I am looking at a cruise next year for Empress of the Seas. My young kids have been on many cruises on various cruiselines. This ship doesn't seem to have a lot compared to other ships. Any feedback on kid's activities, events, things to do?

Then cancel your booking, unless you're speaking in past-tense.
No, I have one in July, so we'll see if it even sails out. But I have trip insurance and will cancel if need be.

disappointed in Carnival. I wish I didn't book my cruise with them and most likely won't cruise w them again.

The band is DSB. I've seen them on 3 different Anthem cruises, and I've heard people say they are better than the original Journey. Great band.I only caught the last half hour, but they were amazing!!

but here is my random question. why dont they serve shrimp cocktail in the main dining room anymore? I know the menu changed, but this is usually a staples on cruise menus.

I'm on the Breakaway now. The seas were too choppy to tender to GSC yesterday. Captain made the announcement around 9:15 am and we headed slowly to Nassau once we secured an overnight berth.
Intermittent clouds and light showers today - a nice rainbow earlier.
We are at the far pier, so those on the port side have a nice view of Atlantis, Colonial Beach and the sea, as well as the channel traffic.
thanks for the info
I see a black, dark cloud moving in!

I suspect Ruthless Boss is talking about this site:
In the upper left corner there is a drop down menu to look at other ports.
thank you!

find the webcam?
what are the reasons for the ship not docking in GSC? I missed this island years ago and hope to make it on the trip this time around. we leave Sunday

how was was Junkanoo beach? how long did it take to walk?

Just got off The Liberty Saturday. Martini's were $10, Johnny Walker black, $8, Bloody Mary's $10 or $12, Manhattan's $12, house wine $7 drink of the day $6.75
Marg
I was able to get bloody Mary's for 4.95 on one of the days!

I thought the main dining room food was delish. I had no complaints really
-
Didn't appear to, lots of empty seats around there at 10am while the other pool was packed.
good to know!! that's where I'll be hanging with the kids and hopefully I can find a chair or 2 to lay on
-
is the pool area by the kiddie pool also get busy with chair hogs?
-
Thanks! Will we stick out if we are not dressed formal? I guess I don't want to be a disruption. I don't mind going to the other venues on those nights if needed. I don't want my wife to feel uncomfortable.
I don't plan on wearing shorts in the MDR just didn't want to dress fancy smancy.
no one will care or notice. and if they do, they have too much time on their hands..

works now thanks!! great pics and review so far

I can't see any of the pictures..

As Liberty has not done 10 day North American sailings nobody will know what the menu rotation will be until she moves to Bayonne in a couple of months.
Here is the link to 7 of the menus.

thank you!

can this be found on the RCL website? If not, where can I locate a full menu for the dining room?
thanks

Liberty has the H2O zone on the pool deck (deck 11), just forward of the aft centrum.
thanks! I see that now. good to know!
-
is there a kiddie pool or something similar like EOS had? I cant seem to find on the deck plans
-
I hope it is for you, too!
I at at the deli for lunch once. It was good. The Mongolian Wok, I thought, was overrated. Maybe I'm just used to the one here in Cleveland where there are a lot more choices and I can load up on the meat. But I'd rather hit the deli or rotisserie than wait in line for the Wok.
you were right about the food. not everything was terrible, but since the last time we went on the Splendor, the food had declined.
in general, we had a great time on the cruise, but the food and service in the dining room lacked the exceptional experience we had back in May 2013
-
Thank you for your response. Do they leave the retractable roof open on sunny days? We love laying out in the sun by the pool. Also do they do theme nights like Norwegians white hot night?
Thank you
I've cruised NCL and Carnival many times. going on the Splendor my second time this Saturday. Carnival doesnt have the themed parties like Norwegian does. the best thing I like about Norwegian is their entertainment/shows/themed parties. and their hibachi restaurant!
you won't see that on the Splendor.
the retractable roof is only on when it rains or is cold. but otherwise, it should be open for when the sun is out

hope the food is better for our cruise Saturday! did u eat at the mongolion wok or sandwich place? best food during lunch

I was on the cruise as well. We had some of the best weather those two ports have all year. We were quite lucky with that.
I booked this as a last minute cruise for a dirt cheap rate. I basically would have been paying the same or more over those 5 days to live my normal life on land.
The Splendor is my favorite of the three Carnival ships that I've been on (the others being the Imagination and the Glory). I got to try the Chef's table on this cruise and that was a great experience that I recommend to anyone. The steakhouse was great as well. The 18 oz spiced ribeye is awesome and the free bottle of wine on the first night in the steakhouse makes it an even better value. The MDR is good as usual. The buffet is average at best like usual. The shows were mediocre. The comedy shows were hit or miss (one comedian was great, the other just made jokes about us choosing Canada as our vacation OVER AND OVER).
Nothing on the ship will "wow" you but I had a lot of fun and met some great people. To me, that is what cruising is all about anyway.
have the chef's table?

thanks everyone. The itinerary and timing is the reason this ship is chosen. Just 1 sea day, so I figured entertainment during the day wouldn't be a big deal and at night, they can do kids club during the shows. There are newer ships leaving the same timeframe, but they go to places we have already been (Port canaveral, nassau and the private island)
