And what did AA say when you called them on the phone?

You did call them to get the direct answer?

Yes!  It took a few tries as I had to be around long enough to wait to get an agent.

They were very confused and I spent a fair amount of time on hold.  The in person folks don't do the internet stuff...so no clear answers, but she could see my issues.  They indicated that AA business is to rule the ticket, but that it's not 100% clear.  One issue is that they had provided me a confirm for IB.  When I logged in with that - I could see no bags, no seat, etc and no ability to do anything about it.  She got new confirms for me for all three of us and now when I use those - I can see that we get two checked bags for person - in line with AA business international.  And that allowed me to then purchase seats.  So having a better path forward with IB I'm more confident of what should happen and be permitted at the airport in Venice.  Was trying to avoid any issues at the gate at 4 am.

Appreciate your assistance.  Travel is certainly not straightforward anymore.

I can't work out what's happened to cause one sector to be booked in economy. I'm only working with random dates, but even if I allow VCE-MAD to be priced in economy, specifying business for MAD-CLT-CLE forces VCE-MAD to be booked into business (and even then, that trick only produces an IB code for VCE-MAD, and it can't be booked on an AA code).

So I think that you need to find out from AA what baggage allowance is written on your ticket for each of the sectors. I don't have a recent cash AA ticket receipt to look at so I don't know what they show and whether they should be explicit about the baggage allowance for each sector.

Thank you for looking at it. I’m finding it very confusing as well. The only luggage specified is the very first leg. Following the trail for the others is rather circuitous. There are several of us doing this so I’m trying to sort it out.

  3. I bought it online on AA and do have one 13 digit number for the four flights (one over and three back). The receipt specifies the bags for the flight over, but makes no mention of any bags for any of the return segments. The segments ticketed are:

      TPA-LGW

      VCE-MAD

      MAD-CLT

      CLT-CLE

All are business except VCE-MAD. All are AA numbered flights. British Air is the carrier over and Iberia the first on the return.

  4. Ok

I double checked and it is Iberia. They do have a business class on this flight. Even though the other three legs are in business, this piece is in economy. I’m confused as to why that would be. Does it seem right that we should be able to check two bags (so essentially checking our carryon) as there is an international piece?

  5. We are flying this Fall home from a cruise.  We have business class booked on American - all one ticket.  It goes from Venice to Madrid, Madrid to Charlotte.  The Venice to Madrid is listed as economy, because of the plane being used (Iberia I believe).  I've been able to find things indicating that we can check two bags (if needed) through - as the main (overseas flight) will dictate.  But what about the carryon.  The one listed for the Venice to Madrid hop would show on that airline as being smaller and lighter than what is allowed on the overseas flight.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

  6. GF bread-at least that served on the ships is frozen and meant to be toasted. My servers knew but couldn't do anything about it. I rarely eat bread, so I didn't care. I didn't want any, but they kept bringing it. They were very sweet.

The bread station in the lido is clearly marked. I only got omelettes there-they were amazing.

I thought the food served was very good. The inconsistency was my main concern. Same item-different answers. We actually had amazing hamburger buns on our ship. I never tried a hot dog. Our dive-in knew what they were doing.

My server decided early on he would like to pick my meals so if he didn't see me due to a late tour, he'd put together a meal for me (I did always stop in and order). He actually did very well except he kept giving me the flourless chocolate cake. While delicious it is very rich. It took a few days to convince him that what I really wanted was ice cream. He would appear with the most random things, but it was a great way to try things. By the way, if they serve Arctic Char-get it. Awesome!

  7. When I said the bread was not toasted, I was talking about what was served at meals. I believe they would toast it for you in the Lido, but I rarely got anything there. They didn't tell me until more than halfway through the cruise that I was asking on the wrong side of the buffet. Apparently the ice cream girl on the right side had better information than the left side. Even the chefs would sometimes have to eat a dessert to tell me which ones I could have. Labeling could be better just as to what things are. I ran into a few other GF folks on board and we were not all given the same information.

I did notify the ship ahead and order items prior to boarding. Once on board they told us that was pretty much worthless. Overall I thought the food was good and I did fine - but I'm very careful. If I'm not sure, I just don't eat something and I try to pick what would appear to be the safer option regardless. I'm willing to sail with HAL again and I can't say that about every line I have been on.

  8. We just returned from our cruise. While there we went out on the Black Pearl sailboat for a sunset snorkel and sail. It was amazing. http://www.Aruba-Sailing.com It was only a $12 cab ride from the port (four of us in a cab) and I think it was $70/person. We were out for over three hours. This included a lot of drinks, fruit, tomato/cheese sandwiches and grilled cheese sandwiches. It also included snorkel gear and two snorkel stops. The boat is very comfortable and we had a blast. We plan to go again when we are back in Aruba.

  9. I've done Oceania and Princess-only one on each. I find it a toss up on all but price. oceania was definitely more expensive. I did like no photographers or soft drink sales, but I found that the daily activities mainly involved sales-casino games, bingo. I did get so bored that I started going to needlepoint. As we don't play bridge, there were limited options. But I also sailed during rough seas and the pool and sun deck were closed a few days. Tea is nice on Oceania. I'm gluten free and Oceania really struggled with this. Oceania breakfasts were amazing, but for the other meals we preferred Princess. We did not care for Toscana at all. We do like shows and did miss those. We also found the room used for those and almost every other gathering to be very uncomfortable and have horrible sight lines.
