How was the Rose Hill excursion? We'll be in MoBay next week and thinking about doing Rose Hill. I'm 66 and walk with a cane. I've heard there are a LOT of steps and stairs at Rose Hill. Will I have a problem, in your opinion? Thanks for any advice. Rose Hill is about the only excursion we're interested in.

I'm interested in this also. I have the same concerns...my knees don't handle stairs well...LOL

  2. I was reading all the responses so I had to call and check the Maya for myself. I need a room for November 2, sailing out on November 3, this year. The room rate for cruise and park is $359. If you don't need parking, the room rate is $354. Now I see why this hotel is a good deal if you need a night stay AND parking. I will be flying in so I won't have my car with me. A bit to pricey for me for a nights lodging but if I were driving, it sounds like it would be in my budget.

I called and was also quoted the higher rates. If you send and email to Jessica (see posts above for the email address) she can give you a quote on the Carnival rate. I got $179 for a room rate the end of Nov.

  3. Just FYI- I have looked at the Maya for March and April 2019.

Perhaps it is too far out to book but in March rooms are over $300 per night and in April there is a whole week where NO rooms at all are available.

I do not know the reason for any of this but hope to find out soon.

We may have to change our normal routine and either stay somewhere else or drive up the day of the cruise and park at the port.

We did finally get a response from the Maya. Booked our room for Nov. 30 at rate of $179.

  4. Carnival debuts its new ships in Europe and then moves them to the US. That's their business model. From what I understand, the demographic for Carnival doesn't include a lot of people who want to spend the money to fly to Europe for departure. Heck, many passengers don't even have passports.

The Carnival Corp runs other cruise lines that cruise Europe.

Do your Carnival Cruises count as a past guest on those lines?

  5. Princess is your best bet for he canal. Either full or partial transit. They also have enrichment lecturers on board, which greatly enhances the experience. The Coral Princess is a lovely ship. I am platinum on Carnival. On my first Princess cruise I felt like I was platinum. Superior cruise line in all respects.

Thanks eor the info. I'll check Princes

  6. Tap Water and coffee

We drank the tap water on the Grand Princess and filled up our water bottles all the time (like from the buffet area dispensers). Anyone that has had both Princess water and Carnival (Dream) water can you chime in. If the water drinkable? I'm not much of a soda drinker and really don't want to pay for water.

How about coffee? Is it ok? I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but my husband is. For the most part he is not a picky coffee drinker, but on Princess, the coffee if awful. It is not drip, it is ??? and really bad, but luckily Princess has the coffee card for $25. Chime in on coffee please, especially on the Dream. Is the free coffee good for your average drinker?

My husband is the coffee drinker and not really picky. He says the coffee on the Lido is awful...but he thinks the coffee in the MDR is great.

  7. Its on 4 ships now and being added to a 5th ship either this week or next. Have not seen any additional roll out info as if yet, but since they are adding another ship, it could roll out to the rest soon.

Which ships have the new menu. Is it being used on the Dream?

  8. We are sailing Celebrity out of San Pedro in 2 weeks. Flying into LAX 3 days early and using SuperShuttle to get to the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro. Have a tour of LA booked with SunSeeker tours. Have read many good reviews for them and they will pick us up at the Crowne Plaza. Will post more after we return.

Have free tickets for Arsenio Hall show one day. Still have to figure out the best way to get to that since we won't have a car. Anyone have suggestions?

    Can't wait!!!!

  9. You will need to rent a car to get to the Observatory. The Los Angeles mass transit system is not very reliable. There is a bus that takes you up to the Observatory but it only runs Saturday and Sunday and you have to get to Hollywood first. Here is the link: http://www.ladottransit.com/other/observatoryshuttle/observatoryshuttle.php

You can get there by taking a bus, subway and then bus again but that will be very time consuming.

Thanks for the info. We may have to skip the observatory. I suppose taxi fare would be very expensive.

  10. We've just booked the Crowne Plaza for 3 nights in May before our cruise. We plan to take a tour of LA one day and will be picked up at the hotel. We would like to visit Griffith Observatory one day. Any suggestions on the best way to get there? We've never been to LA before so any help would be appreciated. Prefer not to rent a car and drive. Love this thread. It has been a huge help.
