  1. Just returned from a June 2-9 sailing on Serenade of the Seas with two nights pre-crusie in Copenhagen.  Many thanks to Danish Viking and others who answered my pre-crusie questions and gave some excellent advice and recommendations. Train from airport to Central Station couldn't have been easier.  Attendants at the ticket machines were very helpful. We purchased 24 hour  city pass small which came in handy as we also used the bus a few times. Anderson Hotel was everything we needed and very centrally located for our needs - less than 10 minute walk to Tivoli and close to the start of our bike tour - which we greatly enjoyed. Used airport ATM to get a few Krona and the exchange rate was spot on - I noticed if you requested euro that the exchange rate was poor.  We were concerned about a 10:40 am return flight with our ship docking at 7 am, but had no problem.  We were off the ship and in a taxi by 7:13 and were at the airport within 30 minutes.  Cost of taxi was $74.  FYI - we were on a British Airways flight and actually had to wait over an hour at the check-in counter for it to open as they do not open until 2 hours before flight.  Two Security checks - little wait at either despite numerous passengers in line. Overall great experience and absolutely loved Copenhagen!

  2. Was on  Serenade June 2-9 out of Copenhagen and the order form to stock empty minibar fridge was in the room when we arrived.  Wish I had known this option was available and the prices as we lugged onboard some diet sodas and a few waters (we opted not to get a beverage package).  I didn't think the prices to stock were bad considering what we paid in Copenhagen to  purchase sodas and waters to take on the ship.

    1) I haven't heard about this one but their Bamers Gryde and Vesterhavsrødspætte looks wonderful.

Also their reviews on Google are rather good.

But else you have some options in nearby Tivoli as well but you then have to add the entrance fee.

    2) my best option would be the baggage claim area.

There are lots of benches to sit down and there is a 7/Eleven to get a coffew or a snack while you are waiting.

    3) expect around 30-35 minutes.

Thank you so much Danish Viking for your assistance and  the menu suggestions 🙂

  4. Thanks in advance for all of the contributions to this Board.  Is making me very comfortable with our upcoming trip.

A few more questions regarding our June 2 sailing on Serenade of the Seas returning June 9 that.

    1) we are arriving Copenhagen two days early and staying at the Anderson Boutique Hotel  We are looking for a restaurant for dinner close to our hotel with local food. We are considering  Frk. Bamers Kaelder .  Any thoughts on this restaurant ?  Other suggestions near our hotel for a Danish dinner?

    2) Upon arrival we are meeting friends at CPH airport.  We are scheduled to arrive 30 mins earlier on British Air.  Friends will be arriving on Icelandair.  Any suggestions where best to meet?  Baggage Claim?  Gate?  Passport/customs?

    3) Danish Viking previously let us know that our ship will be first arriving at  Oceankaj terminal on June 9 (scheduled for 7 am).  Assuming we are off by 8 am and not too long a line to get a taxi, how long a ride to airport can we expect on a Sunday morning?

    Happy cruising to all!

  5. Hello Danish Viking - do you have any insight on the Anderson Boutique Hotel?  We will be in Copenhagen for 2 nights before  our cruise and wondered if this might be a decent and convenient hotel for touring the City

Also, when we disembark on Sunday June 9 around 7:30-8:00 am we need to get to the airport as soon as possible.  Can we expect to find taxis at the pier (oceankaj) or should we pre-arrange a ride - will be 4 adults?

    Thank you!

  6. I'd recommend booking ahead. If you need to change or cancel you can always do so on the ship. We books ahead for Cagney and La Cucina. On 4th day of the cruise we booked Le Bistro for night 6. Only had 9 pm left sitting but worked fine for us. Personally I thought all 3 were excellent but if I had to pick one to return to I'd probably pick La Cucina - I love italian! But if you are a steak lover then go for Cagney's where I had the Tomahawk Chop - a huge bone-in rib-eye...awesome!

  7. Just returned from a Northbound Alaska cruise on the Sun. I thought I'd post a few observations/comments. We had a balcony stateroom 10245 with UBP and 3 Speciality Dining nights.

