    • Thank you all for replying. I looked into an Alaska cruise but the flight times were crazy. I'm in NE Pa. and the least amount of hours was 14+ hrs and that was getting in at 1am. If I wanted to get in at a decent hour then it's more like 22-24+ hrs.
    • PhotoDennis, I'm so sorry. I was trying to care for my mom who had Alz the same time my dh had cancer. You have to walk in the shoes of someone who takes/took care of someone who had/has Alz. to really understand.
    • You'll have to let me know how your Alaska cruise went for you.
    • cruisemom42, thank you for the tip on the Hal board, I'll be sure to check it out!
    • Thank you all again!

  1. Thank you both for replying. Rob, I give you credit for holding it

together after hearing your wedding song. I highly doubt I would

    be that strong.

NSnJW, that was so nice you were able to go with your son and

grandchildren. You were able to take a step before taking the plunge.

We never had any children. In a matter of 12 months I lost everyone,

my dh, my mom, my sil, and my best friend, so that is why I would be

going solo. I'm just trying to figure out how to know if I'm ready.

  2. This question is for those that lost their partner.

A little back round ( trying to make it short).

When I first met my (later on would be my husband)

I ask him if he would like to go on a cruise together?

He said yes, and I prayed he would love cruising as

much as I did or I'd have to let him go. Lol

Turned out he loved it as much as I did! Long story short,

a few months later he asked me to marry him, and I said yes!

We married and ever since we would cruise every three months.

We loved it so much and were even planning on what cruises we

would go on once we retired.

Fast forward to 2019, my husband passed away. I can't even begin

to explain my grief. I took 2 years off of work, I just couldn't function,

    He was my world.

It's funny how something that I loved so much, is the hardest thing for

me to do now. It's a stab to my heart when someone says they're going

on a cruise. (I don't expect everyone to understand, but I hope someone

does) I asked myself if I was ready to go on a cruise.

I tried picturing myself on board and the tears start falling. I thought

there's no way. We always did warm weather cruises so I thought maybe

I could try and do Alaska or something just to dip my toe in the water, so to

speak. My question to anyone that could relate is how did you know when

you were ready? Is there anything that helped you get to that point? I will

say, I will be going solo so there won't be any shoulder to cry on once I board.

Thank you for reading, and for any replies.

  3. Thanks for replying. It's heartbreaking to see the d10 slowly dying. I love that camera so very much. From what I've been reading, the t4 is the one to get for pictures and the t5 is better rated for the videos. Thanks for your views on it, it is greatly appreciated.

  4. I think my Canon d10 is slowly dying. I know you use to have one as well and you got the d20 if I'm not mistaken but didn't like it as much as the d10. I wanted to ask you if you thought the Olympus t4 was just as good as the d10? I wanted to ask you personally because I know you were a d10 owner as well. I know there's a t5 out now. I'm going to have to check what the differences are between the two. TIA

  5. Thanks Dave for replying. I guess it's the camera then because there were pictures taken consecutively with colored then black and white photos. I first noticed the issue when we were at Half Moon Cay. I didn't think anything of it, I thought it was the way the sun was hitting the screen. On the tender going back to the ship there was some drift wood or something I was photographing. That was an example of photos taken consecutively. I must say though, some of the pictures that did come out black and white are pretty nice. I was on a hike at st. Kitts and I wouldn't have thought to take black and white. Thanks again Dave for replying.

  6. We just came home last night from our cruise. I imported the pics from the one camera, cannon d10, and some pictures came back black & white, yet the picture seconds before or after were colored. I do have this camera for many years. I'm just wondering if it's the camera or the card. I know the best way would be to use another card and take some pictures, but as a souvenir of our trip, I came back with a very nasty cold and just had enough energy to write this post. Anyone ever had such a problem with their camera?

  7. I had something similar, in a way, happen to me. Years ago I was on vacation. I went to take a few consecutive pictures of someone that was with me. All within 60 seconds. One picture came out with someone looking right into my camera. As soon as I took the picture I knew something else was on the photograph. It takes up 90% of my picture.

  8. We always fly out early also. We usually cruise every three months and have had some really goofy things happen to us but never came across a time when a cruise line canceled. I was just wondering what was the least amount of time they'd give you notice. DH wouldn't like it too much but I think we'd go north instead. My DHs idea of vacation is warm weather and beaches.

  9. Why? I am sure some have had it as well as Dengue and Zika (all transmitted in a similar way). But if you find somebody who has had it...then what? And why you are at it, how about influenza, Norovirus, Rhino virus, Streptococcus, headache, etc.

If you have nothing to offer...and you don't, you skip on by to the next post.

  10. We've been to 3 different Modernos and as far as the salad bar goes they were all different. Had different items on all three. They even started the selection of meat differently. Two started with the lower cuts of meat and waited till last to serve the fillet mignon, while this last cruise we came off of Sunday served the fillet mignon first. The pineapple is my favorite as well, though I didn't care for how they sliced it on this cruise, because they served the core. They didn't have the nut salad I was looking forward to on this one at the salad bar. And this one, the meat was on the salty side while the others were perfect.

  11. I always use those clorox cloths that come in a little pouch to wipe down the phone, remote control, light switches and handles in hotel rooms and cruise cabins. I also wipe down anything I might touch around my seat when I get on an airplane.

Since I started this about 10 years ago I have only gotten sick twice on vacations/work trips. Before that it was more than half the time I traveled. I also wash my hands when returning to my room, before meals, etc. You never know what you'll touch when using handrails and elevator buttons. I don't think what I do is overkill - it's just been working for me.

I do the same exact thing and I use the Clorox Wipes also.

  12. Not as easy as you may think to sneak booze. If you are caught you will lose the booze and perhaps the rum runners. Would suggest other ways to economize. Cruise lines are getting pretty good at identifying smuggling - do you really want to risk.

We just came off a b2b. The cruise line didn't deliver dh luggage and he thought for sure they lost it. He ask our room steward if he knew anything. Finally they delivered a letter saying we had to go to a certain area of the ship to open it for security. We went and opened it. What they thought was booze was a spray can of suntan lotion. Dh asked why this happened and they said we thought you had booze.
