  1. Princess does have transfers from Princess-booked hotels in Rome to the ship. However, I don't know if you can book that transfer separately if you don't book the hotel through Princess.

I booked a pre-cruise hotel through Princess in Rome before a trans-Atlantic a couple of years ago, and the transfers from airport to hotel and from hotel to ship (including luggage handling) were handled very well. I usually book my own hotel, but in this case I found it better to book through Princess - it didn't cost much more and it was much more convenient. You will need to do your own comparison.

The Princess pre-cruise hotel included transfers and luggage handling from airport to hotel and from hotel to ship. Another thing that influenced our decision was that Princess Vacation Protection includes Princess pre-cruise hotels. For some of us older people, Princess Vacation Protection is much less expensive than third-party insurance. After figuring in the potential cost for additional travel insurance, the Princess hotel was a better deal - in this one specific case.

In 2013 we stayed at a Princess Arranged hotel and the bus picture med us up at the hotel. While waiting I visited with a couple who stayed at a different hotel and met the transfer at our hotel. I think there was also a pick-up at another spot downtown. Call Princess or TA and ask.

  2. Question. How difficult is it to redeem credit card rewards points when booking a cruise? I've never done it before, but there are a couple of credit cards out there (Capital One Venture & Barclay World Elite MasterCard) that have piqued my interest.

Princess has their own credit card that can be used to collect points, but I don't know about the other cruise lines.

  3. I have only stayed in balconies and mini suites, but we wouldn't cruise without the balcony. In fact it is so important that we prefer the balcony, on the Carib deck on Princess, over the larger mini suite rooms. The carib balconies are larger and are half covered and half in the Sun. We spend a lot of our time on the balcony. It was especially nice when cruising into Venice, the Norwegian fjords, and going through the Panama canal. We are looking forward to our balcony on our upcoming Alaska cruise.

  4. We stopped at Huatulico on our PC cruise and had a wonderful time. The people are proud of their clean water and sewer treatment plant so no pollution in the ocean. The people are friendly and the port area is nice. We would love to see it again.

  5. What a wonderful review. It is one of the best I have read, very thorough and entertaining. It brought back memories of my cruise to the Eastern Caribbean aboard the Caribbean Princess in 2005. We also had rough water one day, with waves splashing in the pools. It also refreshed my memory of the Ruby, from our Mediterranean cruise in 2013. I'll have my sister read your reviews so she can preview the ship before our Alaska cruise in May. Thank you again for your wonderful posting.

  6. What a wonderful review of your trip and the Ruby Princess. We are platinum members, but have yet to sail on the Ruby. We will be sailing on her in the Mediterranean on May 12. I am so looking forward to sailing on the Ruby, after such a detailed review. Thank you again.
