  1. We went on the Christmas and New Year cruise a few years ago and it was a bit of a hit and miss affair. We will all be dressing up on the 2 nights we can but other nights it tends to be fairly casual. It could be warm but the ship has air con so it can be a bit cool sometimes if you are wearing your strappy dress  -  ladies of course   -  can I say that these days??

  2. We are on this cruise too and hubby is taking his dress up clothes. We quite enjoy that part of cruising but when we went with Marella a few years ago at Christmas it was a bit hit and miss. I am sure the people we are travelling with will dress up too. I would take what you feel comfortable in and also what weight you have left.

  3. We just did this cruise and Haugesund is a bit of a bore. Not much to do so I suggest you plan something ahead. The tourist train was ok but expensive. We did see the midnight sun but maybe August it will be gone. We did a trip with Calm Giant in Alesund. Excellent-I can't say enough good things about it. We saw fabulous waterfalls and thick snow. Iggy the owner was our guide and a very funny guy he was. Look at his website for more info. Olden is beautiful, try and get to the glacier if you can. Not much doing in the other places so plan your time well and be aware that you have a long walk into town in Trondheim. Shuttles are 20$ each.

Heathrow to Southampton is a better journey than Gatwick, but still wise to get an earlier coach.

You should be able to drop your luggage early and pop across to town, but you will easily be able to board from about 12.30, regardless of your allocated time.

    Have a fantastic time,

    Andy

Thank you-it's our 40th anniversary so really looking forward to it.

  5. Thank you everybody. I didn't realise anyone had replied as I was waiting to get notification!! Yes definitely flying the day before-Valencia to Heathrow and staying overnight there. We will get the coach down to Southampton as flights from here to S'oton stopped last year, Flybe. We have a choice of coaches so by the looks of things it would be best to get the earlier than later one. Such good advice, than you do much.

  6. We are trying to plan our travel arrangements for our cruise to Norway in July on Aurora. It's too early to see what time the check in or departure times are at this stage. Anyone have a clue for us so we can book flights etc. We live in Spain so difficult to get to Southampton!

  7. No vaccinations are required.

We always make sure the following vaccinations are up to date:

    Flu

    Tetanus

    Hepatitis A

For travel in Asia we have also gotten Typhoid Vaccination.

My advice is to consult with your physician or ideally a physician who specializes in Travel.

In the USA I use the CDC web site and I can put in what travel we are doing and then a country at a time to get their recommendations.

    https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel

CDC stands for Center for Disease Control.

    Thanks for the info.

I will see what I can find out here then. I have never had any vaccinations so must have go get a tetanus one and maybe the Hep 2 one as well.

  8. If anyone reading this thread is on a cruise that stops at Sihanoukville, Cambodia, don't exchange money. USD are accepted everywhere and used in combination with Cambodian Riel (KHR). Just get rid of any KHR you've collected before returning to the ship... unless you want it as a 'novelty item'.

Just asking on the off chance you might know but do you have to have a visa for Cambodia if you don't intend to get off the ship ?

  9. I have been told that if I book excursions through the ship they will organise a visa for entry into India. I thought that you may not be allowed on board if you didn't have your visas already. Can anyone clear this up for me?? Thanks

  10. Looking at the Discovery for next year but I notice all the suites are on deck 8 which is below the pools and other recreation areas. Has anyone been on this ship in a suite that can advise on noise and disturbance? As you are paying for a dearer cabin I would hope that the problem is minimal but worth asking. Thanks

  11. My husband bought a long ''gold'' chain in December and was told that if the colour came off he could get it replaced. Surprise surprise the colour is starting to change but there is nothing on the receipt about changing it or in fact where you can complain. Why are P+O allowed to sell this stuff if they know their customers are going to be disappointed?
