  1. I have found out recently that when I tried to use my US credit card to make online purchases for an upcoming cruise, that my credit card did not go through. I believe that this is due to the 3D fraud protection system.

I have gone on the funicular many times and have always bought the tickets upon arrival. If the weather is bad, I might not consider going up.

  2. Thank you for the link. There appears to be a shoulder area on the highway that appears walkable and then take Ward Lake road to the lake and the trail that circles the lake. I wonder if there is a possible shortcut by the Alaska Marine building to avoid a major part of the highway.

  3. In September, we will be docking at Ward Cove. We have been to Ketchikan before. SInce we are only there from 6:30AM to 1PM, there is only a short time in town. I am hoping to walk from Ward Cove to Ward Lake and take the trail around the lake. Has anyone from a cruise done it? Is it a bad idea? We are avid walkers and physically it isn't a problem.

  4. We have not booked flights yet, but we are in Alexandria, so IAD or BWI are options. I will wait until next year to book flights. I have always booked flights independently, but now I read that sometimes it is saver to book with the cruise line due to unforeseen problems.

I love to monitor Cruise Critic for future cruises. Hopefully, cruisers from this summer cruises will report back.

  5. We are taking an Alaskan cruise with NCL in late September. When we traveled with Hurtigruten once in early October in Norway, you could set your stateroom intercom to on, and at night the Captain would come on if the Northern Lights were seen from the bridge. I was wondering if there is any type of setup with NCL. I realize that seeing the Northern Lights might not happen, but it was nice to go to sleep and know that you would be alerted if the lights appeared.
