  1. I looked for info on Bar Harbor as we received an email today with the following for our Jewel of the Seas cruise in the fall:

Due to capacity limitations in Bar Harbor, Maine, we’ve replaced our visit to Bar Harbor and will visit Boston, Massachusetts instead. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by this. Nevertheless, we know you’ll enjoy your visit to Boston!

Not sure if we will remain with this cruise.

The overnight call in Lahaina with 2 full days would be a real highlight for me on this one-- it's a shame more cruise lines don't do it. You can accomplish a lot given you are going to be tendering in much better located Lahaina vs Kahului and you have the flexibility of doing things you cant on a standard day port call like having dinner on Maui the first night.

What are your recommendations for tours in Lahaina?

  3. We are new to MSC and have done a number of Royal Caribbean and a couple of Carnival cruises.  We have Diamond status on Royal.  Are there long waits to board if you choose a smaller port like Genoa to embark?  Is the main dining ok or is the private dining for Aurea that much better to justify the increase in cost?

When we are back to fully booked cruises then the priority boarding benefit is really huge. I remember the times waiting hours at the terminal with boarding number 17 and next boarding group is number 3 😄

  5. I looked on here as I'm having the same problem.  I can see my reservation but can't get into "manage reservation."  I wanted to see if my onboard credit from the rewards credit card in on the account yet.  I can use the app on the phone but don't know where to look for the onboard credit.

so glad I am not doing any cruising in or out of Europe this year for the various comments above.

I do trips from FLA (just did Symphony and Wonder) in last 6 weeks, and I wore masks at all the indoor venues.  Will do Allure in June and Quantum in August.

I had chills and cough on my Wonder but tested negative as it was truly allergies and slight chills from air conditoning.  Then tested negative before SOS.

So glad I wore mask on both ships

I think things are moving too fast away from masking especially since one can test negative 48 hours before arrival on ship and then sit on planes with unvaxxed and unmasked folks.  where is the reasoning on this?

cases on ships will go up given the relaxed rules elsewhere in the travel loop.

How often did you test after your first symptom?  My husband and I both had Covid after our cruse in March.  For work he had to test a few times.  First two tests were negative and tested positive on the 4th day after symptoms started.  He only had allergy symptoms for a couple days and felt fine the day he tested positive.  My first test was negative and tested positive on the 5th day.  I was a little sicker as I had a sore throat.  Honestly, we won't have been testing if our firend on the cruise hadn't tested positive the day he returned.  He also felt like he had allergy problems.

  7. Like a couple of other posters here I've been checking to see if I can update my Royalup bid after having a bid for a spacious oceanview accepted.  I decided to call Royal Caribbean and ask if I will be able to and was told "no,  Only one Royalup per bid."  My Royalup bid was accepted early in Feb the day I received the email with offers and my cruise is not til later in March.

I expect they may be holding off processing March Royal-up's to see what the effect of lifting mandatory mask from sailings has on last minute bookings.   (Or possibility last minute cancelations)

I received the email for our March cruise and thought that I would have time to revise bids as we didn't find out our bid was accepted until 4 days beforehand last July.  The bid was acceped the day I made the bid for a spacious balcony over a month before the cruise.  Have checked back to see if we could bid for junior suite which we had in July and I get the message that bid was accepted and other categories show expired.

No, if you get the 2 br suite, the only the people booked in your cabin will be upgraded to the suite and thus have suite privileges.  They can visit your suite, of course.  You could even let your friends sleep in your spare Br, but they won’t get the perks… and their own cabin is probably the nicer place to sleep than the second bedroom.

If you tried to officially move them into your cabin after you won a RoyalUp upgrade, you’d trigger a repricing…suddenly your great deal would vanish.

Thanks, Starry Eyes, for the info.  With that info the Junior Suite or One Bedroom Suite makes more sense to bid on.

  10. We finally received the Royalup email for a March cruise on Explorer.  Friends of ours are going.  They have a spacious ocean view balcony and we have a regular balcony.  We are able to bid on the 2 bedroom suite.  Is that large enough for 2 couples?  Could they cancel their room if we won?  The largest suite we have stayed in is the Junior Suite on the Freedom.

  11. I was on the Freedom of the Seas earlier this month and had bids on 4 different rooms.  I checked each day for a week or two before the trip.  We had booked a guaranteed balcony and saw the we were changed to a spacious ocean view balcony a few days before the cruise.  I checked the credit card and didn't have a charge for the bid and the other bids were still pending.  On the Thursday night before the cruise that left on Monday morning I received the email stating that we had a junior suite.  At that point the credit card was charged and we could see the new room number on the app.

  12. We have an email saying our documents are ready.  Our cruise is later in the month and we had a guaranteed ocean view.  We bid on the available categories and  the document now shows a spacious ocean view room.  Is that the room that we will have or is there a chance we can still be upgraded to a higher category?  I've checked the credit card and have not seen the upgrade charge.

  13. Hoping to go to Hawaii in the fall and hope that the travel restrictions are lifted.  Vaccinated but don't want to have the hassle of testing.  Are car rentals still a problem?  We heard there was a shortage of cars.  We were considering renting a car in port but now considering tours.

  14. MaybeOneDay, the money for our deposit was refunded to credit card in a few days.  We booked a Royal Caribbean cruise through a travel agent and was looking forward to cruising to Alaska in June with our adult children and their spouses.  There were two many unknowns and unfortunately the day of last payment was the day Royal changed to 48 hours cancellation.   I also am amzed at the number of cruises some make in one year but hope someday that will be us.  We try to cruise twice a year since the kids are on their own.  We have a Canadian cruise in Octoboer and trying to figure out another one for late summer.

  15. To the OP, I understand your concerns, I've been on cruises with adult children who drank too much, but at least it wasn't a nightly event.  To those of you who drink too much, you have no idea what it is like to "babysit" another adult on a cruise because of concerns on what they are going to do.  You may be having the time of your lives but have no idea what is like on the other side and according to some of these posts, could care less.  I've always wonder what the big deal if you can't remember the next day anyway.  I'm not saying I don't drink, drink most weekends but know my limits.  I hope this young man makes changes soon, I've read that it takes some of this generation til they are 30 years old to become adults.  They listen to their friends and won't take advise from a parent, especially a mother.  I was told that it is none of my business.

  16. I love how people on cruise critic slam posters without waiting to hear more of the story.  I don't know where you live but I have children who live an hour and a half away but their trip can be 4 hours on heavy traffic days.  Can a 30 minute trip take 2 hours?  Probably in many different places.  I guess most of you want to defend Viking.  I haven't read much that would induce me to want to take a Viking cruise.  We were on an Avalon cruise and just because they had to move the boat while we were in town we received a nice allowance for lunch.  I heard similar stories about Avalon and look forward to our next cruise with them.
