  1. We will be ending up in Tokyo early on a Sunday morning from a cruise and research is showing me that most of the flights back to the U.S.east coast cities generally leave late afternoon or early evening. Any suggestions on what can be done that last day as we'll have our luggage with us.  Don't really want to hang around the airport all day but have no idea what we could do.  Would appreciate some advice from others who have done this.  Thanks in advance.

  2. Good Day,

For any of you who have cruised Celebrity to various ports in Japan, do you know if they offered any excursions to Sado Island?  My husband is particularly interested in visiting there so I've been trying to find an itinerary that goes to a port near there but I have no idea if that is somewhere they offer day excursions to.  Any advice would be appreciated.

  3. My husband and I have started to look into cruises for next year and Japan is tops on his list.  He particularly wants to see the Taiko (I think sometimes called Kodo) drummers.  Any recommendations on what ports we'd have most luck with this?  And, does anyone know of any particular cruise line that offers any excursions to specifically see them?  Thanks for any advice!

  4. We're on the QM2 in September from NYC to Quebec. I've read in this forum that you can rent tuxedos on board and to head to the shop asap. Can anyone please tell me what shop and am I correct in thinking the shops would only open once the ship has left port? We've never cruised Cunard before so I'm unsure what to expect and my husband would rather not have to pack his tux jacket and trousers for this trip, preferring to rent those. Would appreciate some advice please.

  5. Hi Everyone,

September will be our first Cunard cruise. I've tried to login online and see what excursions are available for it which I did look at months ago when we booked it but for some reason now, cannot see what's available. How far out from a cruise date can you book excursions? Perhaps I'm too early?

  6. We visited Geiranger before on a cruise and did the bus trip up to the viewing points which were lovely. This time we wondered about just getting off the ship/tender and wandering around the town. I wondered if anyone who had been there could advise if it's a good area to wander around in. We're interested in local shops (not tourist traps), a nice restaurant for lunch and just soaking up the local atmosphere. Is this a good idea?

  7. We were booked on a mid June cruise to Alaska but I had to cancel in mid February following emergency surgery which is now restricting my travel for a while. I had made the cruise booking through a travel agent and quickly received a credit of my initial deposit on the credit card I'd used.

Back on December 30th I had myself booked and paid for a number of tours on Celebrities website. I waited to see if the payment for these would now be credited but they have not. I also sent Celebrity an email via their website on April 3rd asking what I need to do to obtain this credit which amounts to almost $900. As of today, no response from Celebrity and no credit showing on my credit card. I didn't want to ask the travel agent for help as she did not book these.

Next step is to call Celebrity but I'm not sure which number to use as I'm not "Already Booked" as this trip was cancelled. Should I call the Captain's Club number for assistance as we are elite members of same? Would appreciate some advice.

  8. Good Day,

We normally cruise on Celebrity and obtained elite status a while ago. I know we can utilize that on Royal Caribbean but do any of you know if they partner with any other cruise lines? I've tried to find this info both on cruise critic and just on the internet without any luck. Would appreciate any info you can offer.

  9. The solution is more buses. That is the cheapest infrastructure fix. Or to limit the number of cruise ship passengers at the Dockyard. Replace Breakaway with a ship with less passengers or limit the Dockyard to one ship berthed at a time. At the same time widen the cut to St. George. And the channel to Hamilton. That would spread the cruise passengers around like in olden times.

They have been studying the possibility of widening Town Cut but to date, no acceptable solution agreed upon due to the likely damage to the marine environment and our coral. As for widening the channel to Hamilton, I believe with the scattering of islands as you enter the harbor, and especially needing to go through Two Rock Passage, again, is it worth the damage to our very small island home? Personally, I don't think so.

I love to cruise but even more love and appreciate my island home and am not prepared to have some of it destroyed just to facilitate larger cruise ships being able to dock right in St. George or Hamilton. Most cruisers will realize that there aren't many ports where you are able to dock so close to the main town, more often it's farther out and often part of a really ugly cruise area.

You may disagree with me and that's your right and it's also your right to cruise elsewhere to a port you'd feel better accommodates your needs. I hope many of you will feel the inconvenience of being in Dockyard is not enough to turn you elsewhere and I do hope Government quickly realizes the stupidity of their recent action concerning the bus passes etc. - hopefully I'm wrong and they do in fact have properly running buses they can make available and at a reasonable cost...I'm sure they don't have the money to buy new ones any time soon!

  10. I'm probably going to regret adding my two cents but...I have a suspicion that one possible reason for this change which they hope will result in pushing more cruise passengers to taxis etc is because of the state of many of the buses themselves. Every summer there seems to be a problem with government providing enough buses to serve the tourist arrivals in Dockyard while still providing capacity for locals who also depend on the system. It was well documented some months back when a number of bus routes were regularly cancelled at very short notice stranding locals including school children, that there was a shortage of buses to fulfill the routes due to many needing repairs. And, government cutbacks had reduced overtime by bus drivers contributing to the lack of buses on the road.

As a country, we're definitely struggling with a crumbling infrastructure including our school buildings, bridges, buses etc. The government is trying to reduce the debt of the country and in so doing, has reduced various departmental budgets which I understand but without a solid infrastructure, can we really handle the mega ships and the drive to increase air arrivals? I can only see this annual peak season struggle continuing. Individual Bermudians who do their best to be friendly and welcoming to our visitors can only go so far in providing an enjoyable experience.

  11. Am trying to find out where the Celebrity ships would likely be docking in the port of Le Havre in early June. We have an overnight there. Haven't been able to find port info so was wondering if anyone could advise. We're interested in a particular restaurant in Le Havre and are trying to figure out how far it is from where we're likely to dock to see if we could walk to it. Would appreciate some advice if anyone can help.

  12. Am trying to find out where the Celebrity ships dock in Le Havre and am having difficulty finding port info for there on any website. Our Celebrity ship will be overnighting there in early June. Want to see how far a restaurant we're interest in is from where the ship will likely be.

I will post this too on the Europe port section but thought some Celebrity cruisers might know. Thanks in advance for any advice you are able to provide.

  13. March will be our first cruise with Royal Carribbean. I had setup an account on their website in December and had a number of problems doing so. A few weeks after that, I went on to try and book some shows and again had a problem logging in. Says my user name or password is incorrect although I have it recorded and know it was right. So, I hit forgot user name or password and was sent a link to reset everything which I did and I got access that day.

Tried to do some more a week or so later, same exact problem and had to reset everything.

Yesterday, same exact problem....reset again and booked one dining reservation. Tried to book another and it wouldn't let me as said was being updated.

This morning, same login problem, says user name or password incorrect, have been waiting over 20 minutes to be sent a link to change things yet again....is this normal for the RC website? I just can't deal with this. Have no idea if I'll be able to access to do the online setup for our passports etc.

Does anyone else have this problem?

  14. We are booked on Silhouette in May in a suite and I've been searching this forum to find out about Luminae. Our TA put us down for "Select Dining" when she made our booking. That one I understand.

I had a look at our itinerary and worked out what nights I wanted to book to dine in various specialty restaurants and today went online and made those reservations.

I can't see what you're supposed to do for Luminae. I thought if you wanted to have breakfast there, you'd just show up and if there was room, you'd get in. Likely similar for lunch. Is that correct?

For dinner, can you make reservations for specific nights and times online? I couldn't find that on Celebrity's site. Do you wait till you're onboard and make reservations then? Would appreciate some advice on what you need to do.
