Took our 7th Carnival cruise on 12/18 on the Valor out of New Orleans. It has been 5 years since our last Carnival cruise. We had a good time (excellent service, boat was nice, excursions fun) but the food was just awful. I have been on a diet, and I weighed the day I left and they day I got back and I lost 1/2lb over the 5 day cruise.

    • Same cookies every night (overcooked chocolate chip, a sandy, double chocolate at the deli). The cookies were BAD. I have 3 kids (6,11,16) and only one would eat the cookies and the other two are the sugar addicts and said they were horrible.  One night they had brownies at the dining room for desert, and two kids ordered them, ate one bite, and asked if they could have something else. The brownies looked like dry crumbly cake.
    • All of the food was super bland. No flavor, no salt. Upon reflection, my wife and decided that dinner at a local cafeteria would have been a better option than the food offered at the dining room and Lido on every night.
    • The Lido buffet was the exact same food as the dining room every night, just served in pans. Its been 5 years, but I don't recall this ever being the case before.
    • The specialty dining options were all pretty good (Guys burgers were great, Deli was good, Seafood was good, Steakhouse was very good but not great), but there are only so many times you can eat them before they get old with the same menu all the time.

The staff was wonderful. It seemed like everyone was very appreciative to be back at work. The food quality was just very subpar, and very disappointing; so much so that I doubt we will do Carnival again unless I see evidence on the boards that their food gets a big upgrade.

I agree, Carnival has changed and not for the better.  They want you to now pay and go to the specialty restaurants for the better food.

    Dear rinakop,

Im sincerely sorry that you have trouble reaching someone with lufthansa. This has been a big problem since the pandemic started.

As steamboat has mentioned already there‘s different fares that may or may not allow an advance reservation.
The online check in usually is still a very good chance to get a good seat. For economy class passengers it opens 23 hours before departure. Be on time.

Depending on the booking figures upgrades may be offered during check-in or even at the gate.

About your onboard experience these days: Dinner and a light meal/sandwich before landing are served. There‘s only one round of beverages per service, so order everything you desire at once, Beer and wine are still included. Outside service there‘s bottled water available.

Surgical or FFP2/KN95 masks are required during the flights and in Frankfurt/Munich Terminal.

May I ask which flight you are booked on?

We have the same issue.   The issue I find is that we will be at sea 23 hours before, so we cant check in.

    Not happy.

Has nothing to do with NCL. No need to call them.

The OP says that they were looking at schedules posted by local port authorities. You could have told the OP to call the port of Dubrovnik in Croatia and complain that they have not updated their online schedule.

None of the ports show up for any of the itinerary

  4. Heard through a friends TA that you may be required to pay for your own testing while leaving or coming back on board the ship at ports.

    Anyone heard this?

She has an offer of 6 tests for $150 which you self administer.

I have 2 days before final payment for our Italy / Greece trip  and we are both vaccinated.

  5. Love the Lido, never had a noise issue. We have been close to the bulkhead door and further toward the front, never had an issue.

Love being close to the pool and food, especially late night.

Only issue is when you are at lower levels, everyone is going up to your deck.

    Elevators are more crowded.

Go for it, you will love it.

  6. We booked Catalonia Barcelona Plaza Hotel and are now reading some bad reviews, like someone went through their bags while in their room.

Anyone have history or knowledge of this hotel.

We got a great price and it is sold out, and we can cancel if needed.

Feeling concerned since this is our first time in Spain.

  7. Group, this is our first time going to Europe. We always did the formal thing on our Caribbean cruises, but there is no itinerary for this cruise since this is a first for Carnival.

The question is luggage space, should we waste valuable space for a formal night?

I know this is a personal preference, but I need the tie breaker, wife says no, I say yes.

  8. I did not have an AMEX card. So I applied and received a large line and $250 off $1000 in first three months.

Here's my question, I have a large balance due on my cruise, $3900. If I make a payment when I get my card of $1000, I get $250. If I wait a month or two and make another payment, would I get the $100 offer too?

    Not greedy, just wise.

  9. I haven't sailed in a while, but I remember contacting the casino for carnival, as I spend a lot of time there, and they sent a perk to my room.

Does anyone know if they still do that? If so how do I contact them?

  10. I will tell you everyone perspective is different. We had a horrible time on our one and only NCL cruise. We were with another couple who cruise NCL religiously. They too stated it was the cruise from hell. While free drink package is great, if you cannot get a drink what's the difference. This was a smaller ship and they were short staffed.

While I love Carnival, I don't know if I will try a larger ship on NCL.

    Just my pennies worth.
