When I went on oasis i believe i was 17, the teen club was fun, but to be honest once you made friends most of the time we hung out doing other activities on our own. So your older child who is 18 can still hang out with your 16 year old child and friends she makes, just not in the actual teen lounge and during their exact activities. The only ones i recall being good were the flow rider takeover, much shorter lines that during the day (also went during off time so only around 30 or so kids that went to the teen club) or rock climbing. I was never a fan of the night dances.
I'm not sure if its true about 18-20 needing to leave by 10pm, maybe this is a rule for oasis specifically but i doubt that. Last may sailing Freedom with my bf(21) and my mother when i was still 20 I was aloud in all bars and lounges at night with them. Even when they checked my sea pass they let me in since i'm pretty sure it was just 18, I just couldn't drink. Maybe because i was with my mom?
Thanks for the information, especially since you are in that age group.

I called Royal Caribbean and there are no special organized meet and mingles activities for the 18-20 year old age group. Although this is again disappointing, my granddaughter would like to stay booked on this cruise. I was told by the RC rep that teens 18-20 can go into the regular lounges but are asked to leave by 10 p.m., which is a good thing.

Your teens will have no problem with finding friends and things to do on the ship.
The younger one will probably live in the teen zone called "fuel" dance club like atmosphere with a lot of activities planned, visit it on opening day, it will be the only day you can get in (then restricted to under 18 with club supervision).
Your 18 year old will have coordinated 18-20 meet and mingles for that in between stage, to old for fuel, to young for adult bar scene.
On our Oasis sailing it was at 10pm the first day.
And something else planned every day.
Make sure they go.
Believe me they will find a lot to do if they wish.
Enjoy.
Sea Ya
Sailed with DD on Allure and Oasis when she was 17-19-20. and she had fun.
Oh was prom queen when she was 17:D
Sue, thanks for this information. I was ready to cancel the cruise, but it sounds like there are organized activities for the 18 year old. I really wanted the girls to have shared activities, but it sounds like that won't happen at night except for shows. Since I am the grandma taking the two teens, I want to be sure this is the right kind of travel gift. Any other information about the activities will be appreciated.

How is this cruise (Eastern Caribbean) for teens, 16 and 18? Will they be able to hang out together at night at a lounge for teens? RC says yes, but just checking. It's such a huge ship, how safe is it for girls on their own at night? Thanks! Also, what are your favorite recommended shore excursions for teens this itinerary?

Has anyone taken older teens on the Oasis Caribbean cruise? Did they enjoy it? Thanks, this Grandma wants to be sure and just booked the cruise with them.

You might hear early morning noise from the deck above; one of the disadvantages of AQ. There are more advantages though than disadvantages - bring ear plugs! Blu is very amiable about letting you dine whenever you want. Just let the maitre 'd know ahead of time.

Well we are back. Had the most wonderful time. The ship is beautiful and very well laid out. Except for around the pool during the gorgeous sunny weather we had on sea days.....it never felt crowded a bit.
Our cabin was great. The balcony was huge. And yes I have a couple of pics..... will try to link them in next post. There were lifeboats near our balcony but we did not find them to be in our way...... in fact when standing by the rail you were pretty much OVER the water. Wind did not bother us at all. One day was windy but since the balcony was angled you could move your chair to one side or the other and no wind. Sun situation was the same way. The internet cafe was very close but there is a sliding glass door that seperates the hallway to the cabins from the hallway where the elevators are. Makes for very quiet cabins.
We did not go to any shows or much else except dinner in main dining room, Tuscan Grille once (YUM) and the casino at night. This itinerary is pretty heavy duty but that is what we sail for. Not interested in bingo, trivia games etc. but did want to get to the hot glass show but never did. Bitro on 5 has wonderful crepes including breakfast ones. Cafe el Bocio is where we got our coffee every morning....along with free pastries.
the ports were amazing. We loved our precruise stay in Rome (2nd visit) at the Albergo del Senato. Best location in the whole city ! Santorini was cool, Mykonos was a "take it easy" day. Istanbul we fell in love with as well as Kusadasi. Athens - always wanted to go there but don't have to go back. And Naples too. Half the ship had bad head colds half way thru the cruise - me included so took it easy at the end. Still have cough.
Enjoyed Celebrity. Definately a notch up from Royal Caribbean -- don't get me wrong - I will sail RCI again !
If you have any questions... let me know.
I am trying to find out if the overhang a problem on the angled balcony "hump" cabins? I am concerned that our cabin will be dark and the balcony feel closed in. If that is the case, we might prefer the regular balcony. Thanks, and glad you had a wonderful cruise.

I personally LOVED my C1 hump cabin #1243 - about triple the size of a standard balcony - it was HUGE!!!!! Literally the largest non-suite balcony on the ship! The balcony was great for hosting cocktail parties - we had 25+ people out there one day! Being on the aft part of the hump there was virtually no wind issue to deal with. We got sun when we wanted it, and shade if desired as well. Due to balcony depth there were no privacy issues related to the angled shape.
There are 58 +/- cabins with the same size balcony we had - they are:
Resort Deck: 2105, 2109, 2106, 2110
Penthouse Deck: 1547, 1552, 1601, 1605, 1606, 1610
Sky Deck: 1075, 1044, 1231, 1243, 1247, 1108, 1120, 1124
Panorama Deck: 9155, 9192, 9209, 9215, 9237, 9241, 9266, 9270, 9292, 9296
Vista Deck: 8199, 8162, 8255, 8259, 8281, 8285, 8228, 8232, 8254, 8258
Sunrise Deck: 7159, 7206, 7215, 7219, 7241, 7245, 7260, 7264, 7286, 7290
Continental Deck: 6155, 6156, 6209, 6215, 6237, 6241, 6210, 6214, 6236, 6240
Most of these are on the hump, but some are forward where the ship starts to indent. The rooms run the range from Category 2C, 1A, C1, or AQ (with the exception of 6209/6210 which are categorized as 07 Obstucted Balcony - great balcony at a small price!). There are also many cabins adjacent to the ones I listed that also have oversized balconies that are about double the size of normal ones, but I would go for the triple sized ones first :D
Hope this helps!
Scott
P.S. - I'd also tend to choose the ones that angle to the aft over the ones that angle towards the bow as the forward facing ones could tend to get windy .....
Hi Scott, after reading your report on "hump" cabins, I switched to #1605 (Aqua Spa) cabin, facing forward. This is on the Equinox. You mentioned this cabin in your list. Thanks so much for the tip. elaine

I just booked Equinox for May 2010. At first I booked a Concierge hump. But it was about $400 more so went back to a 1A hump with the deep balcony. We are Elite so dont really see any benefit of having the CC, besides the extended room service breakfast menu.
Are you on the 5/3/2010 sailing from Rome - Eastern Mediterranean?

Thanks so much for the information, I'm booked in cabin #8281 and have head the floor plan on Celebrity is incorrect so anyone who can help me with this would be greatly appreciated.

I think we are booked on 8204, Concierge class, balcony cabin. Is there a good side for viewing entering and leaving ports? How is the view in this area, thanks!

Thanks, very helpful. We are going a little early as FL schools finish up earlier than other parts of the country, so there may not be as many 18 year olds, but hopefully there will be the scheduled meetings for the 18-20 age group. Thanks for the important rule about not going inside anyone's room. I will be sure to tell them that. I'm glad to get all this support from everyone. Does anyone have a favorite shore excursion they want to recommend that they shared with their older teens?
