  1. We are going to be in Dubrovnik the 1st week of Sept and looking for a possible tour. Looking through the site it seems that most will do an Old City tour/ Game of Thrones tour. Would you recommend a guide to do these or is it something you can manage on your own? Will be in port for 13 hours, so have plenty of time to possibly explore other things. Any insights or suggestions are appreciated. TIA

  2. We also used Milos tours posted in this thread. He was excellent and a highlight of our trip. He took us all around Kotor with some beautiful views and a stop at a family run farm where we tried different brandies, wine smoked ham, cheese bread and locally grown tomatoes. The hospitality of the family could not be beat - 3 generations making everything from brandies to honey. Milo also gave us very interesting information on Kotor. I highly recommend him if you are visiting the area.

We also used Milos tours, and our experience was exactly the same, the lunch stop was fantastic and only 3.5eu for a sandwich and beer, wine or soda!

  3. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately we will be arriving day of departure, but we will be exploring the city with as much time as we can, we are scheduled to arrive at around 9am. As we are on this cruise for 3 weeks, and have an embarkation port in Rome and Athens ,does anyone know if you must attend the lifeboat drills in those ports also? Or do they know you have already done them?

  4. We used ALLA tours after some intense research on here and the web. We had a GREAT tour and guide. Our guides name was Elena and we were on the St Petes Grand Tour. She spoke english extremely well, ( we met up with another Alla tour on a boat ride portion, and we overheard someone in that group remark how well she spoke, without a thick Russian accent. Apparently their guide did) we were also impressed by the depth of her knowledge, from the places we went to the works of art we saw, she would always be able to answer our questions.

My only complaint and I hesitate to call it that, is you seem to be rushed. St Pete's is not a place to do in 2 days, but we had a great tour and were able to see everything on the itinerary in spite of the fact of having MAJOR traffic problems on our 2nd day, due to the blocking of roads in the downtown area with the Russian PM in town. Our driver, with the help of our guide somehow got us around it. We heard later that many others did not see all their destinations due to this, especially if you were on the larger full size buses.

We were in smaller van sized buses, that are limited to 18 people and our group was only 15, this smaller sized group is easier to stick together, especially in some of the places you visit were there are hundreds of people around, Hermitage, Peterhof, any of the churches, Catherine Palace.

  5. We just got back from our trip 8/15 to 8/30. The weather was nearly overcast everyday, had one or two days that were mostly to partly sunny, with 1 or 2 days where we had sprinkles for a few minutes, with temps from 60 to 65. While this may sound cool to some, the conditions were ideal for walking in what I think is a walk intensive itinerary of ports. I don't know about weather earlier in the summer, but from talking to the locals at all the ports, weather in in Baltic's can be a little unpredictable.

  6. We just got back from our Baltic cruise last week. While not technically downtown, we stayed at the ABSALON, great hotel with nice helpful and friendly staff, and a great breakfast buffet is included! While the weather was cool enough not to have the a/c on, we did use it. I chose this hotel for the fact that it did and had a great location. An easy 2 block walk from the Central train station and convenient bus stops. Tivoli gardens is also across the street from the station on the other side.

  7. We are going to be docking in Nynashamm on Aug 28th. We will be in port @ 7am till & 7pm. What is the best way to get into Stockholm from there? Train, bus or combination of the two? Don't want to use the ships transportation as that seems quite expensive from what I'm reading.

If we could get there by 9-10 am, is seeing the Vasa museum and Gamla Stan doable and getting back to the ship on time? The 28th is a Sunday do they have limited schedules on the weekends?

Thank you for taking the time to answer all of these ???????

  8. We had never been to Jamaica before, so I came to CC to see what we could see and do. After reading the reviews here and on TA we booked with Ricardo and Liberty Tours. He took us to Secret Falls, Scotchies for lunch, and then a little shopping. We had a blast! Felt like a kid again jumping and diving into the water although my body told me later that I'm much, much older than a kid:)

Ricardo was great to deal with, from the time I emailed him, to a follow up phone call by him to meeting him on the pier. Thanks Ricardo, when we get back here we will book with you again.

  9. Thanks for the replies so far. We are very flexible in time to go, what months would you recommend to visit this area? Would a March/April/May be better? Or Sept/Oct/Nov? The land portion of the trip is 12 days, so this part seems to be in agreement with what you recommend. This will be the once in a lifetime trip, so we want to get it right and see as much as we can!

  10. We are thinking of doing a cruise tour ( Princess Diamond ) in Jan/Feb of 2015. The tour portion is of AUS and has us going from Sydney to Ayers Rock to Darwin to Kakadu Natl Park to Cairns/Port Douglas back to Sydney for the cruise portion of NZ. The cruise portion ends in Auckland. Has anyone done this trip? Recommendations/disappointments? We were also looking to add a stopover in either Tahiti or Fiji for a few days prior to or following the trip. We are flying from the east coast of the US and are thinking of doing a stopover in LA to avoid a really really long flight. Thoughts/ opinions on this. Preferences of Fiji over Tahiti? Thanks in advance.
