She is SUPPLEMENTING your fare with what she paid.  Cabins are sold on a double occupancy basis.  If someone is a no show, their fare is then counted as the single supplement to what you have also paid.  If you friend is fine paying for you, then whatever.  I am sorry she will not be able to travel with you, those kind of things are tough.

When I cruise as a solo, I are required to pay for 2 people in the cabin.

I have sailed solo many times...but are you not understanding that even if I don't go she is not getting money back?  They is no money to be returned regardless.  So it's not supplementing my fare...Carnival is keeping the money no matter what.

I never said the OP "owed" them a thing.  I suggested that it might be a nice gesture to offer the friend some money back as they were now, in effect, paying for someone else's full fare as a single cruiser.  The friend who isn't able to go due to the emergency may not expect to be paid back, but I just think it would be a nice thing to offer something back to them.  Perhaps they won't accept, but it is the offer that counts.

She is not paying for my full fare.  Due to the circumstances this is what we are dealing with.  It's a gamble you take.  We sail in like 3 days. It's past final payment.  We booked easy saver no insurance.  She loses money no matter what.

In the event that your friend cannot go, you'd then be considered a single.  Technically her fare then goes toward you occupying a cabin meant as double occupancy.  Your friend in effect, is paying your single supplement.  if it were me, I would offer the friend some of that money back...as a gesture of your friendship.  Just my opinion.

I get it...hubby and I planned a cruise on the Horizon next month well over a year ago, and now he is unable to travel.  I ended up paying an extra $250 cruise fare and an extra $75 to change our airline tickets so that our son could come on the trip.

Well I was always going, I didn't have control over the unforeseen emergency.  The money is gone regardless of if I go or stay home as well. So I don't agree with your logic.  But thank you for the input.

When my family had someone who couldn't make the cruise, we were advised to just go to the port as usual and declare them a "no-show" once onboard or at boarding.  We were credited the port fees and taxes for the missing cruiser and also his CHEERS package once onboard.  The Internet package can be canceled ahead of time.  Another thought.....even though 10% more expensive, you could always BOTH cancel the CHEERS package and then you could purchase once onboard.  Just a thought?

thank you so much.  I would do that, but since its so close to sailing I don't know how long they'd tie up all that money for. So we will leave it as is.

I can't say about Cheers but I know she can cancel the internet package right now and receive a full refund. Then if she still needs it and is able to cruise, she can always purchase it onboard for a slight increase in cost. Cheers I think you'd both have to cancel for her to get a refund in advance.

Hopefully someone with experience in this can respond to the Cheers question, but as for being a no-show, that's your best bet, as otherwise she will likely not get any kind of refund (other than port fees and taxes) and you may get charged the single supplement.

Thank you.  I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

  6. Hey everyone.  I have a few questions,  I sail next Sunday the 25th on Magic. Unfortunately my roommate may not be able to sail with me due to some unforeseen family emergency.  We are currently taking things day by day. We did not buy insurance and we understand she will lose the entire cruise fare and we are okay with that. The question is about the things we pre-purchased such as her Cheers and Internet.  Would she get a refund for that?   Would it be better to "no show" rather than cancel?  We have never experienced anything like this before.

    Thank you for your help.

  7. My teenager doesn't want to lose her streaks while she is on the cruise next week. I have called Carnival twice today and can't get a straight answer.

I haven't sailed on the Ecstasy, but I was on the Vista 05/06/17 and we were able to access SnapChat via the Social Media Plan. It wasn't the fastest, but it was still pretty good.

  8. Perfect! And well worth it since it's all I want! That would literally be my only drink on the cruise

It was sooo good. And it was a good size drink. From what I remember it was on the last sea day. But ask any poolside bartenders and they should be able to let you know when they'll have it. I hope you love it. I sail the Vista next week I hope to get one too. I don't even care it's not apart of Cheer.

  9. So I decided to do it, for two reasons.

#1 The girl who I spoke with from NCL was adamant that it is not a high pressure sales situation. That NCL was very specific with the Wyndham folks and told them that these are guests on vacation. We had about a 30 minute long conversation, she saw that I sail with them regularly and really don't think she was BSing me.

