  1. We are on the NCL Epic in March and after much researching, decided on Ravello, Positano and Herculaneum. Ravello is quite far from Naples so I had contacted four different private tour companies about my intended itinerary. I did realize that it would be a lot of driving, but I really wanted to visit the town and especially the Villa Cimbrone. I found Rosato Private Tours and found the emailing process was easy and Vittorio was willing to take us wherever we wanted to go.

On the day we arrived in Naples, it was pouring rain (BooHoo). Vittorio was there waiting for our family outside the port building. His vehicle was very nice and clean, there were 5 of us. What a nice guy he is, he was our favourite tour guide of our whole cruise. It was very rainy but traffic wasn't too bad. We went Positano first and went all the way down to the beach(Vittorio had umbrellas for us), very pretty but quite a downpour. He then drove us to Ravello and we headed up to the Villa Cimbrone, so rainy but we were the only ones there so it was kind of magical. Ravello is gorgeous - must see if you are willing to go that far. Then we headed to Herculaneum and only had 1 1/4 there but unless you are going to spend the whole day (you easily could) we walked through it all and were incredibly in awe at the condition of the ruins. We raced back to Naples for a slice of Napoli Pizza down by the castle d'ovell - we devoured 3 pizzas - and quickly explored the castle.

We did lots of walking that day as the places we saw were walking access only. Vittorio was always nearby and we wasted no time getting from place to place. He covered our itinerary perfectly and I think he was a delightful and eager young guide that grew up in the area and had many interesting stories to tell. It was very disappointing about the rain but we will always remember Vittorio and his Custom Amalfi Coast Tour. I found him on TripAdvisor, he had a great rating.

  2. We were on a western med cruise in March and the NCL's stop was in Cagliari. In doing lots of research on TripAdvisor we found an amazing little Cat Colony in a place called Su Pallosu (westernmost tip of Sardinia). Since I work in Cat rescue at home, our family decided to go visit while in port. We rented a car (they brought it to the Port for 20euros) and the drive was 90 min each way. Getting out of the city was THE BEST decision ever. We saw beautiful beaches, crystal clear water and lots of sheep. Driving was pretty easy(family of 5)

We prearranged a tour for us for 1pm, not the normal tour time but we didn't want to risk being late for the ship. Andrea and Irina gave us a tour, they have 54 cats and the most beautiful beach - the cats were lovely and healthy and friendly. We happily gave a donation and were delighted by the excursion, it was one of the best things we did on the cruise (and we did a lot). Look them up on TripAdvisor. In the summer it may be more challenging to visit as the island gets very busy. Take highway 10, to see the powder beaches, flamingoes etc.

  3. Just got home from our first Haven experience, family of 5 in a 2 bedroom on the Epic. Unbelievable! Excellent leisure areas, food was the best on the ship, perks galore. Loved it way more than I imagined. Definitely booking wisely will make the price reasonable, compared to adjoining balconies for a family. 3rd - 5th guests were free. I wouldn't bother with the Dining Package again as the Haven Restaurant had a great menu and wasn't too fancy.

  4. We are on the March 16 Epic Med Cruise - I think we are on Sardinia on the 19 - I will let you know how it goes, unless you are with us on the same cruise :) we are planning to drive to a place on the west part of the island.

  5. I did find a company, charges 20euro for drop off and pick up to the port. Also needed a special release form from credit card company and International Driving Permit which was pretty easy to get. Company is called Sardinia Autonoleggio - very easy to deal with. I'll let you know how it goes.

  6. Hi - we are cruising to Sardinia in March and want to arrange a car rental for the day. I can only seem to find two agencies that are anywhere near the port and the cost is 3 X as much as the airport. Does anyone have any experience with this? Seems like the only option is to take a taxi to/from the airport which doesn't seem ideal. Do car companies drop off at the port? If so, there are 5 of us, so having someone come to pick us up may be difficult unless they have a six seater? Do car companies have shuttles in Cagliari? I have googled it to death and still can't find another option other than airport. Any help would be much appreciated.

  7. Hi - we are a family of 5 staying in the Haven on the Epic in March. It is $1100 per adult (cdn$) for the UBP so we aren't going to buy. I have read on CC many times that Haven guests automatically receive UBP but I am guessing that may not be true anymore. If we are in the Haven Lounge, do we pay for soft drinks? or would those be free. Any knowledge/advice would be appreciated - Thanks

btw - the Haven was reasonably priced, which is why we booked. Our 'perks' were not chosen by us - Free 150 min wifi and $50 excursion credit per port.
