We were on this same cruise.  Wonderful ship, great staff, very good to excellent food, shows that we saw were entertaining.  There were a lot of kids having noisy fun and most of the time we could find quiet places to enjoy the sea.  Cheers.

Greetings!  Disembarked with my beloved Sister today.  We had a fantastic week

    Loved It:

    * New Library is gorgeous and peaceful.

    * The food variety, taste and temperatures were superb.  My faves were:  Rudi's coq au vin.  Dutch Cafe's split pea soup, and Lido's poppy seed rolls.

    * Musicians at BB Kings and Rolling Stone Rock Room were super engaging and talented.

    * Our obstructed view balcony room was beautiful and in a great central location.  Lots of storage space.  Great water pressure in shower.

    * I ordered flowers on board, looking at the florist book at the front desk, and they were gorgeous mixed carnations for only $29.  Stayed fresh all week!

    * Kind, patient and hard working crew.

    Liked It:

    * Deal or No Deal was fun to watch on main stage and the host was terrific.

    * Seeing family groups have fun together over the Thanksgiving holidays.

    * Despite a sold out ship, we were still able to find uncrowded nooks to read and spaces to enjoy the sea.

    * Great weather for walking the promenade deck.  Fun walking around Avalon and San Francisco.

    Small Issues:

    * AC/Heat thermostat in our cabin didn't work first few hours, but was thankfully fixed and fine for the rest of our journey.

    * Onboard account had a few glitches that we had to get fixed at front desk.  Also had to get a working key card for our cabin.

    * There were 3,000 (only exaggerating a little) kids in the lido pool and hot tubs . . . but hey they were on break and having fun.

    * Loooooooong line to clear customs on the ship . . . but I didn't get in any trouble . . . this time . . .

I'm very grateful for my wonderful cruise!!!!

  3. Hello all,

Some of you will have read my previous post asking about a cruise to NZ and Australia that is 15 months away showing SOLD OUT on HAL website.

Well, we have our answer. Our 29 day cruise has had 14 days (the 2 weeks sailing around New Zealand) broken off and sold off as two 7 days charters to a Dave Kos Jazz group, originating out of Australia. It now consists of a 15 day SPacific to Honolulu and Vancouver.

We haven't been notified by HAL that our cruise has been seriously changed but going to the Dave Koz web site shows both 7 day segments are sold out so it is obviously a done deal.

My question for you is what can we expect from HAL? We booked this cruise while on board our Alaska trip in Sept. and got a good price as well as $ 600.00 in OBC.

We have never had to deal with anything like this before.

    Thanks for your help!

  4. On our recent holiday cruise we were assigned late fixed dining at a table for 8. The first two nights, the only people who showed up was a Dutch couple. The wife spoke English, the husband not so much. The third night we were on our own, the fourth night the Dutch couple returned and informed us that the next three nights ( which happened to be Dec. 23,24, and 25) they would be eating elsewhere with 3 other Dutch couples they had met on the ship. Not wanting to eat alone my DH and I decided to do anytime dining. Each time we went to the podium to get a table, the dining room person looked at the computer and questioned us as to why we were not eating at our fixed table assignment. Each time, he looked somewhat annoyed that we had chosen to eat somewhere other than our fixed dining table. Each night We had to explain why we were there. Why would we want to eat by ourselves over Christmas? The whole reason for asking for a 8 top was so that we would have company/ conversation while we celebrated the holiday. As it turned out we met nice people in anytime dining and enjoyed our meals.I think in future we will skip the traditional dining format altogether and only use anytime dining. That way we will not run in to the other issue we had...people who wanted to take extra time for each course while they each drank 2 glasses of wine. I felt bad for the dining room attendants...this couple kept sending them away when they were trying to get the courses served. I think people who want to eat in a slower manner should sit at a table for two instead of inflicting their dining style on others. It made my DH and I very uncomfortable!

  5. I will be on the NA in Sept and based on the articles I had see about the suite upgrades stating that NA was next in line after Oosterdam in April 2016 I had high hopes my Neptune suite would be already upgraded. This info kind of shoots down that hope... oh well there's always the next cruise.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

We were in a Neptune on NA over Christmad and upgrades ( coffee maker and Bose sound) were already in place. What specifically were you hoping would be done to the Neptune on the NA?

  6. Just off of the N/A after Christmas. Had the opportunity to use this service for the first time and we loved it! Placed suitcases outside cabin door before midnight the night before disembarkation with the appropriate ship supplied airline tags and our suitcases were on the baggage round about in Edmonton on arrival! Well worth the $25.00 a piece fee! Not to mention being able to avoid the lineups at FLL airport! Might just be the best idea HAL has had in a long time. Seemed to be available for most airlines except Delta..they had some restrictions.

  7. Sounds to me as though a trip to the doctor and examination for sleep apnea is in order! I used to snore like a freight train too until I was fitted with a CPAP machine. Loud snoring is the prime sign that you could be having trouble breathing during sleep. On testing they discovered I stopped breathing63 times an hour. Any one of those times...if prolonged could have meant my demise!

It is so quiet in our room now, my DH has to touch me to make sure I am still alive.

Good luck and have a wonderful cruise!!

  8. We were on the Nieuw Amsterdam over Thanksgiving. They had both premade and made to order sandwiches. I'm not really a sandwich person but my significant other loved the fresh sandwiches. BTW - the food on this ship overall was excellent!

Great news! We board in 6 days

Looking forward to no cooking over the holidays!

  9. Our most frequently visited cruise port is also the place which we have most frequently stayed . And while we will be reviewing our recent dive trip , restaurants , and fun things to do , what are your favorite things to do here ?

Please feel free to share with us and others . :) :D

Enjoying your pictures. Your hotel looks very nice. Can you tell me what it's name is? Thankyou

  10. Assuming you are leaving from FLL, you will want to be on the port side to view and to "catch a wave" from the webcam. You can request "a wave" from the webcam.

    Thanks Jacqui!

Myself and some other CC's on our trip are getting together to sail out of FLL and we would love to wave to the camera. Do we have to let anyone know our plan? That is why we are trying to determine what deck is best. I thought maybe deck 10, outside the Crows Nest? Never been on the Neuw Amsterdam before. Some want to be close to a bar; I'm thinking the Lido might be real jammed tho.

  11. Was just checking out beverage cards for our upcoming PanamaCanal cruise.

We did not book during the Explore 4 time. For 19 days they want $963.00 EACH for their 15 drink a day/ under $ 8.00 a drink package. Are you kidding?? Not even a consideration in our cruise expense planning!
