1. My family just got off Liberty of the Seas on Sunday and took Uber to Hobby airport. While waiting to get off the ship, the app said it was about $34. Once off the ship, it was $47 to Hobby which was about what we had paid to get to the port. Still cheaper for the 4 of us than a car service.

My sister (who was also on our cruise) flew out of IAH. She ended up renting a car from League City (Budget, I think) so she caught an Uber from the port to the rental car facility ($17) and then drove to the airport. She did the same thing coming down. Said it was a little cheaper than the Uber from IAH which was about $90.

Both of us only had to wait 5-10 minutes for the Uber driver to pick us up. They called as soon as they picked up the ride to find our exact location and then picked us up right in front of the terminal. Super easy. :)

Was that price for an uber x? We have a group of 4 but I think we'll need an xl for the luggage.

  2. We contact Guest Services and they will have a gallon of distilled water in our cabin and an extension cord for the CPAP machine. My only question is can I pack the CPAP machine in his suitcase? Or should I carry it on? I don't want his suitcase getting flagged and we have to go get it in person on the ship.

I've had mine in my checked luggage before with no issue.

  3. The current (and possibly incorrect) RCCL website deck plan for Adventure shows Giovanni's on 11 outside Windjammer. It is the only specialty there (Mariner and Navigator have Chops on the port side).

The description of Adventure on the RCCL website also says that Izumi is "new" but it is nowhere to be found on the deck plans :(

So, I'm thinking that maybe they'll put Izumi where Jester's is... Or, maybe they'll add a Chops?? (hoping!)

Ate at Giovanni's on our cruise on Adventure, it was on the starboard side of the windjammer.

  4. Calabza is one of our favs too, and we are doing it again in a couple of weeks!

have you tried downloading the photos onto your own computer and then printing them? They might be larger that way.

    Gregory,

Do you have any thoughts on what was on the menu for dinner on formal night (Antigua, day 5)? Did they do the Jasmine menu with the lobster tail?

We are trying to book Giovannis for the night they serve lamb, veal and shrimp Gyoza, can you recall what night that was served? (it's the Shtake menu night) That's the night we want to avoid and I don't know if it's day 4 or day 6??

    Day 5 was lobster yep!

If I had to, I would put day four as shiitake, but I can't remember 100%

You should be able to change your reservation once you get on the ship. They'll know which day it is for sure.

    Enjoy!

  5. Hello all, we are setup for the Meet & Mingle.

We are trying to decide what night to do Giovanni's, but don't want to miss Steak & Lobster night in the MTD. Can any one shed some light on this, please?

Do Giovanni's the first night! You get a 20% discount if you book ahead. The only bad thing about doing it the first night is you'll be wanting to go back again!

  6. We did early dining, so I can't help you with My Time.

Another option would be to take advantage of the discount for pre-booking Giovanni's Table for Sunday night. We got a 20% discount. It was excellent food and service and you wouldn't have to fight the crowds for a seat at the main dining room right after muster. I'm sure if you told them you wanted to be out by 8 or so to make sail away they would accommodate you.

Can you reserve at Giovanni's for the first night online? Or do you have to wait until you board? I did not know you can get a 20% discount the first night.

On Carnival if you book the steak house for the first night you get a free bottle of wine so we've always done that.

We booked online. They make you prepay when you book. I don't think they offer the same deal if you book a reservation on the ship.

  7. Thanks Doug! Sounds like these small issues are more "never were available" on Royal vs a "drop off" in service. I've never cruised Carnival, but Royal has never had 24/7 pizza or guest laundry facilities. You are lucky you got soft serve till 6- one cruise we were on had a group of 400 teens and the soft serve was gone by 1 pm every afternoon!

We've crusied on Royal, lots, and the lack of late night snacks /desserts is one of our nit picks too, we also found very little open for a late night snack after 9PM on some ships. We'd love to go to the WJ after 10 to get a late dessert (after skipping it in the MDR) but usually there aren't many, or any, options.

One thing I'm wondering about; we chose Adventure because it does have a couple of "extra fee" areas that we are hoping are open after 9. Did you notice if Johnny Rockets was open after 9? Also, I think I read there is a Ben and Jerrys ice cream spot in the promenade. Did you notice of that was open late? That's where we are hoping to satisfy our late dessert cravings, even at an extra cost!

Ben and Jerry's is open until one Am.

Johnny Rocket's is open until midnight. We weren't impressed with Johnny Rocket's. Especially after the cover charge and then the charge for milkshakes.

Cafe Promenade is open 24hrs, is complimentary, and has some good little sandwiches and desserts and decent pizza.

  8. Was it wine or liquor? We are trying to figure out what types of wine are available, we have bought the packages before and found many times the actual available wines didnt match what were listed as part of the package. We know they have stopped doing the wine packages so we are trying to decide what is best for us.

Everything we bought and "surrendered" was liquor. I'm not sure if you bought wine while in port if they would let you keep it.

