  1. In this part of Connecticut we got between two and three feet of snow and since this is light fluffy snow we didn't lose power. We are about an hour (I think) from Ruth C..

We've had a LOT of shoveling, but the beauty of a true New England weather is beyond description. As much as I like being on a cruise, I'd never want to miss a single flake of snow. Shoveling snow surely beats housework!

  2. A few years ago we were on the last cruise ship in Alaska at the end of September. It was wonderful. There were far fewer people at the port shops and everything was on season close out sales.

Any time one goes to Alaska the weather is "iffy". The weather cooperated with us and it was a fantastic cruise in every way.

  3. As far as I'm concerned, the retreat area of the Veendam ruined a beautiful ship. The number of reserved chairs on the promenade deck (for lanai passengers only) severely limited the chairs for the rest of us.

I am sorely disappointed in HAL's decision to do all that to the Veendam. In addition, the piano bar was a lot better before HAL decided to rearrange the deck. Of course, I realize that my opinion amounts to very little, but I'm entitiled to it.

The staff on the Veedam on the Bermuda cruise the last week of April, 2012 was up to HAL's standards and made the cruise pleasant in spite of the disastrous changes in the Veendam.
