulars on this board (Hum and cohorts!). Thanks Hum for remembering!
