  1. Marittima, not San Basilio?

An Azamara rep told me this week that Quest will be docked at Marittima, the main passenger terminal, for our May 5 cruise.

I also read recently that starting in 2017, cruise ships will no longer be permitted to dock at the smaller pier.

  2. I'm sorry that you were treated rudely for asking a question. My request for a box lunch 3 years ago on Silversea was cheerfully filled. This was in a South Africa port. We were scheduled to have an all day private tour to an elephant reserve. The tour guide informed us ahead of time that food would not be available and suggested that we bring a lunch. The only caveat was to avoid citrus fruits as the elephants love oranges. Years ago the reserve area had been devoted to growing oranges and the elephants retained an atavistic taste for citrus.

The bottom line is that some cruise lines will provide a boxed lunch if local regulations permit. YMMV.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  3. We disembarked the Sapphire in Bucharest on the 23rd. Water levels were not a problem on this eastern Danube itinerary. The cruise director and more than 50 passengers had boarded in Amsterdam while we hadn't boarded until Budapest. Numerous passengers and the cruise director said that Scenic had transferred passengers from one boat to another rather than turn the cruise into a coach tour. I don't have any specific information, but hope this may lesson your anxiety.

  4. Hi Mairnealach,

Sorry I wasn't more specific. We will arrive in port (Alexandra Quay Pier) at 08:00 on Sept. 8 and sail at 23:00 on Sept. 9. We will have just 1 overnight away from the ship.

Our previous port will be Belfast where we have booked a car and will drive to the Giant's Causeway and hopefully also see some of the Mourne Valley . The ship is not in port overnight in Belfast.

Our port after Dublin is Waterford where we plan to do a walking tour (and shopping!).

  5. may I ask your advice for a 2 day driving trip from Dublin? We will have an overnight in Dublin giving us 2 days to explore the countryside. We have visited Ireland several times on independent driving tours and have booked a car. Could you recommend an itinerary? We are considering Powerscourt and Glendalough but what else might we see? We have been to Newgrange and found it fascinating. Our plan is to overnight at a B & B.

    Thank you.
