  1. Customs in Sydney this week have introduced a new rule whereby any guest who passes through the customs area and boards a cruise ship will not be permitted to leave the vessel again (except in an emergency).

I can't see the new rule working at all as it will affect ships that overnights in Sydney. We were there a few weeks ago on board the Solstice. We boarded the ship at 11 am, had lunch and then get off the ship and walk around the Quay area. We did not get back to the ship until dinner time, had dinner on board and then off again to the Opera House. We returned to the ship and stayed overnight, toured the city on a hop-on hop-off bus the next day and get back on board by 4 pm and the ship sails at 5 pm for Melbourne.

If you are not allow to get on and off, what's the point of an overnight at Sydney?

I would ask questions and check into it further.

  2. On my first cruise, me and my friend were upgraded from an oceanview to an obstructed balcony on the Victory. We walk out and are facing the causeway in Miami, pumped on adenaline (and rum)..one of us said that we should stand on the balcony naked and wave to the city. Which we did..a bit later..we decide to explore the ship..so we find that the next door over we can get to the open front of the ship..we look up and see the crew are smiling and waving at us.

A bit later we wondered why this was considered an obstructed balcony...the bridge was directly above us...complete with downward facing windows..

Your view is obstructed. Their views are not.
