I made an account just to reply to this and thank you! My husband and I are going on my first ever cruise (he has been on plenty with his family) in 11 days! Leaving NYC to Bermuda on the Escape.

This thread has been like a teaser of what’s to come and I’ve been checking every day to catch up ! Thank you for the amazing details. I’m looking forward to experiencing it (and possibly a pistachio martini) for myself.

We are on the same cruise! And I agree the pistachio martini sounds good and I'm not a martini person. But I think I'll try it. Thats the best part of the drink package.

OP,  looks like you are on the GA for 5 nights with 2 full sea days, which could easily run up some of that 100 free minutes.  Most of us on US carriers have free coverage in Mexico & Canada while docked - we had excellent coverage last January, including both your ports - no need to use satellite minutes, to just check-in and contact family members, etc.

Instagram (IG) and FB Messenger, Twitter as well as WhatsApp worked fine using those free WiFi minutes - and these work across different platforms (Android to/from iOS)  Do both of you use any of these - if not, install & setup to practice and get comfortable using them.

As noted, you must remember to log-in and log-out each time, thus an "overhead" of 2 to 3 minutes each time on top, when getting in touch, checking messages or even composing/reading messages offline, etc.

How tech savy is DS, you might want to share this link with him & read it yourself for a better familiarization or "orientation" ... including screenshots of what the sign-in screen, usage meter, and how-to directions, etc.

Thank you for your input! We will def download the whats app. they other couple that we are sailing with are use to using that app. they are purchasing the unlimited plan so I'm sure if I use all of our minutes I can log onto theirs to check in quick. i confirmed today that we get unlimited data and text while in port.

  4. Hi Guys

We have 100 internet as a perk. We usually never use Internet while on a cruise however this cruise is adult only. Whats the best option/way to get in touch with our son? My son and I have iphone if that makes a difference.

thanks for the help and tips

Agree with above.  It’s a very nausea-inducing 45 minute ferry ride each way and then a long bus ride leaving you not much time for xel ha.
Xel ha itself can be overrun with people when multiple cruisers are in port.  I wouldn’t waste my short stop in Cozumel on the logistics.
there is no river in Cozumel but some great snorkeling with under water sculpture right off the beach at Chankanaab.  I would suggest that as an alternative.
If your ship is also stopping in Costa Maya you may have more options for a mainland excursion.

Thank you for your input. We have decided to do Chankanaab instead.

You do realize this is on the mainland and requires a ferry and land transport each way?

Personally I would save mainland activities for land vacations as there is plenty to do on Cozumel and transport to the mainland takes up a lot of time as you have discovered. However, if you are set on river floating I am not aware of anywhere on  Cozumel to do that so the best option is through the cruise line as you have booked.

Thanks for your input. I knew there was a ferry ride involved. I didn’t know there was also a 45-55 min bus ride on top of the ferry ride until I was looking at reviews for the place.

  7. HI Guys

I will be sailing on the NCL Getaway 2/2-2/7 and I just booked Xel-ha for out stop in Cozumel. Is it really almost 2 hours from port to Xel-ha? If so is there anything similar that would be closer? We liked the option of floating down the river and mangroves.

    Thanks for the input
