  1. Thank you for taking us, your readers, on such an amazing journey. This is in the top 3 reviews of all time,IMO.

A couple of comments. Are you sure your pictures were not postcards?;) They were truly amazing and your review really made it feel we were experiencing it with you!

Whales do not breach very often. It is very inefficient energy wise for them and there is no known reason why it is done. Breaches tend to occur on days of increasing winds, so not sure if this was the case when you saw a whale breach and not all species of whales breach. That is always a privilege to see a breach in the wild. Only about 10% of the time is a breach seen.

Since whales are in Alaska to feed, that is sometimes happening subsurface. It depends on where the food is.

Your one-legged seagull? They do that sometimes. Go figure. They tuck the other leg up into their feathers.

I hope you don't mind if I bookmark your review to get my "Alaska fix". I will go one day.

  2. yes, leekel. the coffee on the side is free. i know they serve it at breakfast time, but it is regular coffee- no special flavors.

Just a tip to those going on the Dawn. There is a shop in the atrium called Ports of Call with high end stuff like jewelry, etc. Deck 7 forward has a duty free shop with t-shirts, pens, hats - the kind of stuff you would find in a souvenir shop. On the last day they have sales.

  3. yes, Gail--why do we live here? because spring is lovely! I also would love tips on the Dawn..on the 7/22 to bermuda. anyone ? anyone? Bueller?? :):D

you mean the one day in may or june that is 70 and dry before we hit high 80's and low 90? with humidity ?

  4. Ya know, said I wasn't going to say anything more on this thread, but... since you're asking about the falls:

    AMERICAN SIDE:

Cave of the Winds - the best attraction in the falls. Walks you right into the Bridal Veil. If you want to get soaked, you can.

Niagara Falls State Park - The park itself has many beautiful views. Once you've paid for parking the park is free. The food is not. Eat somewhere else.

Daredevil Museum - Free to go in. Mainly it's a souvenir shop, but they do have three barrels that have gone over the falls and lots of other cool stuff. It's on the corner of Rainbow Ave. and Third Street.

Whirlpool Jet Boats - A little expensive at $55.00 but it is a 45 minute thrill ride up class four rapids in the gorge.

    CANADIAN SIDE:

Whirlpool Cable Car - $8.00 per person ride over the Whirlpool Section of the Gorge.

Journey Behind the Falls - man made tunnels carved out so that you can see the falls from behind.

Skylon or Minolta Towers - Fantastic Big Picture Views of the Falls.

You can take the Maid of the Mist from either side. Also a must do.

    Enjoy your trip.:)

    Thanks. Enjoy your yolur cruise.

  5. We are looking forward to our February 15 cruise on the Legend and have opted for the open seating dining option.

It is my understanding that you can request a certain waiter for service. I understand that there may be a wait to accomodate this request. However, as you know, a good waitstaff can make or break the dining experience.

So my question is: Can any recent Legend cruisers recommend a good waiter to request ?

    Thanks,

    Dr. Jack

Request Yotsa !!! He is the BEST !!!!

  6. My DH never made it on a cruise. He died 3 years ago after only 4 months of cancer and after 37 years of marriage. I also see patients where I work no older than me who will never cruise and are in bad shape. I am facing a "major" birthday this year and made the decision to take a cruise to Europe by myself. I wish my husband were here to go too but I plan to have a good time anyway. I have a picture of him in front of Stonehenge before we were married. I plan to have my picture taken there too, in front of the very same stone. Too sentimental I guess.:o Anyway, go for it everyone !

I am so sorry for your loss.

Your husband is there. You just can't see him.

I have lost my entire biological family in 9 years. My only child is graduating from H.S. this year in the top 10 of her class. I know my family will have a front row seat to see their grandaughter and niece graduate.
