We just were there 2 weeks ago and my original plan was to go to Coral Beach but when we arrived at the port the driver suggested we go to Public Beach instead that it was a nicer beach.  Public Beach is located right next to the old Calico Jack's and shares the same beach and there is no entry fees.  There were several chairs and umbrellas to rent about $15 for 2 chairs and $20 including an umbrella there are nice restroom facilities closer to the parking lot area and there are several local vendors that are selling bbq plates, beer, and rum punch.  Beach and swimming were great, we had a wonderful day there.

Thanks..this is what we are looking for. We have massages booked and lunch plans just 1 mi south of public beach so I think thats what we might do.....massages, lunch then make the 1 mile walk over to Public Beach.

Not sure what you are referring to by “North side of the bay”? Havensight or Yacht Haven Grande perhaps?

Charlotte Amalie is on the North side of the bay, Havensight is on the Southeast side. I was referring to the shopping district in Charlotte Amalie on the North Side of the bay. We've never done ay shopping over there but I thought for some reason there had some decent shopping there, unless I am just wayyy off LOL

We've done Greenhouse before and wasn't our favorite but will keep it in mind; maybe we just had an off day.

  3. W're not sure what to do either. We're there 12-7 and likely will have massages on board in the morning so will probably just hop off for some shopping and lunch. Any specific areas in that shopping district on the North side of the bay worth targeting? Or good lunch suggestions - not a pizza and burger type family?

The highlights island tour will take you there for $40 per person, we were a group of 6 and ended up with a private tour. I'm not sure of anything cheaper. https://stmaartencruiseexcursions.com/excursions/st-maarten-island-tour-parrot-sanctuary/

I didnt see anything about Maho on the tour description...did you just mention to your tour guide you wanted to make a stop there?

We've stopped there on the water a few times before but Ive kind of wanted to stop in at Sunset Grill for a snack and few drinks.

  5. For anyone here who has ever gotten a room at Comfort Suites in Nassau for use of Atlantis, I have a few questions.

Im assuming you get the room the day you are in port with a check out the day after, correct?

Also, obviously the room is not guaranteed to be ready when we arrive in the morning but if we opt to skip breakfast on the ship, can we eat the included breakfast at Comfort? Can we access Atlantis the day we are supposed to check-in to Comfort Suites but before our room is ready?

While at Atlantis as a guest of Comfort Suites, does that include Aquadvanture, the pools, the aquarium, etc or is this just beach access?

    Thanks

  6. There is no question it's loud inside boardwalk balcony cabins at night. Voting that it isn't loud because you're not there to hear it doesn't mean it isn't loud. Voting that it isn't noisy because the noise doesnt bother you doesnt mean it isn't noisy.

The aquatheater has shows that start as late as like 10pm so depending on when you might want to go to sleep the notice may not be an issue for it but make no mistake about it, its loud. Part of the pre-show for Ocean Aria includes purposely getting the crowd to yell pretty much as loud as they can. It's noisy, there're no way around it.

    Cabin 12303..yes, definitely noisy.

  7. i was told that the guarantee is for either central park or boardwalk...

which is why i didn't do it - i didn't want a central park room..

so i didn't book a guaranteed room but instead booked the boardwalk room i wanted for a little bit more..

When I booked my sailing for June 2018 we initially had an ocean view balcony but then they had a sale where there was a guarantee on one or the other (CP or BW). They were priced different and came with different on-board amenities packages. Not only was CP cheaper but the BW amenities package totally did not work for us so it was a no brainer to book CP. Well, room assignments come out and sure enough, we got BW. It took three phone calls and alot of time but finally I got Royal to at least give us the amenities package for a CP room (which included a bottle of red wine in the room upon arrival) rather than the package for a BW room. Get to the room.....no wine and a flier with the details for our BW amenities package. Call to guest services, wait an hour for someone to call me back, I explain the situation, 5 days later they finally call me and say they see they see the mistake and correct it.

Moral of the story....i'll never book a guarantee's room again. I

  8. I know that the ship runs a daily pre-authorization of a certain amount on the credit card to cover for incidentals.

This was not the case on my last sailing (June 2018 on Allure)

Yeah, I definitely would NOT use a debit card. On my last cruise my card only saw a pending charge on the last day before embarkation....I think it was for like $450 or so. The charge never hit but was pended for 3-4 days.

  9. Hey guys, I know that these people work really hard and I was wondering if you have ever given your state room attendant a gift. I was thinking like a small international calling card or an iTunes card. I would obviously still tip the regular amount or more, but I was just curious. Do you know of anything they need that they have a hard time getting? Thanks!

  10. I sail the itinerary, cruise departure port, price and whether or not the ship has a cabin in a location I want, not the specific ship. I mean, if it's a family trip and I'm comparing Vision and Allure on a trip with my 8 year old the ship will play a part but when comparing cruises on similar classes the specific ship doesnt make a difference. Don't know if you're flying or driving but the logistical differences between miami and ft lauderdale could likely play a part as well.

  11. We are thinking of booking either a Boardwalk or Central Park balcony but can't help be concerned with nighttime noise...anyone have any experience they can share?

Boardwalk balconies are loud, without question. BUT, the most noise you will hear isnt from the decks above it's from the shows at the aqua theater (especially the 10pm show). Part of the pre-show routing is to literally lead the crowd in a silly yelling routine. It didnt happen every night but it was more than once and it definitely made going to bed around that time difficult.

I liked the view but I don't be booking a boardwalk room again (cabin 12303). Technically, we didnt book a boardwalk room this time either (we booked a guaranteed Central Park balcony) yet this is what we got at room assignment.

  12. We are on the Allure. Although we have MTD we have been eating dinner at the same table each evening and we are a party of 10. What would be an average additional tip to leave the waiter; assistant? They are both very nice.

My "standard"(7 night cruise with AT LEAST 3 nights in the MDR) is usually $20 to my cabin steward, waiter and asst waiter...my head waiter usually gets $10. From time to time that changes but the service I've received in the MDR has been pretty consistent across the board EXCEPT for our sailing on Liberty right out of dry dock in 2016 when we did my time dining...nobody in the MDR got extra. Service was bad and very inconsistent.
