Given that I submitted my request over a weekend and I'm getting close to the deadline for applying, I decided to read some other threads about the switch to StockPerks. Based on what I'd read in other Cruise Critic forums, it appeared there is a way to avoid the brokerage account link and manually uploaded docs similar to the old way. It seems that this manually uploaded file approach has been successful for others.

So, I decided to check out the app to assess my comfort level. I did not want to have my late booking and request prevent me from receiving the Shareholder benefit.

While I, too, do not appreciate the use of a third party app and would never agree to use the "connect your brokerage account via a third party" approach, I was able to submit my redacted brokerage account pages (same as I sent to Carnival) manually in lieu of using the additional third party connection service (it's called Plaid). My understanding is that once my Shareholder status is confirmed, the process for requesting the OBC for each cruise is just a few additional clicks. I'll post my results when I get them.

FWIW, allowing the manually uploaded file approach instead of the brokerage connection is likely a nod to those of us who don't trust this new electronic method. Also, I suspect it means on each subsequent cruise, it'll require that I go through the manual upload again since they can't re-verify my stock ownership electronically. But, I'd be fine with that.

That’s great to know- I would not be opposed to uploading my docs- I’ll just cool my heels til my next cruise- see how it goes- 🤷‍♀️

Forgive me up front, but I need to know if others on this trip have been faced with a "new" stockholder benefit credit request process?

I sent in my Stockholder Benefits Discount request, prior to 3 weeks in advance, in the required format that is well documented.   I received an email saying that they were implementing a App by the name StockPerks (which is a cluster mess).  There is no means to block out/redact my personal financial account number from view from the app operators or Carnival Corp.  This is irresponsible in my opinion.

YES!! The exact situation . I was very upset and sent an email back refusing to use that app- they told me they would process it and within a day or two I received an email showing the credit. I also told them if this is the way they are going to be processing shareholders credit- I would no longer be a shareholder- I’m sure that didn’t scare anyone-but I meant it.  Make sure you let them know how you feel about it.

Did everyone get the email about covid testing from Carnival? We are not sure how to read this. It impies that you can take your own at home test the day before, but how do you show them a negative readout? Do you bring the test itself to show them? Unless I am reading this wrong, that seems like the only way.

Take a photo of the results along with your DL in the same photo. Our last cruise we had to do this- and no one ever asked to see it. We were asked if we had a negative COVID test- I said yes they never asked my husband.🤷‍♀️

  4. We used Jolly Good Tours when our ship was in port earlier this month. It’s very difficult to find a tour company that will pick up at the port. There were 6 of us  his and Glyn’s van was very comfortable. He will customize your tour according to what you desire. I highly recommend Jolly Good Tours. Most importantly he got us back to the ship in plenty of time!

This is our holiday video, obviously you don't have to watch the whole thing but there is some footage in there of Chania Harbour, the war cemetery and suda bay. If you look at the picture at 2.33 (this is taken from the hoho bus) as we approached Suda bay. At the bottom in the middle is the war cemetery and you can see the port on the far side which will give you an idea of how far the 2 things are from each other. There is also some video footage looking out across the bay.

Thank you for taking the time to post your fabulous video, loved it. Looks amazing can't wait!!!!!

  6. I have posted this on my MSC Preziosa review thread, but I will post the part on Malta again, for easy search. We were sailing on the MSC Preziosa out of Genoa. Here is the link to the full review on the MSC boards - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2288693

    Approaching Malta.

I wasn't the only person out of deck. Many passengers were up here to watch the beautiful sail in. Good weather today.

The scenery as we sailed in was great! In this picture, I am back on the balcony of my cabin.

    Looking gorgeous in the sunlight.

The ship had to make a turn using her azipods, before moving backwards to get into port. This was to facilitate leaving port later. Azipods in action to turn the ship around. As we sailed in, backwards first, we spotted this 3 mast luxury yacht. Wow.

I made a video of this part of the sail-in and also captured the luxury yacht. Check it out!

Thank you for your posts!! So much great info. I believe we will follow in your footsteps... we go in Oct.

  7. We will be docking in Malta on a Sunday in May from 8am-6pm on Celebrity Reflection. We have chosen this as one of the ports to do on our own without a tour of any sort. I want to make sure I see a lot, but also want to make sure I take my time to see things. Is doing the following in one day too ambitious?:

    Mdina

    Valetta

    Blue Grotto

    Marssaxlokk

I have read many say to start in Mdina then just go to Valetta, but since I will be there on a Sunday, really want to go to the fish market, as it seems that the Blue Grotto is lovely.

Can anyone offer input on this plan, and if it needs to be modified, what would you suggest doing/seeing while we are there? Thank you!

Now that u are back from your cruise. Do u have any tips and did u have plenty of time to do and see what u listed? We are going in Oct.

  8. If you'd like to give a few more details of where/how long/when you are in the area & most importantly what sort of things you like to do, I can give you some ideas to suit you.

Thanks for your help I loved your suggestion and thank U.We will be in port from 7-12 not very long . Wanted to do the beach but don't think we will have time. :(

  9. would line to get some info and tips about self touring Crete. Particularly interested in the Old Venetian Harbor. How far is it from the port - walkable or are taxis plentiful . How far is elafonissi beach from the old Harbor? We will be going in Oct.

    Thank U