#2 My wife and I normally hate St. Thomas and don't even get off the ship. This will be a little change of pace for us. If we don't like it we can just go back to the ship.

I also learned that there is a private meet and greet at the 5 O'clock Somewhere bar aboard the ship the day prior to the excursion. They select certain guests based on various demographics, cruise history, location, age, etc. I am in my late 30's living in South Florida just FYI. I will post a review here once we get back.

That's awesome. If we talked to the same girl, Andrea I believe, she was super nice. We also talked for a long time. I'm a solo guest so I think it will be nice for me. I'm also in my 30s. I tried to get us some info from another forum, yea that didn't go so well. Alot of input from people who didn't do the specific excursion. I guess we will be the ones that report back. I think it will be fine. I'm not buying anything bottom line.

  10. How do you figure the $100 OBC will pay for meals at Food Republic? You will have a $100 charge to your account for purchase of the "excursion" offset by the $100 OBC bringing your charge back to zero. Any meals purchased at FR will be on your credit card when you leave the ship.

You do get a "free" excursion, of questionable value at this point. I've never seen a time share presentation which did not take up the better part of a morning or afternoon. They'll have potentially hundreds of people to talk to unless they are doing some sort of group presentation. I also would question the statement that you can't even buy a timeshare if you wanted to. What would be the point of this very expensive offer to cruise ship passengers if they had no ability to make the expense back in the form of a sale or two here and there.

If it's worth a couple hours of your time, or more, go for it. Personally, I'd be heading over to Trunk Bay in St John. I hope those who sign up for this will come back and report on how the experience actually turned out.

The NCL agent that contacted me stated that after the presentation you can either say you want more info or not and then you can meet with the reps once back on the ship and you go from there. Apparently no sales are made on the property. You can do the excursion and not go to the 45 minute thing, but you wont get the $100 back. You only get the money back if you attend the presentation.

  11. lol. I would never consider buying a time share but I figure what have I got to lose with this one? We usually never get off the ship in St. Thomas anyway. Just out of curiosity, what type of cabin are you staying in? I wonder if they're targeting by cabin type or something.

At the time I had a studio. I currently upgraded to a balcony. I'm thinking it's just random. In addition you get lunch and unlimited soda, juice and water, as well as 2 alcoholic beverages. It looks nice to me. I'm excited.

  12.

What can I say about Tyler, Cruise Director and Andre, Asst Cruise Director…… EVERYTHING! This was Tyler’s first cruise as CD on Escape, and was he nervous, hesitant..? NO! This guy was everywhere, doing everything with wardrobe changes! Does he even sleep?? And his side kick, Andre, whom I had to pleasure of dancing with a few times during the first dance party of the cruise. Seeing him with the mullet wig, to dancing on stilts in Nassau! The dynamic duo in full effect!!

Tyler was the CD on our sailing 5/14 and he was amazing.

  13. If you're a beer lover, it doesn't get much better than room 10188! If you can crawl out the door to the stairwell, you pretty much can tumble your way into the District Brew House. :)

Haha! Enough said! Thanks so much for the tip!

  14. I'm trying to figure out bed by balcony or closet for MA mini-suites on deck 15 on Escape. I looked at some YouTube videos and the mini-suites I've seen do have bed by closet (which I actually prefer unlike most people). If a mini-suite sleeps 4, I think it would be more likely to have bed by balcony with the sofa and overhead Pullman bed near closet, but that's just a guess based on my Getaway experience.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks so much for your help. I'm hoping to upgrade or upsell eventually. But it's always fun to research, at least in my opinion it is! =)

  15. Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has anyone info on Stateroom 10188 it's a Category (MC) Mid Ship Mini Suite. I just wanted to see pics or if anyone knows if the bed is by the balcony or if it's the couch.

I tried to do multiple mock bookings for future dates and it doesn't show deck 10 rooms as options. I also called NCL and they stated that almost all the rooms have the couch by the balcony door, and we all know that's not true.

Thanks so much in advance. Any info would be amazing.