    - The UBP worked great for us. No problem getting drinks as it appeared most cruisers also had the UBP. Staff was quick to point out if our order was going to exceed the $15 per drink limit (we simply switched our order as plenty of options covered by the plan). Likely drank more than we would have had to pay by the drink. Also had free drink card for casino which only came in handy to get bottle water and energy drinks - which are not covered by the UBP. We took advantage and would often grab bottled water from casino bar to take to our room

    - As previously reported, Stateroom shower is small, but we had no issue with shower curtain not sticking to shower walls - water state din shower and didn't go onto bathroom floor. We also thought the shower water pressure and temperature was better than any other cruise ship we have been on (about 8-10 prior cruises on various lines, including 1 prior NCL cruise).

    - Bathroom hair dryer almost useless. Was the vacuum hose wall mounted type of dryer. Required drying hair in bathroom as hose very short.

    - only 1 plug to plug in our 'devices' to charge but luckily brought an extension cord to give us multiple plug-ins.

    - Sewage smell that has been reported was noticeable in aft portion of ship on first few days of cruise. At one point on day 3 had the smell briefly in our room. Couldn't tie the smell to time of day but usually seemed to appear when ship was docked.

    - Food quality and portions were much better than we expected based on reviews we had read. We never ate dinner at buffet - only did buffet once for lunch and twice for breakfast.

    - Speciality dining was, in our opinion, excellent. Ate at La Cucina (Italian), Cagney's (Steak) and Le Bistro (French). Toss up as to which was best. Saved $7-$15 per meal with dining package at Cagney's and Le Bistro over cost of a la carte ordering.

    - Our observations were that the ship was in pretty good condition. Obviously not a new ship but nothing terribly worn.

Would not hesitate cruising again with NCL or on the Sun.

  8. Just returned from the Sun so can answer my own questions. One Craps table with 3/4/5 odds; 3 to 4 BJ tables with 3/2 BJ pay only on $25 tables. Other lower limits were 6/5; Other table games: 3 card poker, Texas Hold'Em, Baccarat, Roulette. Casino staff was pretty friendly - have had better/have had worse. Craps dealers pretty inexperienced so had to watch their payoff and placement of bets - pit bosses did a good job keeping up with the dealers and quickly corrected any issues. Didn't seem like I accumulate many points on table games - even when playing $25 BJ.

  9. Will be on the Sun next week on a CET free (LOL) cruise offer and looking for some info as to the Sun's casino. What are the behind the line odds you can take on craps? Does BJ pay 6-5 or 3-2 on $25 tables? What about BJ payoff on lower limits? Any idea how many craps, BJ tables? What other table games ? 3- Card? Pai Gow? Thanks in advance for the help!

  10. Looking at an August 10 tour by float plane to POW for bear watching. Tour description says we will get off plane and walk on island to see bears (not stand on floats). Are chances to see bear this date as good or better than going to Misty Fjords? If anyone has done this type tour on POW where to get out and walk I'd appreciate you sharing your experiences.

  11. We were advised today that the second leg of our return from PPT was changed as 3 hours was required between connecting flights at LAX. (Original flight had only 2 hours) Perhaps that is why the OP's flight was changed.

  12. Has anyone come back from a Western Med cruise embarking and debarking in Rome yet? I'd love to know how it was - especially debarking. We'll be catching the train to head for Venice - how quickly did you exit?

Any other hints would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Vic

Vic - I'm also interested in the response as we board in Rome June 13. In planning our return to the airport on the 20th I noticed that Epic has excursions for Rome that are to start as early as 7:30 am. We plan to carry our luggage off so we are counting on being able to get off the ship by 7:30 am. Hopefully this will work.

I'm also interested in what day on this 7 day itinerary they will have the laundry special of a set price for a full bag of laundry. If it is Wednesday as some have spectulated it will be the day we board the ship and not sure if we will be able to take advantage of this based on when we will be boarding - we have several days in Rome before the cruise so laundry will be starting to pile up :)

  13. Leaving next Sunday on Conquest. Driving in Sunday from DFW with with another family and doubtful we will get to Port check-in before 11 am. Trying to determine if anyone has any recent experience as the worst times to arrive for check-in??? I figure arriving 12-1 much longer lines than say 2 pm, but just wondering what fellow cruisers out of Galveston have experienced...
