  1. Hello,

Our ship is in Juneau from 1 pm to 10 pm on June 26 and I'm trying to find a company that does whale watching and a company that does glaciers via helicopters or glaciers via float planes. Though I would love one excursion that does both things, my research has shown me that isn't possible so I'm now trying to do 2 separate excursions with 2 separate companies.

I would be grateful for any recommendations! Thank you so much

  3. I'm going to Alaska on HAL on June 24 and have tried my best to find an excursion in Juneau that combines walking on a glacier (or flying over a glacier) and whale watching. There are a bunch that say they're glaciers and whale watching but it's going to the Mendenhall glacier visitors center and looking at the glacier but not approaching it by helicopter or seaplane.

So, I've concluded the only way to do both things is to do them as 2 separate excursions, so I'm going to do the helicopter glacier (walking on the glacier) and then a separate whale watching one. It all works out time-wise and I confirmed with HAL's excursions office that it's possible to do. But, does this sound crazy to do 2 separate excursions? It's pricey (!) but I don't see any excusions that interest me in the other ports so at least I'll be saving money there! I thought about finding lower prices for either or both of these HAL excursions by looking at other tour operators but my husband feels if we're doing 2 it's safer to stay with HAL excursions. I don't know if he's right, though.

So am I crazy? Has anyone else done more than 1 excursion in a day? And do you agree with my husband that we should stay with HAL excursions because it's riskier to do other excursions with other companies if we're trying to cram a lot in?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

  4. Hi everyone - we are booked on HAL Eurodam to Alaska on 6/24/17 and can't wait! I am a bit overwhelmed about excursion choices in Juneau and am wondering if there are recommendations you might have. Can you tell me which ones you've done and whether you would recommend it? I think I need to narrow it down to glaciers vs whale watching vs wildlife (eagles, bears, etc.) because I'm not sure there's one excursion that does it all. I think glaciers are the top of my list but it might be that I get my fill of them on the Glacier Bay day and I should do whale watching (or something else) while in Juneau.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!!

  6. Hi everyone - I posted earlier about taking an HAL cruise to Alaska and got wonderfully helpful responses. I'm going to book and wanted to ask any opinions about the following aft cabins: 6177, 6181, 7134, 7136 and 7141.

This may be a silly question, but I'm wondering if the shade is impacted by the shape of the ship's aft? That is to say is the shade different on the 6th deck aft balconies vs the 7th deck aft balconies? I can't tell from pictures if the balconies are all stacked and everyone has the same amount of shade or if they're sloped (I don't think that's the right word) and 6th floor balconies have more (or less) shade. I'm super fair and love shade!

    Thanks again everyone!

  7. I would like to book an Alaskan cruise on Holland America (Eurodam) in June. My husband is worried that the ship won't be right for us because we are younger than the average passenger (or so I'm told). I am 47 and my husband is 43. He asked if the excursions will be at all geared to more younger people who might be a bit more active. I personally don't think it will be a problem but I promised him I'd post about this to see what everyone thinks. Overall, we are pretty quiet people and don't do a lot of "nightlife" stuff - we just want to relax and see beautiful Alaska so I think overall we would be just fine on this cruise. Does anyone have any opinions about this?

Also, has anyone had an aft balcony cabin on the Eurodam? On one hand I think I might get seasick if I'm at the very, very end of the ship but on the other hand the view looks like it would be amazing - and for Alaska it would be even more incredible.

Thank you in advance for your help!!

  8. I'm trying to decide between Celebrity (Solstice) and Princess (Ruby) for an Alaskan cruise. We need to depart from Seattle (and end up back there too) and we have a fairly tight time frame for when we can do this, so there aren't a ton of options (which is better for me b/c I can't make decisions!).

Celebrity is actually less expensive but the ship does not go to Glacier Bay (it goes instead to the Tracy Arm Fjord). The Princess option goes to Glacier Bay. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've heard great things about Celebrity but seeing glaciers is the most important thing to me and I keep hearing that Glacier Bay is better than Tracy Arm Fjord which can get iced in.

Any help would be appreciated because I need to make my decision in the next 24 hours. Thank you!
