  1. Thank you HappyCampers3!!! Tough crowd out there. Don't know why they are so angry...they were new to CC at one point.

Galvestoncruise, unfortunately Cruise Critic is nothing like it used to be. Hardly ever saw these harsh power struggles in the past and everyone was very helpful. Roll calls used to be quite active with many participating. I have not only witnessed the drama here, but have seen it first hand at some of the onboard Meet & Mingles. God forbid you win more than one key chain at the Meet & Mingle giveaway...haha. I think many have found other ways to communicate, in an environment where aggression is frowned upon. I occasionally drop by CC looking for an answer to something, or randomly read the boards, in hope of learning something new...but have found the behaviors to only get worse. As a newbie, don’t give up completely. Just know that no matter what, there will be times that no matter what you say, you’re sure to be criticized.

  2. Empress, like sovereign class ships, has NO balcony cabin categories. The categories skip from ocean view straight to Junior Suite. JS are more like balcony cabins on other ships, but are the only way to get a balcony without paying for a full suite.

You can learn this sort of thing through research.

  3. I knew it was a 12 year old thread, and RCCL is still selling this same room as a junior suite. I'm not on CC enough but obviously I should be! Thanks for your honest replies.

Had you not searched for this thread to contribute your similar experience, as suggested by Cruise Critic, and you started a new, similar thread, you would have also been flamed. No matter what, you’ll never avoid the powers comments. If reviving an old thread was not proper, than threads should be deleted after a set amount of time. I would have felt the same as you had I walked into that junior suite.

  4. We were there last October when they were beginning construction on the World Cup facilities and there were a few of the yachts practicing. It was really something to see. Would love to be sitting on a balcony facing the races! Would truly be a once in a lifetime experience!

  5. We have flown international flights in the past, with no issues. We were recently scheduled to fly Icelandair on a return flight from Europe to USA. Received last minute call from Icelandair saying they moved us to a SAS flight. NEVER again will I fly SAS. We had the smallest seats ever, extremely uncomfortable (we are not overweight people), flight attendants were rude, as were some of the passengers, and the food was horrible. Worst flight ever and as I said before, NEVER again. In my opinion SAS translates to Suck Ass Service.

  6. Fort Lauderdale hotels (including the Embassy Suites) don't shuttle to Port of Miami - it's too far and takes too long. Go with a shuttle company, taxi, Uber or a limo service.

I stayed at Embassy Suites this past April and was told they do shuttle to the Port of Miami for a $. Always best to contact the hotel directly, as well as shop around for other options.

  7. We experienced this on our Explorer repo about 18 months ago. It was unbearable. Then again last Spring on the Grandeur. Our waiter was very passive aggressive about it...it got to the point I felt harassed. I hadn't eaten dinner in the Windjammer in all our 15 cruises but I was so relieved when we started eating dinner there towards the end of our cruise last Spring. I felt like I had to go to the Windjammer for relief from being harassed.

  8. We typically take both US dollars, for gambling and crew tips on the ship, and purchase Euros through our bank to spend on tours and while in port (we like smaller, private tours over the ship's excursions).

If you will book mostly the ship's excursions, you probably won't need to convert too much money.

When cruising in and out of Europe, wouldn't the crew prefer to receive (extra cash) tips in euros, so they can spend when they get off the ship in ports? Extra cash tipping in US dollars wouldn't do them much good if they will be sailing in and out of Europe for several months?

We are doing a repo/transatlantic from US to Europe, then doing their first European round trip as a B2B. Should we plan to tip (extra) in euros the entire time?