  9. OK, got them read thru. Here is my first set of questions:

I see every morning they list "8:00 arrival, 8:30 - 9:30 expect the gangway to be busy". Can you give me your input on this?? In most cruise, most ports, you normally get in ahead of schedule. When did you normally get the clearance to start leaving the ship. I think a couple of our tours list to met at 9:00AM. I know they will know if we are running late and will wait for us. Just want to make sure we are finished with breakfast and ready to go. We have never had a wait to leave the ship (other than tender ports) Wanted to make sure this was the same with Adventure???

Did you do a meet and Mingle?? what day and time??

What was your average meal time?? If you did My Time, did you find it was a little quicker?? Don't mind 1 1/2 hour, but 2 hours starts to get really long. Trying to decide on reservation times and be able to get to shows.

    Thanks for your help

We never had an issue with getting off the boat. Ten minute wait tops. We had early morning tours almost every day. We did almost miss our one tour but that was because they had everyone meet in the theater and walk off the boat together. They didn't hang around on the pier long after getting off the boat. So check if you have early morning excursions. They might meet in the theater.

We did a meet and mingle on Monday. I believe it was around 11:30. It was in Jester's dance club. We had a big group and they had drinks and prize drawings.

We had a table for six with only four ever showing up and the early dining. We were never longer than 90 minutes unless we stayed around chatting. We never felt rushed getting to shows. One nice thing about the Adventure being a bit older and smaller is that it really only takes 5-10 minutes to get anywhere on the ship. We cut through the casino to get from dinner to the theater and would usually grab a drink in the Schooner bar on the way. We were always able to get the same seats close to the stage. It really doesn't fill up until ten minutes prior to the show.

  10. Awesome.

Thanks so much for sharing this. I know I will have some questions, but need to read thru everything first. I am also sharing this thread with our roll call group.

We have done the southern route 3 times already, but always on the Serenade. So the Adventure will be new to us. Also have been a couple years for some of the ports, so really looking forward to going back to some of them.

One question I have for you or anyone. Can my time dining be scheduled ahead of time?? Nothing on my reservation yet, didn't know if it was to early (cruise in March) or if not available till onboard. We are traveling with a group of 7 family members (some elderly) so I am trying to get everything scheduled.

Did you do My Time? When did you eat the first night?? After sailaway is to late for us, but worried if they push the dining times back because of muster, that we may not be done in time. Really don't want to miss sailaway. Love leaving in the dark past the forts.

Will check back in after I read thru everything. Thanks again.

We did early dining, so I can't help you with My Time.

If you go right after muster you should have time to eat and make it back. Our muster was over just after six, and sail away isn't until around 8:30.

Was there a "Glow Party" or an "80's" party or anything like that?

Day 5 there was a glow party! They started selling the glow stuff the night before because people were using them for the 60's-70's party.

  11. I know the AOS just went back to San Juan, but anyone out there have any cruise compasses yet to share? :D

    Danielle

I don't know if you've seen these yet, but

I've got all the compasses for our cruise scanned and put into an album on imgur at imgur . com/a/hPbam#0 (just remove the spaces. CC replaces imgur with ***'s )

I also have a post made with the compasses in it here.http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2133439
12. The cruise we are looking at is very port intensive. Only 1 sea day and not much time to relax on the ship. Does Adventure of the Seas have anything like MUTS on Princess? One of our families favorite things to do at night is watch a movie on muts and they bring you a warm blanket and pizza and warm cookies. Im sure my son and daughter would love the rock wall and ice rink. Does adventure have the flowrider? Thanks for all your help.

Adventure did add an outdoor screen and do play movies on it in the evening. We didn't go to any so I'm not sure if they offer any popcorn and blankets and the like.

There isn't a flowrider on the adventure, but it does have a rollerblading course.

We ended up staying on the boat in St Croix because of all the port days. The nice thing is that you have most of the ship to yourself, the only downside is they don't have everything open (like ice skating, most bars, casino, shops, etc) while you're in Port.

If you're looking for the most exciting ship I'd highly recommend the Oasis or Allure.

  13. Just wondering what your overall impression of the ship was. We have only sailed Princess and are thinking of taking this ship out of san juan. Have read quite a few negative reviews that the ship is very dated. Would like your opinion. Thanks

She's a little old. Bits of rust in the balcony and bathroom in my cabin, older style balcony doors, etc. In general though I'd give the ship a good rating. She just came out of drydock and has the flat panel TVs in the rooms, as well as the touchscreen TVs near the elevators that tell you where you are and what's going on. We never had an issue with anything not working, however our dinner table mates had a couple small issues (toilet stopped flushing but fixed itself after a few minutes).

I think it also depends on what you cruise for. My wife and I are in our late twenties and really enjoy all the activities you can find on the Oasis. The Adventure was not boring or dingy or dated, but for us we missed the options.

If you like the itinerary and the price, I think you'll enjoy the ship. What are the primary things you enjoy about cruising?
