  1. Thank You ! Best way to get to Smugglers Cove or the park beach from the cruise port ?   Taxi or are there water taxis ?   ANy idea what a taxi costs & how long it takes ?

Thanks in advance for all you help.

  2. As well as the shuttle it’s a flat, easy walk into town if you wish. As you exit the gate on the dockside keep the sea to your right and you will pick up a waterside pathway. This will take you about 35-45 minutes to reach the centre of town. It takes you past the Sun Voyager statue which is lovely.

We joined a free walking tour in town which was excellent- https://citywalk.is/

  3. Yes, you can subscribe to any thread. I think you have to go to your profile (top right of page), then use Control Panel to add subscriptions. You can specify when to get updates--every day, every time a new post is made, etc.

ETA: Just noticed that when you in a thread (and logged in), you can go to the top right and subscribe under Thread Tools.

    Good luck

  4. I believe the poster is on May 10th...Not on our May 28th.

Yes, May 10th. Thank You for the help. I'm still learning the platform, and did not realize I needed to subscribe to my own threads to get notified of the replies. More used to the message boards on TripAdvisor. Still finding this one very confusing to use, but keep trying :)

  5. Be careful about 'ash and ice' insurance in Iceland. There is wind-blown volcanic ash in some parts of Iceland (not necessarily Reykjavik) and you need this insurance if you drive anywhere near those areas as blown volcanic ash can damage both paint and glass. The deductible was $1000 several years ago when I was there and there was a rash of rental insurance scams where even the smallest blemish on a window or body was considered significant damage that initiated a $1000 charge on your credit card. You can find reports from travelers who had this problem (and others) renting cars in Iceland on TripAdvisor. I would go back to Iceland in a minute, it is wonderful - but would be very careful about renting a car while there. The only thing that saved us is that we were staying in Reykjavik for several days after returning our car in Reykjavik. We would drive the car back to the rental agency at the airport to discuss the ash damages the return agent tried to hit us with - that quickly changed the damage from significant to "not worth reporting" - and this was with an agency that had very good reviews.

Thanks So Much for the Heads Up. I have booked a car with Europcar, but I will rethink or else be careful.

  7. I didn't think so or Karen (MarinaGirl) would have certainly had them on the list...She's amazing !!

Hello, I AM on the May 10th sailing, but no idea about the roll call as I find that tool very confusing. Its like one 58 page long thread. I will see if I can find MarinaGirl & get added, thank you.

Also is there a way to be notified when someone posts a reply or do you just have to check your posts everyday ?

  8. We have an early flight 11:20am (actually the latest AA offered) leaving from DUB after disembarking the X Eclipse.

Any suggestions for a private transfer company?

Hubby & I are on this sailing, and have a similar flight time on Delta. It might be cost effective to share a ride to the airport if your interested. Chris

  9. In 2016 (while on the Celebrity Eclipse) we docked at the Skarfabakki Harbor cruise dock. This is the dock across from Videy Island. Have you tried using goggle to check the cruise schedule for this terminal?

If you are at Skarfabakki (and I suspect you likely will be), there is a cruise terminal with an information desk, snack bar and shops. Just outside the one of the terminal entrances Europcar had a well signed small wooden building. We signed our paperwork there and picked up the car keys. Europcar had their cars parked in the cruise terminal parking lot. We have driven in Iceland before, and were quickly on our way.

Hello, Europcar lists the pick up & drop off site as East Cruise SHip Harbor on their website, is this the same as Skarfabakki ? Also going on Eclipse this May:D

  10. I sailed with Windstar many years agon on the Windsurf & had fabulous snorkeling & diving opportunities right from the ship. I am thinking of booking a January cruise on the Pride, but I dont see any mention of scuba, and see only one possible snorkeling opportunity on any of the shore excursions.

Does anyone know why ? Are they no longer offering many watersports off the shiop ? Do you book them on your own now in ports ?

Thanks for any info, would love to return to Windstar but not if there is no watersports opportunities.

  11. Apparently this has been experienced on other ships -- sometimes only glasses of soda, but other times cans of soda. I can speculate on the reasons -- perhaps as you surmise, it is to convince people to upgrade their packages. Perhaps there is a supply problem along the line. Perhaps they are testing this on a couple of ships and will modify the package later.

BTW, if you wanted a glass of wine that was more expensive than the package allowed, you could have just paid the difference in price.

WHen I have asked about this onboard Summit, Ive been told if its not in the package you must pay the FULL price, not the increment.

  12. It is an awful experience to be bombarded like that, but unfortunately it can happen in multiple ports. One tip I have is to WAIT for a while before departing the ship. Most of the tour operators are there right after arrival. But if you give it an hour or two before you set ashore its gets much quieter.

  13. Taxis are very east to get there. Just hop in one and tell them to take you to St. James beach. Its about 10 minutes away. Clean restrooms, beach chairs and umbrella rentals. has restaurant and beach is free. There are 365 beaches in Antigua so you shouldn't have a problem finding one that suits you. Our taxi driver asked us when we wanted to go back, and he was waiting for us when we were ready to go.

Do you mean Fort James Beach ? Where do you get the chairs & umbrellas from ? Is there any decent snorkeling ? Is the restaurant where the restrooms & rentals are from ? Beachlimerz perhaps ? Thanks for your help :)

  14. With all due respect, I spoke to Jetblue yesterday. Their flight schedule to SJU is anything but normal & they have no estimates on when it will be. They are booking no new passengers before Nov 1st to PR & doing their best to accomodate exisitng reservations, but due to conditions there cannot even guarentee that.

Im sure that the island needs the tourists, but the tourists, especially older cruisers, also need some security. They need to know they can be quickly treated in a clean hospital if an emergency occurs. They need to know they wont be sitting in hot airports for many hours because of cancelled flights.

People have different levels of risk tolerence, until the San Juan area is truly functioning normally, it isnt fair to ask vacationers to incur hazards, big delays or sub par levels of service. These arent volunteers or aid workers, so please lets be responsible.

  15. Hi,

We are certified divers arriving on Celebriity Summit next week. Does anyone know if I can prearrange a water taxi to take us from the port to the southern beaches like Anse Chastenet or Ti Kaye for beach diving or snorkeling ?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  16. We are two certified divers going to be on the Celebrity Summit next week stopping in Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, St Marteen & St Thomas.

Usually we dive in St Lucia & St Thomas, but Im asking for help in deciding if it is worth trying a dive in Barbados & Antigua or St Marteen instead, just for a change.

Is there any good diving in ANtigua, Barbados or St Marteen or will we be sorely disappointed if we dont stick with St Lucia & St Thomas ? Its just that there is so much else to do there that we always miss, I thought perhaps we should shake up our routine.

Thanks in advance for any experiences, advice or recommendations you have.
